Adware

Postby Chosen_one » Tue Jul 11, 2006 10:31 pm

I just recently received Adware (as well as one trojan, but I took care of that :laser: ), and I just can't figure out how to get rid of it without buying some sort of software. Can anyone help me?

Try out Ad-Aware. It usually helps me out. I've also used Spybot. Both of those are free.
not gonna bother coming back

I use Norton for all my needs. It works like a charm.

Well, it just gives my pop-up ads at random. I got one while I clicked the link to view this topic.

I tried Ad-aware, but I have no idea how to delete the code; all it tells me is that it exists.

Oy... good luck with that! Ad-Aware is definitely a good program though, so give that a shot.

You might want to try buying a program too, since those can be very effective as well. (You can pick up that kind of stuff at Staples and other places that sell software, BTW. It doesn't necessarily have to be an online purchase.)

Hope you don't have spyware too. That stuff sucks. :(
Don't bother sending me messages or anything, I'm not in charge of the site anymore.

According to Spy Quake, I also have a trojan that apparently rebuilt itself after I destroyed it.

The thing is, I can't afford an anti-virus program.

Who's your internet provider, Chosen_one? Because if you have Comcast, they give you McAfee for free.

I once had a similar problem than yours (malware that rebuilds itself constantly) so I joined a forum where I read I should download HijackThis, do a scan and then post the logfile so experienced people could tell me what to erase exactly to solve my problem. It worked for me, unfortunately I can't remember the name of the website but if you do a Google Search I'm sure you'll find one just as good (there are many, I think).

Oh; awesome!

Hmm, I don't remember exactly how to do it, but you should start by going to Comcast's home page http://www.comcast.net, logging in, and looking around for McAfee. After that it should be pretty easy to download.

And trust me, McAfee is one of the best softwares you can get; in about a week it totally fixed my computer from a ton of ads and problems I was having.

I'll check on it and let you know, too, if you can't find it. ;p

Okay. I'll hand you a little secret for if you have spyware.

Now, when these ads come up, do they just redirect whatever webpage you're on to their ads, or is it in a separate popup window? Tell me which and I may just have a hilarious solution for you! (Yes, I did just say "hilarious".)

I Write Adware. You should try too.

Tip: A cute way to block regedit to to create regedit.com in System32 folder(under XP). XP has execution order from DOS(com-exe) and doing so, you execute regedit.com instead of exe. And people cry 'it blocked my registry!'. So always write regedit.exe instead of regedit. taskkill.exe instead of taskkill!!

By the way - I use no ad-awares, I boot in Safe Mode and erase everything manually. Sometimes I boot from Linux and remove files being constantly in-use by Windows. DESKTOP YOUR ENEMY!

Okay. This will only work if you have spyware. Goto whatever site they're advertising (in mine it had an advertisement search site). I typed "DELETE THIS SPYWARE IMMEDIATELY!" into the search box, then I kept on blackmailing them, saying I had a death virus ready to use. Next morning, it was gone. Apparently they fell for it, because it never came back again.

Sheesh.

Ok, I'm going to recomMend this one program.

I have helped about 3 people swamped with crap, excluding myself.

http://www.prevx1.com

EVERYTIME I HAD A PROBLEM, THIS FIXED IT!!!

I tried spybot s&d
I tried webroot
I tried Spyware Doctor
and I tried Norton

All of the four couldn't remove the malware/adware/spyware/trojans I had, so I turned to prevx1, a program someone recommended.

The initial scan and cleanup during install did the job. When I rebooted, I WAS FREE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
