I never said that I hated Paige or anyone else who has a problem with this rule.
And I never said that I wanted her to shut up and stop voicing her opinion.
This is just a rule that I think is NEEDED. For reasons I have stated before. And that Erynn has stated as well.
EDIT: this is the last I'll say on this subject unless someone directly questions something I have posted.

I have to pick out this bit and agree on it wholeheartedly. The whole reason I joined here in the first place was to escape the neverending immaturity that was the CL.com and TV.com boards. Id hate to see LF happen upon the same fate.

I was just waiting for you to say something, Rodri. Well, if you want me to leave, I will. I don't want to, but I am just saying what has been bothering me. Why don't you make a thread or another forum thing that says, "Have mature and intelligent conversations here."?

One more time. Some people can't help typing like they do! They don't know how to use correct grammar/use of language.

I am just voicing my opinion here, and you people are telling me to leave? That's not right! If someone else started ranting about the rules, I wouldn't tell them to leave. If they have a good argument, I would prove them wrong. I wouldn't tell them to leave. And I will not just leave here because a COUPLE of people told me to. If I have to, I will. But I am not going to just because a handful of people want me to. And I also think I am staying perfectly reasonable about this.

Jeez - we're NOT telling you to leave - we're saying that if you don't like it here you can leave - me I want you to stay, but I'm just on the opposite end to the spectrum to you on this subject.

I think my second option was wrong. I should have written: become a Code Lyoko fan. As for your request, I can only say whatever you post (in the way is written) is your own responsibility. Same can be apllied to everybody. They can go find spell checkers and use some source to correct their grammar, but whatever you post is your own responsibility.

Before you learn to type, you learn to read. One should read the rules before or after joining a forum. Example: If you don't type properly, you could probably lead someone into a wrong link to access something on the Internet.

Exactly. And Paige, we don't want you to go away-- I actually support this rule, though. Why should we have to be forced to attempt to sift through someone's sludge just because they were too lazy to actually try? I bet people don't turn in papers for English class that go like this:

lyke omggg i luv code lyoko! dats ma fav sho in da hole worl. i think orrick is so cute!!! i x-pec ppl 2 b abowl 2 read diz. cuz i aint typin it no mo gain.

Honestly. People DO have the ability to write like their heads aren't full of pudding!

Like TB3 said, I don't want you to leave either, but I don't agree that we should let our forum turn into a wasteland of lazy incompetants who make post after post of pointless banter written in atrociously typed chat-speak, and no one's around to stop it anymore because they've all essentially just given up. If you want to talk like that, do it on AIM.

I don't even do it on AIM! I never said that I oppose this rule. I just hate it when people get discriminated against just because they can't do something! It's not right! I actually couldn't care less if people don't spell right. It doesn't bother me at all.

Why do you people feel so strongly about it?

If you don't care about people spelling incorrectly, that's your opinion. But some of us support decent posts and intelligent conversations, and we can claim for rules to be respected. Some typos and a bit of mispelling can be tolerated, but not on a constant dose that can even irritate people or make others leave thinking that this forum includes silly inmature members. Plus, constant mispelling can lead to a chaos at a forum. We warn people who post incorrectly and tell them to change for better. Some did an effort, some didn't. And also behaviour counts at LF. At LyokoFreak, we want people to have a better impression on a online comunity and to enjoy Code Lyoko debating. Simply that. We wouldn't like anyone to feel disturbed here by negligence of other people.

Sidenote to Paige: Just in case you want this thread locked by any moment, just say it and a Moderator will lock it.

I wasn't referring to you, specifically. And I'm sorry if I misunderstood, I just kinda skimmed through it and that's what I picked up.

Well, like it's been said, rules are made to be enforced, and I think Erynn deserves to have her forum that she's worked so hard on be kept clean. I'm not saying that the ones who do that are bad people, I'm just saying that they probably don't even think about what they're saying and let alone try enough to write legibly.

I feel strongly about it because I've had one of those headaches brought on by attempting to read someone's post like that-- It's like, you really want to hear what they have to say, but because they didn't put in even a minimal amount of effort or just plain don't care, you can't. And it bothers me when people misspell things and use poor grammar especially when they have the opportunity to do better. I don't think that that type of speech should be on a forum, anyway-- forums are for discussion, and there's a reason why it isn't a bunch of linked-together chatrooms. You're supposed to put THOUGHT into what you post.

Who says we're discriminating? Every human being with the ability to even use a computer and type a post has the ability to at least attempt to make it easy for others to read. If they don't like having to do that because they're lazy or don't give a crap about anything they do, then they're not the type of person we want here.

I’m personally torn by this topic. I feel that the spelling and grammar rule is a little strict if you are getting on someone’s case who try’s to follow the rule, but for people who are on this site and type spam because they don’t want to take the time to type correctly do not deserver to be on this site.

Ok this is going to sound rather stupid but, I used to think that it was a persons name that made them looked up to on a sight. I was terrible mistaken, it is a persons posts that show us what kind of person he or she is.

I think that as long as the poster is trying to follow the rule they should not be panelized. But if they just type junk and don’t type readable posts then they should be band. That’s my take.

Paige, the rules are the rules. This is Erynn's forum and she the only one she really has to please with it, is herself. That is the truth and will remain the truth. If you don't like the rules, then I really can't suggest anything other than that you look into finding another forum. Don't get me wrong, I don't want you to leave, but the rules will not be changed, especially if only a handful of people find a problem with them.

Also, I would like to add that we've never asked for "collegiate level, and inexplicably perfect" grammar and spelling. All we ask is that you don't use chat speak, use correct punctuation and capitalization, and that you try not to put all your text into one huge paragraph. Is that really so hard to do?

And, I will have you know, that I have always, and will always, use the very best grammar and spelling that I can manage.

The BB of C wrote:I can see if you would want to enforce that if there were only about 50-100 members here. But this place has 508 members. How do you expect to force them all to type perfectly? Its simply immoral to try to make someone do something too.

If you ask me, it should only ever be the other way around. The rules should be enforced as a site grows, otherwise everything just dissolves into illegible chaos.

And just what's so "immoral" about using correct spelling and grammar? You need good writing skills in the real world, and we're asking the same here. It's as simple as that.

Honestly, BB of C, if you and Hidushikai are so confident and knowing as to how a forum should be run, why don't you both just go and create your own and see if anyone joins. No one will stop you there.

On a more happier note, thank you very much TB3 for sticking up for me. ^_^

BINGO! :thumbs up: I knew there were smart people here. Mewberries and everyone who's been saying the same things she just did are completely right. Plus, a tip for the wise. Never argue with a mod. I once did on CL.com with either Noir or SGT Tachi. P.S. it still hurts.

I did not want this to get out of hand!!!

I asked this to be locked already. I put my point across, and at this point I'm starting to get really annoyed. I don't want to say anything that I would regret, so as of now, [unless someone is really stupid and decides to challenge me] I am going to stop posting on this because I will hurt some people on here. You are all claiming that you use perfect grammar and such but I see plenty of mistakes, and I can start pointing them out, but I won't because that would be stooping down to a low level that I don't want to be at.

For the love of *bleep* - all we're asking for is capitalization, punctuation, relatively good spelling and the ability to split text into paragraphs - we're not asking for perfection, nor are we insisting that we are perfect!

Yeah. I've heard the complaints. But you know what? LF isn't a country. It's a forum. A small forum, even. And you know what else? If you don't like how things are done here, you can leave. There are lots of other great CL forums out there which you can go to and do whatever you please.

Furthermore, I'm not asking that people use perfect grammar and spelling, I'm asking that they be a bit more careful with those things when posting. I realize not everyone is very comfortable with their keyboards yet, or they are but they learned to use incorrect grammar with it. But I don't see why it's such a problem for those people to just put forth a little more effort and follow the rule.

And, yes, okay-- LF is quite a bit larger than it was when it first started out. I didn't anticipate that, ever. When I started this site, I was barely 13 and still learning the ropes. BUT, a) 500+ members is only _larger_ than I thought it would ever be... in NO WAY is it a big deal. Search Google for some other forums and see what I mean. And, b) the number of members here has absolutely no effect whatsoever over what kinds of rules should and shouldn't be enforced.

And don't get me wrong, Paige... You're cool and I have *no* problem with you. I'll be sad to see you go, should you choose to. But if you really can't deal with the fact that I prefer that the people choosing to participate in this website not type like they're still in first grade English, well... I'm not going to change things just for your liking.

It's a free Internet. You can do what you want to. I can do what I want to. Let's leave it at that and get on with our lives.

And as for Hidushikai-- your comments were completely unnecessary. I don't mind you disagreeing with the rules, but insulting another person (Mew) was completely uncalled for.
Don't bother sending me messages or anything, I'm not in charge of the site anymore.

But I do love dancing.

An excellent post, Mewberries151. Much better than my unelegant "Her house, her party, her rules." :D

I'm not going to pile on, but I am going to say that I haven't seen any hard enforcement of the rules; only tactful reminders. A forum like this isn't real time, so there shouldn't be a reason that everyone can't re-read what they wrote and fix it. Proper spelling and grammer should be what everyone here aspires to regardless of what you are capable of. If you're in too much of a hurry to look over your writing, perhaps you should post at a more convienent time.

Since you're referring to the 1st Amendment, you are wrong. It states that Congress cannot pass a law abridging your freedom of speech. Use of the internet is a privilege you, or your parents pay for, and have rules to be agreed upon or risk termination of your service. Use of an online site that someone else, in this case Erynn, maintains and pays for means you follow the guidelines set up by said person. That's why you had to sign up and logon to use it. It's also why you had to agree to the rules when signing up.

Might want to review your facts a little bit.

Do you know why it is that we can't run up and down the halls cussing in school? Why it is that we'll be punished if we are? And why the First Amendment grants us the right to free speech at the same time?

The same reason why I can say, "type correctly."

I can make whatever rules I want within my establishment as long as they aren't causing anyone harm.

Edit: You beat me, TaskForceLyoko. :P Thanks for explaining it more thoroughly.

Yup - LF is very democratic but every nation has a head of state - in this case it's Erynn.

And Paige, you're fighting a loosing battle - if it's just pride driving you at this point stop now and save your dignity.

Thanks, Task Force Lyoko, for the support and compliments!

...Although I do realize I made one grammatical error in particular in my last post, which I apologize for, but as I said, I try to post with the best grammar and spelling I can manage, which is all that LF asks, to be sure. :)

And thank you so much Erynn for sorting this all out! :D

Paige, you also have the right to leave an establishment that you feel is treating you "unfairly". LF has no power to stop you from doing that. I don't quite understand why you've become so hostile all of a sudden, as you've always been so cool and level-headed before, particularly when it comes to the rules here at LF. I'd be sorry to see you leave, but if this place is making you unhappy and you can't stand it, then by all means, you should go for your own sake.

Well, that was a big waste of time for me to read (took me about ten minutes I think). I can sum the whole thing up in two words: just leave.

Now its time for the less harsh version. As said (many) times over, if you don't like it, don't come to it. When you clicked the little box that said you agree to abide by all the rules, that was your decision. And it still is your decision. There are many decisions you can make; like actually follow the simplest rule of all time. Ever hear of proof reading, or going on microsoft word and copy/paste onto the reply page? Im most certain that it would help a great deal (in fact Im doing it right now, and it took me no more than five seconds to bring up my word processing program).

For the most part, it’s a matter of laziness. I can tell you that it takes a lot more effort to complain about something than it does to just go along with it (wow...I should think of that more often for myself...ok, homework is now an exception). But anyway...do you know how many CL fan sites there are out there? Too many to count...even google would have its hands full. So if for some reason you think we’re too strict when it comes to making a few lazy people actually watch what they type, then you have got some issues. I there are people with legit ament problems (dyslexia and so on), but they can always tell Erynn or the mods ahead of time to avoid confusion. Well, I put in my 2 bucks.
