Postby Boss Tamsy » Sun Aug 19, 2007 11:27 pm

Okay! I've always put up with my parent's strict rules with videogames,(like only being allowed 1 hour a day) and even stood aside when he kicked my SNES and took my DS away from me(just for getting smart with him), but now I think he's going over the edge with it. Earlier today, somehow my brother got him angry at him, and he took his(my bro's)gamecube and threw it into the wall so hard it put a clear hole in the drywall and put a hole in the gamecube. I want to get a Wii, but I just feel it a really bad idea to bring a $250+ piece of hardware in the prescence of someone who just destroyed a gamecube. Any suggestions?
EPIC FAIL!!

That's really scary that your dad has anger issues like that.
I agree, don't get a Wii right now, it'll probably end up like your other consoles and handhelds :(

Yeah, what she said. Ask your dad what he has against games, if you feel that is a safe thing to do. Mabe you can work something out.

I don't think his problem is with video games. Just seems like he has trouble managing anger, and pitched the nearest thing, which happened to the Gamecube. Unless the game was the reason he became mad, though Tamsy didn't specify.

If it's coming out of your pocket, you might buy the Wii but keep it away from your brother. If you can play your dad and not give him a reason to get mad, even if does happen to wrong, it won't break. Warranties might help anyways, not sure though. If he purchased it, he might not be so willing to throw it, or at the very least, would take some measures to repair it so it's not $250 wasted on a temper tantrum.

Maybe you could lock the wii in a box and carry the keys where ever you go.

O.o...sounds like someone has anger issues, not issues with videogames...he might need conceling or something.
He should take his anger out on a pillow, not on a poor defenceless, EXPENCIVE video game...maybe try to remind him how much money he's throwing away by destroying these things.

To Ladylucy:Nice try. I think he does have something agains videogames(unhealthy, waste of time, rots mind)
To Lyokoman95:My brother and friend suggested that.
To several posters here: Yup. He has an extremely short fuse.

My plan(once I have the Wii) is to keep it(and my DS) at my friend's house(wich my pal has consented to) so he can't get to it.

My parents are rather strict people, and video games is one of their MAJOR buttons!!

Ok, Video Games are today's bicycle. The bike was thought to unnaturaly speed up peoples lives and pull apart families. Games are a relatively new media. Given time, the positive side (improving problem solving skills, driving and hand-eye coordination) will come out more.

Voted "attack your father". Don't really, but you should confront him at least.

Confronting your dad is a BAD idea...because instead of taking the anger out on the machines, he could very well start taking it out on YOU..and that is not something that needs to happen.

In that case, find counseling or anger management classes for him to go to.

Your dad sounds a lot like my parents used to be. In fact, (I kid you not) the GameCube incident happened at my house as well, exactly the way you described it. I bet his problem is that he is uncomfortable with modern technology and insecure that his kids know more than he does and thus takes it out on the product related to this, the product he could not understand... what he really deserves is for you to destroy something that is of equal value to him as your consoles are for you, but what I would suggest is for you to move out of the house as soon as you think you can. And by the way, the "one hour a day" thing made me really angry just from reading about it. I sympathize with you.

I think he is against them because he has a grudge that formed when he was a kid from them.

My mom never did wreck my Video Games, but she once threw my CD player so hard against the wall it shattered into 4 pieces. Then she laughed at me and my pain. ;__; About 30 minutes later she's like, "Omigosh Baby, I'm sorry!" about 18 times that day. I got a new CD player. :D

He shouldn't belittle the Gamecube for his Atari-related issues. :arg:

But seriously, Atari 2600 PWND. I used to play it as much as my playstation.

Kamekai may be right, he must have formed a grudge due to a past childhood experience, and now he is taking it out because he can.

Well, my bro just bought a new PS2 last night, and I'm looking at a Wii this saturday(if I can get out of the house). My dad started with him for trying to hook it up while the rest of us were putting groceries away, but my mom(surprisingly) took him to their room and had some sort of talk-down(can't specify). But who knows how long that'll last.
