People who work for the U.S. Gov't are Idiots

Postby adrimarie » Tue May 13, 2008 10:51 pm

After being unemployed (again) for a month back in April, I finally got a job (in fact, it was a job that I always wanted in my life--- a web developer x.x) through a temporary agency. My first day was yesterday and I'm just simply loving my first day (as well as earlier today).

When I got home, I got a phone call from the temp agency telling me that they got a notice from the SSA (Social Security Administration) that they can't verify my eligibility to work in this country according to their electronic records of my ss#. It said that I'm a "resident alien eligible to work for the U.S." instead of me being a U.S. Citizen.

Here's the thing. My family and I came to this country since I was 10-yrs-old. My parents became U.S. citizens when I was 14-15-yrs-old, and as far as I can remember if the parents become citizens and their children are under 18, the children become citizens automatically. I've been working full-time for 7 years under three different companies, 2 years part-time before that under two employers too. I've filled the same documents as I have been, provided all the documentation to prove my citizenship and I didn't have to go through all these crap... until today. I have two U.S. passports--- first one when I was 15 (in 1993 - obviously expired now) and the second one when I was 27 (in 2004--- still current too). Obviously they're legit passports or otherwise I wouldn't be able to obtain a new one if they can't confirm that my old/expired one is legit or not.

Anyway, continuing, I do know for a fact that you have to be a U.S. Citizen in order to have a U.S. passport. I called SSA to contest this "ineligibility" and I even told them that I would fax a copy of my passport (both of them ) to show my citizenship. Then those idiots said to me in the lines of "So what? Just because you have a passport, doesn't mean that you're a citizen." Like WTF...?

Personally, it's either two things regarding those Social Security people--- they're idiots or they're just racists (I'm Asian, Filipino to be exact). Either way, if I lose my job because of those morons, I'm going to sue them.

So yeah... rant of the day.

I am very familiar with the Social Security crap. They tell you one thing, give it to you, take it away, then make you work to get it back, all just to do it again. They "lost" half of my SSI information, idiots agreed.

Earlier today I left work early (but I gotta make it up by going to work on Saturday, which isn't that bad. An hour & 30 min work day LOL) to go to the Social Security office to clarify these things. The lady who took care of my issue was friendly (and she agreed that the people I spoke to are idiots). She clearly explained to me the reason why I got this issue in the first place. She said it happens a lot with everyone and the primary reason is because U.S. Immigration Office don't contact Social Security to update our status whether if we're still resident aliens or citizens and what not.

Yup. There's definitely a lot of idiots working for the government. Those who think that just because a person has a U.S. passport, that doesn't make that person a U.S. Citizen and the U.S. Immigration for not calling Social Security to update these people's status if they become U.S. Citizens. Anyway, problem solved.

Our government is FILLED with morons. I mean...just look at Bush and Scwartzenager(can never spell his name...). Those two are perfect examples... But yeah, if they hadnt cleared it up, I'd be chanting "Sue, Sue, Sue, Sue!"

Schwarzenegger. >.>

Actually Gov. Arnie is doing a lot better as governor right now than he was when he first became governor (stupid recall... >.> most embarrassing moment I've ever seen...). Unlike Bush, Arnie actually learned from his past mistakes. Sadly he is also going through troubles on handling the state revenue because of the slumping economy. No one likes budget cuts, but sometimes there are a lot of other issues that you simply can't control.

My father, who is a finance director of our County School of Education, attends annual state government conferences with Gov. Arnie (yes, he's met him personally... nice person too, dad told me). Despite of the issues and debates regarding the education system and budget here in California, he's an open person.

Anyway, my point here is that people in general (or rather non-California people) shouldn't be judging other state's governors based on what the media presents to the public. The media isn't always correct with their news reports, you know.

By law, when one of your parents becomes a U.S. citizen, you become a U.S. citizen. However, before you can reap the benefits of U.S. citizenship, you need to obtain documents that prove you are a U.S. citizen. A U.S. passport serves as evidence that you have a certificate of citizenship, so as long as you have a U.S. passport, you are a U.S. citizen for all practical purposes. (Of course, U.S. nationals that do not have citizenship can obtain a U.S. passport, but I'm sure that doesn't apply to you. Plus, the passport will specifically say that the bearer is not a citizen, so as long as yours doesn't say that, you're fine.)

The issues about citizenship are quite sketchy. I don't know much about the social security system, but I do know that different countries can recognize different citizenships for the same person. For example, my parents are U.S. citizens, so under U.S. law I, too, am a U.S. citizen, but in other countries I travel with a Chinese passport, and under Chinese law I am a Chinese citizen and not a U.S. citizen. So things like this can get quite complicated.

You do not need to be a U.S. citizen to work in the U.S., but you do need a social security number. If their records of your social security number are messed up, then, in effect, you don't have the right to work in the U.S. You're gonna need to either get a new social security number or sort their records out.

I hope that helped. I'm sorry the government has treated you like this, but you're actually pretty lucky. In other countries, such as Japan, employers sometimes hire illegal immigrants and get them deported right before pay day.
