Free Photo Software

I am looking for free photo software. That I can edit/create images with cool effects. Can anyone give me some links?
Joined in 2005, left 2008, came back July 2011

I believe that the Adobe website offers free trial downloads of both Photoshop and Adobe Illustrator.
You could also look into GIMP or OpenCanvas, perhaps.

Yeah, I would suggest gimp. It's much like Photoshop, except it's free! Yay free!
Being very easy to configure, adding your own brushes and fonts akes it an advantage over photoshop too.
The only problem is that it's very uch on the technical/coded side, and it takes practice. The installation is a bit confuzing at first, but afther that it's all yours.

i second the GIMP vote....but i use linux version so i don't know too much about windows...
