Postby Darkness Incarnate » Thu Feb 23, 2006 12:55 pm

When I first started watching CL I thought the towers could now be distroyed thats why aelita always goes to them but on "code earth" the mega tank was taking shots at one and I think that it almost did distroy one of the towers. Can someone anwer this for me?

Towers, like anything in Lyoko, are just virtual extensions of programs in the supercomputer - in this case they are 'interface points' where people in Lyoko can access some surface functions of the computer.

Destroy the tower (which also nearly happened in Contact) and you freeze the program and any functions it was running. Just what would happen to anyone inside the tower though is unknown - it seems likely that they'd just be exposed to further attack.

Towers are also much more durable and protected than most other virtual creations in Lyoko (rightfully so, its a representation of the computers memory and interface). That's why you need a megatank to put a dent in it. At the same time, XANA can't just destroy towers so carelessly, otherwise its wasted resource.

That's why XANA only attacks towers in times of desperation. In Code:Earth, its possible that XANA did not recognize the link Aelita had with him would extend outside to Earth, so he needed to prevent possible shut-down. With Contact, Franz Hopper was trying to reach the gang, and XANA couldn't have him leak out information that would be potentially detrimental to him. So except in those cases, a neutral tower is definately the safest place on Lyoko.

Actually, if "Contact" is anything to go by, excessively shooting at a tower with a MegaTank will not destroy it (at least no immediately). It will merely deactivate all activities going on within the tower and free it of whoever is using it at the moment. The Megatank in "Contact" was able to destroy Franz Hopper's control over the tower in that way.
