Welcome to Lyoko Freak Wiki!

We are using Mediawiki 1.18.6 as our wiki software. This is the same software that Wikipedia and Wikia uses, just with all of the content stripped out. As part of the Lyoko Freak Upgrade Team, we're going to be filling in this content ourselves.

This page will be here temporarily until the wiki is in such a state that we can officially unveil it to the general public.

What is this?

This is the new Lyoko Freak wiki, a repository for Code Lyoko and the fanbase surrounding it. We're going to provide information about the show to the public, much like the main site did in years past. The advantage of using a wiki, however, is that updating the content can be done by any member of Lyoko Freak, whereas with the old site content updates were done by people with FTP access (essentially, Erynn, Lyoko Computer, nhjm49, and wartonchan). This method allows for content to be vetted if incorrect, it allows for content to be added as we discover it, and so much more.

Why do we suddenly have a wiki?

TheLQ on the forums was wondering this, and it's a great question. With other wikis like Code Lyoko Wikia, why do we want/need a Lyoko Freak Wiki?

  • Existing content - If you haven't romped around the main site in recent times, we have a large amount of legacy content that we might want to archive as well as the entirety of Lyoko Freaker's Fanfiction. While we could remake the main site to bring it all up to date, look at the current update frequency. I'm probably not going to do much better than my predecessors. On the other hand, a wiki can be updated by anyone, and can be edited to include any type of content we want.
  • We have a quality community behind us - The problem with public wikis is that anyone can edit it. The problem with the Code Lyoko Wikia is that the quality is too mixed. Our advantage is that we have some insider knowledge about the show that other fanbases do not have. Creating a new wiki with quality, non-biased information would be easier than, say, raiding the Wikia, finding everything that is subpar, and revamping it to our standards.
  • We can focus a lot on the fanbase as well - What information the other wiki has on the periphery fanbase is extremely lacking, at best. I mean, we don't even have a page there! Meanwhile, we have users coming in from cl.fr, CL Evolved, Tumblr, Reddit, and more, and there's a veritable wealth of user created content that nothing else even begins to cover.
  • We have a reputation behind us - While not so much in recent times, we do have a reputation within the community. If I'm not mistaken, we're one of the oldest CL fanbases on the Internet, which gives us a distinction among the other communities. We can use this name to help deliver quality content to our users.
  • Site traffic - Let's face it, site traffic is picking up but is still lagging a bit. This wiki can help us get a larger corner of the internet to ourselves, maybe even a new glory era for the site.
