What graphic program do you use?

Postby LadyChaos » Thu Feb 23, 2006 9:26 pm

I decided to change this, although I can't figure out how to get rid of the poll. :umm:
Anyway...

All I want to know is:
A) What program do you use to make graphics?
B) What can it do?
C) What do you use it for?
D) Is it easy to use?
And E) Is it free to download?

That's it. And if a moderator or Erynn or someone can tell me how to get rid of the poll, that'd be great. :D

Thanks!

Done!

I don't know if regular users are able to delete their own polls. I will look into that.

A) I use Photoshop 7.0.
B) Photoshop is a professional standard, especially in the feild of graphic design. That should give you some idea...
C) All the avatars/graphics on this site (minus the forum layout; I didn't make that) were made by me with that program. More examples of stuff I did with that program can be found on my personal site.
D) I'm going to be completely honest here-- if you're not very experienced with advanced graphics programs, Photoshop will not be easy for you, nor will you be able to make really gorgeous pictures with it on your first try.
E) Nope. Unfortunately, Photoshop is fairly pricey, unless you're willing to either settle for an earlier version, or do the dishonest thing and try to find someone who can get you a bootlegged copy for free. :/
Don't bother sending me messages or anything, I'm not in charge of the site anymore.

But I do love dancing.

I'm no good at finding good software, so I still use MS Paint. But I do also use ArtCursors, which is great for making animations.

I sometimes use Photosop Elements 3.0.But I mostly use MS Paint and MS's version of photoshop, MS PictureIt! Photo 2002, because it's user friendly.

"That's odd..." said Mrs. Della Robbia.
The doctor wrote down on the name space on the birth certificate
"Odd Della Robbia".

And that's how he got his name!

Well... I kinda use two programs, depending on my mood xD;

1. a. Paintshop Pro 8 (although I kinda want Photoshop :x)
b. Open Canvas 8D

2. a. Um... lots of stuff. xD; I don't experiment with it a lot...
b. Paint pretty pictures!

3. a. Make icons, sigs, stamps for rating comms, lil photo editing etc.
b. Paint pretty pictures!

4. a. Uh, well, since I only use the extreme basics, sure, why not xD;
b. I... think so. :3

5. a. I don't know. I bought it.
b. Yeah, but 1) I forgot where I got it from and 2) it expires and you can't save in the trial version anyway.

Yay! My intelligent answers.

o_o; I use it for drawing pictures, and the lines are a lot softer than those of PSP, that's why I use it.

Rough sketch = PSP
Final inking = OC
Coloring = Back to PSP

But I guess if you're not an artist then OC ain't the thing for you, hunny.

Hmm, I'm trying to find one that's free to download. It'd be just my luck to buy some really expensive product, and then hate it/ not use it all that much.

I'm really good at figuring out programs. As long as there's a help menu, I'll be able to find out how to do what I want to do. The difficulty level is not really the most important thing.

If you can get Photoshop it is going to be the best graphics program you can get hands down. as Erynn stated it is an industry standard. You cant get too much better than that.

I myself use GIMP, that's short fot Gnu Image Manipulation Program.
It basically can do anything the top line of photoshop can do and more.
You can easily teach yourself.
It also shows how to use different layers, like say you wanted to have a color wash over a black and white image, and wanted it blurred together while not blurring the pictures underneath. Well, you use a new layer, which is like having a pieve of perfectly clear plastic over the picture and working on that. It's actually pretty cool.

I myself use GIMP for all my fanart things including being my main program for my company Five Square Productions, which I'm using for the school network right now.

I do warn you, at first it can be a little confuzing. It's usually just a little window with a lot of buttons. But if you're familiar with photoshop, or even paint for pixel art, you'll soon learn.

GIMP, like the ever-growing Mozilla Firefox, is a LINUX BASED PROGRAM. But I have no knowlege whether they've created a program that can run on windows. But I'll look into it.

Have fun!

I know that there is a version of GIMP that runs on Windows and is free for download. The screenshots on the site look confusing as heck, coupled with the Windows version shots being in German and looks different than the other versions.

I'll look into it, though. Sounds like it might work. One thing though, does it do animations? 'Cause I really want a program that can do animations.

If you have a Community College nearby I'd suggest trying a compuer art class or two, if available. Find out what program they use and if you like it. Fifty dollars or less to thouroughly test-drive a program and (depending upon the instructor) learn more than the basics isn't a terrible way to go.

Personally I've used Paint Shop Pro for many years and have now started with Photoshop; however, I imagine any program with layers will likely allow you to produce nice art.

I've been very pleased with the GIF animation of Paint Shop and have made a few animated banners with it. I'm trying to see if I can learn enough of Maya or Poser to do 3d animation. I think it Maya has a free download - I got my version out of a tutorial book.

Haha. ._. I'm not much of a 'pencil and paper' artist. Besides, even if I did do a really good drawing, I wouldn't be able to do anything with it on my computer; I don't have a scanner.
