Many times, when I download a large file such as a song or a YouTube video, my computer "completes" the download before it's finished, leaving a fraction of the file to use. For example, sometimes when I watch a large file on YouTube, it just stops loading, the loading bar becomes full, and the "Play Again" button appears. Other times, I download a song and it says "Download Complete; 156KB in 1 minute" when in reality the song is 6.5MB.
How do I fix this?

Downloading videos from YouTube can be risky, since you need third-party encoders and/or players to view them offline. Maybe when you're downloading one, your computer considers the YouTube video encoding an "Unknown File Type" and attempts to save it as text or raw data.
Like wartonchan said, try using a browser with a built-in download manager that recognizes proprietary file formats, or Google the YouTube codecs and download them so your computer will recognize them as video files.

If you rename them to something.flv , YouTube files work fine in FLV Player

Does this problem occur only on YouTube (because it happened to me, but it was a random glitch, so it resolved its self when I shut down the computer)?

I wasn't talking about actually saving YouTube videos to my computer; when I stream them they don't finish loading.

Well, you could try refreshing the page. If that doesn't work, leave the page, clear your temp files and then go back in.

Of course. They give you the URL in the embed code. All you have to do is make a link to it on another webpage, right click, and select "Save Target As."
