I have been told that the song is called "Four Sticks" because that's how Bonahm was playing the drums in it; two sticks in each hand.

Having found the lyrics of the song to be incomprehensible, I can understand and believe that explanation.

I have been further told that, with some of the song, Bonham is actually using three sticks because there is a point on the track where one of the sticks can be heard hitting the floor of the studio after it fell from him. I have not actually heard the fall myself, and I will not be listening for it.
