The creator of the show said some time ago that Ulrich is indeed of German descent, although neither he nor his parents speak the language.

Yumi is a no-brainer. Japan, obviously.

I'm going to assume that Jeremie is French, considering his last name. He and Aelita are probably the only main characters that don't have a lot of family backstory to work with.

Odd is a tough one. His first name is Norwegian, but his last name is Italian. I can't say that he's not either one of them, although I'm seriously doubting that he or his parents are of direct Italian descent, merely from Odd's hair and skin color. He has light hair and is fairly pale, which is deffinately not of Italian characteristics. I can't make any assumptions, although in a fanfiction I'm writing where there is a short flashback, Odd speaks Norwegian as a first language.

Uhh...

Anias Fiquet is probably French. xD;;

I can't see Odd being the son of a military man O.o I mean... If Odd turns sidewise you can't even see him! lol

It's actually fairly likely that either his father, brother, grandfather or some other relative is in the military. Taken directly from his Wikipedia file:

Several small clues in the series reveal that Odd may have had a relative who was in the military. For example, in "Just in Time", he tells Milly and Tamiya "About face," which is a term used in the military for a 180° turn to the right from the position of attention. He says this in many other episodes, like "Attack of the Zombies", usually to prepare his friends for battle. He also commands XANA's monsters like an army in "Marabounta", and was complimented by Yumi for being a good combat general. Since his parents are artists, it would likely be his grandfather, or perhaps his father.

The whole 'Odd's Dad as Military Man' is something I love as anyone who's read my fanfic concepts know - I even doodled a picture of what he might look like - wonder of all wonders Matt Geczy praised it and said it looks like HIS father (who is a retired officer in the US Army)!

Many have pointed out that an officer in the army would not be an artist - my counterpoint is that 'artist' can mean many things besides 'painter' (which seems most associated with Odd who just describes his family as 'creative') - I imagined Odd's dad as a musician in a regimental jazz band - blues and sax and all that jazz!

Meh, you don't have to listen to me though!

Yumi's name is Japanese for beautiful bow (hence she's japanese). Ulrich's name is German for protector (hence he's German). Jeremie's name is French for Jeremiah (hence he's French). Odd's name is Norwiegen for point of a sword. The pattern I have found in their name orgins and their nationalities makes me think that Odd is Norwiegen. I have tried to find the orgin of Aelita but have been unsucessful. Sorry.

I don't think Jeremie is French for Jeremiah. Jeremie is the short form of Jeremiah, not a French translation (the name is the same everywhere else). Jeremiah is biblical in origin, I believe. Judging by his general appearance, I would more guess that he's a Briton as opposed to a French, although his last name suggests otherwise. He did however have a British accent in Garage Kids, which may have been a clue. :D

Aelita is supposedly Russian in origin. I think, if the name's really are an indication of their nationality, than her father may be of a Russian/German descent of some sort and named her Aelita in honor of his heritage. This is all conjecture though. ^^

I just thought of something about Kiwi's name though, and Odd's origin. Kiwi fruit are covered in short sparse brown hairs. If we look at the color of Kiwi's coat, it is possible that that is where his name is coming from. Kiwi's covered in short, likely coarse, brown-ish fur. Maybe Odd thought he felt like a Kiwi fruit and named him in honor of that. Odd would name a dog after a food, too... XD

Interesting that you could think about Kiwi.

I've heard (or read) that Kiwi could be from New Zealand (along with the rumours of Odd being born there)... or just bought from France, or got to France in a boat for being submitted to be part of a fur coat.

Wikipedia can't make it's mind up. Odd could be either Norwegian or Italian. (this is taken from wikipedia):

Odd's last name is derived from the Italian family of the della Robbia, a Florentine family of sculptors and ceramists active from the 15th to the 16th century. The most well-known of the family's members is Luca della Robbia, an important Italian Early Renaissance Sculptor, who lived from 1400 until 1482. With Odd's interests in drawing, music, and the arts, this is obviously no coincidence. Odd is a capable guitarist, as seen in "Laughing Fit". He also is a good singer. Odd's parents are also artists. Odd's first name, however, is Norwegian. His name translates from Norwegian as "point of a sword," which is fitting since he has a somewhat-militant attitude once there's a XANA alert. The name "dellarobbia" is also the name used to describe a kind of art using ribbons. Hee's quite fluent in Italian.

He's also fluent in Japanese and Chinese, it seems. *imagines Matt singing a Japanese song in Odd's voice*

Chinese...yes, kind of...Japanese...not so much (if "A Fine Mess" is anything to go by). XD Plus, he might only know a few words have picked them up either from Yumi or from any number of the anime/manga she (or Ulrich) or himself likely watch/read. We haven't seen him speak as much Japanese or Chinese as we did Italian (which he also admitted he was taking a class for), so we're not exactly sure if he's fluent in those other languages. I wouldn't put it past him to learn though...he might have an interest in learning languages. :)

Well, he may like learning languages and not paying attention in his other classes. :)
Next Japanese Holiday:

July/August 7, Star Festival (tanabata)

About: 7th day of the 7th month of the year, when, according to a Chinese legend, the two stars Altair and Vega, which are usually separated from each other by the milky way, are able to meet. Some celebrate it in July others in August. Tanabata is not a national holiday.

It seems to me that Odd is the kind of person who wouldn't pay attention in any of his classes, I think he may just have a natural talent for languages. Going by this I would have to think that Odd at least lived in Italy for a short time during his life to pick up the language since in most cases you have to speak the language quite a bit and be surrounded by it to get really good at it.
