Well, I did consider putting this at ‘CL in your day-to-day lives’, but what I’m about to tell you has shaken my world so much I decided to shout it from the rooftops.
I’ve been unsure about what to do with myself now that I’ve left compulsory education (which ends at age 16/17 in the UK) – I’ve considered going into the next two years of school, which are optional but require good exam grades. This is a problem as I’m a minor special needs student which means I work poorly under exam conditions (one effect is that I was entitled to 25% more time in each exam) and make spelling and grammar mistakes which can reduce my score and made a difference between pass or fail.
Dad suggested I apply for a college course (he works at the college in question), which would allow me to do a more in depth course in a subject which appeals to me. I ended up applying for the ‘Media-Production’ course, which gives training in the practical skills of filmmaking, and this particular course greatly increases my chance for admission into universities for more advanced courses. Students from this course go onto the top media schools and some have made it into Oscar winning film crews
As part of the application, I was required to send in a piece of creative work. So, I spent an afternoon and an evening perfecting my AMV, Code: Solid (which uses music from the Metal Gear Solid 3 soundtrack) and sent it into the college. At the interview, I was told I’ll know if I made the course within a week, while I was on holiday
During the holiday, Dad phoned the admissions unit at the college to find out if I got on…they offered me an unconditional offer (no matter what exam results I get) to join the course! I accepted it straight away. And from there, University and then hopefully a career in the movie-making business! Whatever happens after though, admission to this course has given my life a heading for the next two years.
I don’t know how much of this acceptance is due to the CL video I sent in, but I know it must have contributed, so I made this thread to say…
THANK-YOU CODE: LYOKO FOR SAVING MY ACADEMIC LIFE
Oh, and if you’re interested, the perfected version of Code: Solid can be seen here.
