10/19 edit-- I added the final chapter, belatedly. Also, changing out the links in THIS post so they direct to the previous chapters at DA instead of FF.net because...well, I don't like FF.net anymore >.>; Anyway, check my post today below for the ending to UMSD.
Since it's nearing its end soon, I decided to put up UMSD. It's my vision of Code Lyoko's beginnings, and is apparently pretty popular xD ^^ The links to each of the chapters up are below, as well as their individual titles in bold, and small summaries of each. And below them is a special surprise *winks and smirks lightly*
Chapter One Creation and Discovery To program a world without danger. That was his mission, and it comes to fruition today. The world is started. Creations dubbed "Experimental Analog and Nanotech Approach" and "Artificial Electronic Lifeform Intended for Troubleshooting and Analysis" are born to take care of, and gather data from, this virtual scape. But...will it work?...
Chapter Two Beyond Human There have been a few bumps so far, but nothing too serious. More things happen everyday, including the sprite of this world finding a bit of tasty information...
Chapter Three Animal Instinct Aelita continues her exploration and learning process, as a certain supercomputer begins to plot. The input of animals into Lyoko causes an all new set of problems, including some unforseen ones for the programmer. Oops.
Chapter Four Need XANA starts to take things into his own ethereal hands, while Aelita is blissfully unaware, too involved in her own thoughts. Unfortunately, this spells bad news for the programmer when XANA learns how to access Earth, and bend things to his will...
Chapter Five Trouble in Paradise Aelita is now truly alone against XANA, who increases his forces and power every day. She discovers an ability, and learns the way to dodge, as she takes up a stand against the demonic computer. But after several close shaves, she realizes she can't do this alone...
Chapter Six A.E.L.I.T.A. Reinforcements are called in. *chuckles* Need I say more?
**SURPRISE!** A special, extended sneak-peek at Chapter 7! Spoilers ahead, but only for those who haven't read the above chapters so if you haven't, then do so before moving on. Other than that, read on ahead! ^^ And see? I TOLD you I was working on it! xD Enjoy!

"....Wow...." Ulrich murmured under his breath. He looked around with wide eyes, taking a step back as he looked around at the new world. "This is....Lyoko?..."
"Yes. Well, part of it anyway," Aelita replied. She smiled lightly--she remembered when her own senses were similarly overloaded at the experience--and she folded her arms across her stomach as she watched him. "There's also areas dubbed the Polar, Mountain, and Desert Regions. This is the Forest."
"That makes sense," Yumi remarked with a light giggle. She glanced towards her friend, and let out a short little gasp. "Ulrich! You..."
"You've both been given forms more adapted to the Lyokoscape." Aelita gave them a small smile as she watched the two look over each other in surprise. "It's a perfectly natural part of being virtualized. Now, come with me, I think it's time I explain Lyoko..." With that she turned and started walking down the path, but stopped and turned to look over her shoulder. "What is it called when one wishes to give another a...quick lesson in something? I seem to recall there's a term for it..."
"I think it's called a "crash course", Aelita," Yumi replied, smiling. She was met with a confused blink.
"Why is it called that?"
"...Nevermind. Just show us this world of yours." At that, Aelita smiled and nodded, continuing on her way, followed after by her new friends.

"Wow..." Jeremie's eyes flicked back and forth, scanning the handwritten lines in the journal in his lap. "This man...he was a veritable genius!" He glanced momentarily to the computer, and smiled slightly. "Of course, he'd have to be, to create a world such as this... And someone like...." Feeling his cheeks start to burn, he shook away the feeling and buried himself in the book again. "But....I'm beginning to see where things turned sour..." Leaving the journal open on one page, Jeremie leaned on his hand and read through the passage with more detail. Sighing lightly, he continued his little mutterings. "Apparently, this XANA has become a much greater AI body than its creater even began to envision... And that's when it happened..."
"Jeremie?" He jumped a little at his name, and glanced up at the screen. His hand against his cheek pushed the headset's microphone closer to his mouth as he sat up a bit.
"Yeah? What is it, Ulrich?"
"Just doing a routine check-in. How's it look out there?"
"Pretty routine." Jeremie tucked the book in closer and sat forward, beginning to type on the keyboard. At his command, various screens opened up over the map. "All of your stats are reading out 100 percent, the systems are reporting no dangers, and..." He blinked, glancing at a sub-monitor. "Your...weapons...appear to be in working order."
In the virtual world, Yumi stopped short on the forested path at that statement from above. "We have weapons??"
"Well, I think it's apparent that I do..." Ulrich remarked with a light smile. He glanced down, to where his hand rested on the hilt of a sword at his waist. Moving the hand down, he pushed against the guard with his thumb, sliding the katana out a bit with a slight, short ringing sound.
"According to your profile, Yumi, you have a weapon as well. You should find it tucked into your...uhh..."
"Obi." She smiled lightly, pulling out the folded fan from behind the sash around her middle.
"Yeah. Forgive my lapse of memory regarding that term, I know you mentioned it once..."
"It's alright, Jeremie," Yumi said, chuckling lightly. She smiled, lifting her eyebrows as she flicked open the fan, the metal pieces casting a light pink glow against her.
"Cool!" Ulrich exclaimed, as he slid his sword home. Turning, he glanced over at Aelita. "Do you have a weapon?" The girl shook her head, and sighed a little.
"I'm afraid not. In giving me the ability to intimately work with the towers, which I believe I explained already, my programmer couldn't fit an attack into my coding." She glanced down, then looked back up as she smiled. "I do, however, have a defensive ability inserted into my programming, as should the both of you..."
"Really? Cool!" Ulrich smiled, glancing at his hands and lightly flexing his fingers. "I wonder what mine is..."
Leaving his friends to their conversation, Jeremie sat back in his chair and reopened the journal, thumbing to the entry he'd left off at. Having the journal was only a little help in understanding the scope of what had been revealed to them that day, he had to admit. There was a lot to take in, and it didn't help that the incessant beeping of the computer kept interrupting his reading....
Wait....
"WHAT!?" He sat up with a start, the book crashing to the floor. Reflected in his glasses was a red warning symbol, flashing on the computer screen. As he hurriedly began typing, Aelita's voice came through on the system's speakers.
"Jeremie, we have a problem! I'm feeling pulsations! There's an activated tower nearby!"
"Then that means XANA's trying to make a move!" Yumi's voice cried.
"Alright, so what do I do? The creator's log said nothing about this event!" Jeremie exclaimed. He looked up at the screen, his teeth catching his bottom lip.
"Locate the tower, although given the strength of these pulsations, I think it's in the same area we're in now..." Aelita answered. "We'll follow them in the meantime. And be on the lookout for any monsters!"
"Of course!" Opening the source code, he began recreating the tower scan program in another window. With a press of the Enter key, the word "Initialized" flashed briefly on the screen, before the scanning began. Sparing only a moment, Jeremie began typing again as the edges of his vision tracked the trio of icons moving across his map. Inside, a firm resolve built up, and the already-made decision clicked further into place. XANA, no matter what tricks he tried to pull, would never win...
---
But he would try. In his own little white space, the consciousness of the virus stewed in its own anger. He should have been more careful about dealing with that girl's cry for help! But, no matter... She had called in reinforcements, and there were only two unskilled warriors in Lyoko, and one left behind to work the computers. Deal with the ones in his world first, and he could take care of the brainiac later. And then Aelita would get hers...
Stretching out a tendril of thought, he sent out a command to his own waiting reinforcements. This...itch could be scratched rather easily, if he only used the right tools...

^^ I'm reading it right now and I love it so. I...I can't think of what else to say...other than (at least for the first chapter) XANA does seem to have "his" self.
^^ Which plays nicely into an image I'd like to draw. OO
Illustrations, perhaps? To follow this story, if you wouldn't mind? (Giving you credit for the source (story) of course.)
^^ Must read more...
[ EDIT: Should clarify...I mean, XANA seems to be more than just a program, same as Aelita...except he doesn't necessarily have a "humanoid" form. ]
Good to know you love it so far! I only hope that extends throughout the rest of the story ^^ And sure, you can do an illustration for it; UMSD needs more pics than the single one I've done for it so far xD;

^^ My first thought of an illustration was XANA speaking to Aelita...but they'd be sorta small ones so I could fit several onto a page...^^ But it sounds like a great project.
But, I want to finish the fic first, before I start drawing. ^^ Then I can look back at my leisure and mark spots that could definitely make good illustrations.
^^ Reading Chapter 3, seems as if XANA's really developing his own mind...o.O Eeriely similar to the idea of man creating its own destruction.
^^ Too true. There are so many movies depicting it, but Code Lyoko by itself really sums it up...and your fanfic puts it into motion. ^^ More good scenes have shown up...I definitely want to at least sketch the Wasp scene...and the firewall instance with XANA...
^^ I'm drawn in tightly...I'll have to add you to my Watch List on FF.net. I don't have any CL fanfics yet, but I'm working on one...sorta. xD
Well, with the scenes you've listed so far of possibly drawing, I can't wait to see your interpretation of them ^^ And if you ever need any help or anything on translating the words to a picture, though I don't think you will, don't hesitate to ask ;P ^^

^^ I'm barely containing my excitement...this is an amazing interpretation of the birth of XANA, Aelita....everything...
And so many good spots for drawing. ^^ It's like I can see all of this in my head...like a movie or something...I can completely visualize everything that's going on...
^^ Well, I have to leave in half an hour, but I'll save the fic on my computer so I can refer to it for the illustrations.
Absolutely wonderful work...OO And what's eerie is that the fanfic I want to write sort of talks about this through XANA's perspective (sorta).
Alright, I've got it saved and I'll start marking spots tomorrow...I have a Japanese class tomorrow at 10 AM, so I shouldn't stay up really late (it's 10:30 here.)
Still, before I do anything...character models! ^^; I finished Chapter 6, and I'm really excited...
The only thing missing at the moment is Odd, but meh. ^^ Everything's beautifully written.
And now, I bid you adieu, for sleep is my greatest enemy, but the dreams within are worth the pain.
**Illustration Update** Hm...I've marked the stuff in Chapter 6 (working backwards) and some will have more illustrations than others...but one large one for each chapter coupled with at least one smaller one. ^^
Okay, this is a SUPER belated update, especially since I finished this chapter (and the fic) back in June, and haven't posted at LF since last year, excluding the past few days ^^;
But, since due to some problems with FF.net, the 7th chapter of UMSD isn't up there. It, and the previous six, are all at DA and that's where this one is linked from; I'm also going back to the first post and switching out the FF.net links for the DeviantArt ones. So....yeah, sorry about waiting so freakin' LONG to post the finale of the fic ^^;; Forgive me?
Chapter Seven Stronger After All The battle for Earth reaches a new head when Aelita and Jeremie get some new recruits in their mission. But with XANA tracking their every move and a new program in the works that even Jeremie can't read, how will it end?
