Error Message in GIMP

Postby Astro-Xana » Sat Jan 27, 2007 2:24 pm

I am currently a beginner at this program and there is this certain error message that pops up very often when I do certain functions in GIMP which automatically closes GIMP:

Pango-WARNING (recursed)**. Couldn't load font "MS Sans Serif 8". falling back to "Sans 8." aborting...

So could someone explain to me what this error message means and how I can prevent it from happening?

I'm still a newbie at GIMP, but I never got that before. AngelBolt might be able to help you with that.

Hurm... It looks like you're running the windows version.

Now, I use the linux version, so I don't know if I can help. But I'm guessing that there's somewhere in the folder marked GIMP or .gimp thaere' another called fonts, and there's a file arked sans serif 8 that's giving it problems..
But I'e also heard there's a bug going around about this. I think it was fixed this week... I duno.

I'll check it out for you!

Ok, now when I go to the WINDOWS folder and open up the fonts folder, I notice that I do have the MS Sans Serif 8 font (which has other numbers with it which are 10, 12, 14, 18, and 24). But I notice that, along with some of the other font files, that this font file is red unlike the others which are blue. I viewed the properties of the blue ones and the red ones and the blue ones are TrueType Font files while the red ones are Font files. Therefore, because the MS Sans Serif 8, 10, 12, 14, 18, 24 file is a Font file, is that why I'm having this error message due to the fact that this file has to be a TrueType Font file instead?

Yes, I believe that's it. GIMP can't run anything except a TTF file right now.

But I'm not sure how to convert it. And just adding ttf could cause the data to be corrupted... I dunno.
