Discrimination

Ever since I came to America, I faced discrimination.

First, it was because of nations. The kids sitting near me at school never wanted to touch my belongings, saying I had "Chinese germs." Eventually, I got sick of it. I told the teacher, but they kept making fun of me. I said they had "American germs." I got into trouble. They didn't.

That was my old school. Every time I got into a conflict caused by a white kid, I always got in trouble even though I did nothing and the white kids were always off the hook.

Today was something different. Today, we were playing a game in performing arts in which each person would act a certain way and tell the next person to act a different way. They called it the Improv game.

When I went up, the person before me, Steven, told me to say something against China.

What the ****. I can't betray my country. But I had to because I was afraid of getting in trouble for ruining the game.

Later, a guy named Chris said to smack the communists. He pretended to strike me.

And everyone laughed and mocked me.

Country is not something that can be mocked.
Communism is a set of morals and ethics… in many ways it is similar to a religion. Values are not something to joke around with.

Yet, apparently the Americans don't know that. ("Americans" doesn't refer to all Americans… Just the majority.)

I was very, very mad. I wanted to punch and beat up those who had played around with something so serious.
But I couldn't. It was against the rules.

Today at lunch, Steven tried to sit with me. I kicked him out of the table. He still doesn't know what he did.

God, I hate these people. When I grow up, I'm leaving America as soon as possible.

I don't think that's classified as religious discrimination, but rather, idiocy discrimination. I'm a Christian myself, but I've never brought religion into any conversation I've had with someone, and I certainly do not push my beliefs on anyone. It's rather silly, in my opinion. Nonetheless, I agree; I've been told I'm going to hell once, along with my friend. It's not really so much of a "Oh no you didn't!", but rather, "Hey, can you tie this noose around my neck? Aaalright, thanks." Very annoying, but the least of your worries.

Chosen one, I'm not really sure what advice to give you. You can talk to the principal, and I'm pretty sure they'll fix things right up rather than the teachers. I wouldn't make retorts and lash back at the other students, but don't give them reason to make fun of you (don't go along with their jokes), yet also avoid making it look like you don't care. You have to strike a balance, I'd say.

If all else fails, a parent-principal meeting will probably set things straight.

Yeah, I suffer from Creed discrimination as well (I'm communist).

I'm planning to move to Japan. I already do live in a northern state… my school is about the friendliest in the country.
My dad says that in Japan, the people are really nice. I've already lived in Japan, so I think I can get used to it quite easily.

It's a shame when the discrimination gets so bad that it has to make someone move, whether it's racial, religious, or something else entirely. Unfortunately, moving isn't always an alternative although in this case, if you believe it's right, go ahead. At least up until the point where you're grown, I say talk to the people around you. Go with the parent-teacher conference, and see if that helps. If it doesn't, then be more direct with those who are causing it. Tell them how you feel and if they don't get it the first time, then keep trying. Beat them over the head with it if you have to. Just get them to understand that they're hurting you.

Exactly CB.....and Reesane, that was sorta racial in itself...Most of us are nice, hard working people, yet you judge us as if we are freaks of nature. Im definitely not a xenophobe.

Oh, they understand all right. They don't know why. They don't care why. Steven just goes "What did I do?," playing dumb… When I walked out, one of the guys was like "Are you mad?" His name is Brandon; he always prances around and acts like a homosexual and makes sexual jokes with the teachers.

The teacher can't control them. I might have to talk with the principal about it if it keeps happening.

Also, I wanted to move away originally because I felt like I didn't belong in America (it was just too foreign for me) and I wanted to go to a place where I can feel more at home. But now, I have a much better, more important, more legitimate reason for leaving.

Yes, I have been down south actualy..... Someone chopped the Darwin Fish off of my rear bumper (leaving a sizable hole in it) and smashed my front window when I stayed at a hotel in texis on a road trip......

If the Darwin Fish was still there, and my car wasn't the only one that had been vandilised.....

I ment no personal offence to anyone from the southern united states. My experencese down there have been less than plesent, so please forgive me.

Actually mocking of the south makes her a regionalist. To be honest I tend to dislike everyone from any part of the the western hemisphere thats not from the tri-state or canada... Until they prove they're not the sterotype.

Racism burns me up inside. You know just because I am catholic people automaticlly think I am agianst most things. My religon is what I am somtimes made fun of for.... People now a days are so harsh and close-minded they are so wrapped up in their lives that they have lost sight of the important things. Sometimes it makes me want to become an assasin. Others I just want to escape to ireland or somewhere. But since I don't have the money I retreat to my world of escapism...And it really helps
I love to write and create things... My advice to you is find something you love doing and use it to help you pull through....I am sorry they treated you like that. I have alot of bad memories from elementray school where people teased me and called me a rabid bucktooth varmit...I know how much it hurts and I want you to know that I am here for you as are we all we won't judge you.. I won't judge you. We all want to help you. Just let us know if you need to talk and feel free to pm us.

It sickening how people can be racist, there is no justifyed reason in the world for being a racist. I sorry your school is like that, it shows that there is a lack of maturity and respect in the world.

Although the problem just won't magically go away, just keep you head up high saying just one less day to get through will make it easier. Or ask you parents if you can leave the school at the end of the year.

Yeah, that really helps. When this happened, the first thing I did when I got home was to play "The Internationale," a patriotic song in China, over and over on the keyboard. Then I felt better after swimming practice. Thanks.

Yeah, I find that helpful as well. Every day I tell myself that if I get a good education and make it through school, I'll be able to leave America.

Or ask you parents if you can leave the school at the end of the year.

I'm in 8th grade right now, and next year I will be going to high school, where there are a lot more immigrant kids. Although, I don't think I'll be moving to another school district; I attend one of the best schools in the country, and my parents sacrificed a lot and risked bankruptcy to move to this district. Funny, how the best schools are sometimes the most corrupted (e.g. Central High School in Little Rock, Arkansas; it's not corrupt anymore, but yeah).

unfortunatly its a common, though incorrect fact that catholics are viewed as such, especially in the north east because yeah thats where most of America's catholics preside. In fact, catholics are a minority in this county. It is infact, the Protestants that are the dominant ones in America. Which is why since the existance of the country we've only ever had one catholic president (the rest where all protestant).

To paraphrase the Benfolds song, "Y'all don't know what it's like being male middle class and white". I mean hell I've spent the better part of my time here on LF ranting fervishly about my discrimination that I can get a shot because I'm nice guy. Yeah it's wonderful, I get freaking annoyed sometimes. If I was black or gay or whatever I'd be able to have a support group or something. But no, there ain't no place or friends to turn to for the emo white boy just trying to catch a break. Im pretty much just told to get over it.
