Like the title says, I'm not a real artist, I'm a bored guy with a passion and free time but no skill. That said, somehow I felt the need to put this here. Since its linked to my site, I'm paying the bandwith, and obviously if you're reading this, you have the free time, so nobody loses.
(My steps, if anybody at all cared, otherwise just skip to the end and view the piece)
Step 1) Get bored in history class and somehow have Aelita fly out of your sketchy hand in your style. Spend the next 40 minutes trying to force Yumi and then have your cell phone go off distracting the entire class for style points. Scan and boost the contrast a couple of times.

Notice at this point there are lots of design errors, working bored and without a reference will do that to ya. Doesn't matter too much, lots of time yet.
Step 2) Open up my trusty copy of Moho animation studio which was designed for something between web flash cartoons and serious cartooning ability. I love it because it's vector based points system allows me to rechoose lines over and over against just by pulling the points around. Here I have lined over the orriginal sketch. It's much like using photoshop only you don't have to have a steady hand and unbeliveable paitence, or a tablet.

At this point I decided to make a couple of changes in the points to fix it a little toward the real versions (particularly the egregious error of drawing Aelita with like a full dress sorta thing instead of the overall clasped style jumper,) anything else left off or undetailed is because I'm lazy or it doesn't work with the style.
Step 3) Moho also inks and fills when you define any closed shape of points, namely the shapes of the characters I've fan art-ed. If you want to get fancy you can draw shapes and make the lines invisible to do some nice shadeing, but I'm not that into this piece and it doesn't make my simplistic style look that much better anyway.

Step 4) take out the sketch reference, render the frame, shrink it in paint shop pro, upload, make a longwinded post, REPEAT? Here's what I came up with anyway: http://boris.fybertech.com/clart/aelitayumifinal.jpg
Anyway, hope you got some entetainment from all that, and comments/snide remarks are welcome~
