Babysitting. Sucks.

Postby Dreamscape » Wed Nov 23, 2005 6:55 pm

I posted something like this at my LJ last night, but I'm going to post it here too.

I have come to the conclusion that the very best kids to babysit are girls between the ages of four and six. Why? Because boys are awful little creatures and I truly believe that the ones I have babysat have only one mission: to make my life a living hell. Moreso, anyway.

Any kids under three do not stop crying. Ever.

And while I know for a fact that there is such a thing as a tolerable pre-teen, I have never babysat for one.

Like the girl last night.

Her parents left us with a movie for her to watch. The Little Mermaid. Yes, I agree, aside from people who love Disney movies no matter their age, it's probably a little young for her. But her parents are overprotective, so she can't see anything rated PG13+.

She didn't want to watch the movie. No, she wanted to watch The N. And anything less than that wouldn't work.

I hate The N.

HATE.

But she wouldn't let me change the channel. Even though she was significantly weaker than I, she has this amazing ability to find a way claw at you and hit you and kick you no matter how you restrain her.

I couldn't take the abuse anymore so I let her have her way. Ow.

Then her parents came home early and they got mad at me. Well, they didn't yell or anything, they were just like, "You shouldn't make her watch your TV shows because they aren't appropriate for her."

My TV shows?

Of course, the girl didn't cover for me at all. That little bratty liar.

The good news is that I got 20 bucks.

I did some babysitting once. The next door neighbours left me in charge of two girls (aged 7 and 5) and a 13 year old boy. It was very easy, once the girls were in bed and sleeping, all I did was watch Rocky 3 with the other kid. And I got £15 (around 25 US dollars). Everything has its and good and bads. You just had a bad night.

I never really babysit for money. Usually I do it for like a studying thing. Like I babysit kids that ride home with me on the bus and get off at my stop. I met go home with them and like make sure they get home okay, or I will have them come to my house for a couple hours and bring them home whenever their parents get home for work. But I never ask for money. it's a good way for me to learn how to babysit and such. I'm very good at it I must say. Kids adore me. One time though, me and my sisters babysat two little ones for a weekend and they were complete angels for us. We never had to do anything. And me and my sisters each got paid $100. If I ever get gigs like that again, I would love babysitting to death. But I don't mind it at all. I find it a fun experience and it's comforting to have little kids around.

That's just kinda scary, Paige... but $100 for stalking kids?? :umm: *is confused*

Back on topic, I wouldn't do babysitting, and not many people would like to have some random person babysitting their children at Peru. They would most likely use their maids for it.

Nah, It's not scary. I don't STALK them. Gosh. I just love little kids. They are SO fun. And I ride a bus that goes to the elementary school, high school, and 2 middle schools, all on the same bus. So it's not like I'm their age. Most of them are in about 1st, 2nd, or 3rd grade. Some are in 4th. But they all like love me alot and sometimes I can't leave them because they get sad, so I have to hang around until they fall asleep or I have to promise them I'll play with them the next day. And their parents love me because I never ask for money. I just do it for fun. :)

I wasn't being sarcastic, and I was thanking you for clearing some doubts about what you said before.

Never babysat. Never was babysat as a child. That's an advantage of being the last of seven children by six years.

I must say, being babysat was REALLY fun! My parents hired this babysitter for us when we were like just tiny babies and I still keep in touch with her. She always comes with me to like Disney and Universal and theme parks like those. Instead of my parents. SHe's waaaaay fun and I'm really glad that I can count on her to do things with me. Although she never babysits me anymore really like to take care of me at my house but she's sooo awesome to hang out with and she's about 28 now and she's sooo great. She began babysitting us when she was like 16. Yep, she's stuck around that long.

True enough. My ideas of babysitting would probably compare badly with those of Annie Wilkes from Misery...

Dude, they so ripped you off if all you got was 20. And you should have fought for your case! Maybe you could have shifted the blame to where it belongs...

It would be the inverse way in other countries, believe me.

Heh.. I have to babysit my little sister (wait a minute.. it's 2 AM.. so that means it's tomorrow and it's her birthday! she's 3! lol) alll the time. I never get paid for it since it's the "natural role" of the Big Brother to watch over and protect. I neglect to bring up that she's adopted so technically I'm not "naturally" her big brother... I do love her though, although she gets on my nerves sometimes.

You think Babbysiting is horific?

NEVER... EVER.... Volenter for boyscout day camp... 6 hours of screeming kids, scrubing paint of the floor... and... the arts-and-crafts place was the only dry space in the camp, so when it poured for half an hour... :arg:
Mood today: O_o

Or staying after school and the power goes out in the middle of a snow storm and the teachers leave you in charge while they go out for supplies.
Now THAT is trouble.

So... much... Toilet paper...
