was that the only time he could do that though, or is that sort of a new skill he has picked up, curving arrows among other changes.

I thought so because I noticed he started doing it more regularly.

Ulrich, well, his move seems not to change..but I guess you cant do too much with a sword.

Well he fights quicker and easier. In 'Revelation' we got to see that. Xana-Ulrich and Ulrich fighting... that was awesome.

Yeah, it reminded me of that. Weird that a girl also watches and likes Star Wars, huh? My 18-year-old best friend invites me over to see Star Wars stuff. :D

One thing I liked was that the Mantas formed a swarming attack, that shows me that the monsters do have some level of understanding. more than just attack and die.

They're kind of like a colony of ants, they work together and they form groups to protect.

I think in direct attack form Ulrich has the upper hand, but in cunning, sneaky, off the wall attacks, Odd has the upper hand.

but I was referring to attacks...not monsters...*on topic yall*

do you think ulrich has more of a no nonsense type approach, odd can be serious too, but he tends to add more humor to his fighting style.

I would like to say this about Odd's Laser Arrows and his use of them in Season 1. He gets a lot of comments about the whole, running out of arrows thing and usually when comparing warriors, thats considered his main weakness, which I think has been highly exaggerated. In the 22 episodes he's been to Lyoko in Season 1, which is more than the other defenders, he's only ran out of arrows 3 times (End of Take, Zero Gravity Zone, and False Start). Only once was it at an inopportune time, in False Start where he realized he was out of arrows and was promptly killed off. In End of Take, Aelita was already in the tower, so his running out was inconsequential. In Zero Gravity Zone, Jeremie kept reloading, and it didn't really matter since there were too many enemies for the team to handle anyways. So 1 out of 22 is a pretty good record for not running out at the wrong moment if you ask me.

I never thought about it that way...Odd is pretty consistent with his arrows.

Odd has boxing moves, and is brave enough to actually use them...whereas Ulrich, well, I guess that sword is limited in capabilities...not much you can do except stab, slice, poke...that sorta thing.

Sword fighting is an intricate art, so I don't understand in what way it is "limited". With a 1-sided blade you probably have about 7 basic cuts and a thrust. Add into the possibility if you include wielding it with one hand, or if you include techniques which slash directly after unsheathing like Iaido or Batoujutsu, and you can get complicated stuff. And thats just with a katana. If you include double-edged swords, greatswords, cut-thrusts, 1handed, hand and halfs, or add in grappling moves on top of your sword techniques, you'll have a body of information to fill up a hundred training manuals.

On top of that, Lyoko's odd sense of physics allows for move mobility and more odd movements. I doubt you would see a normal swordsman try and slash something while doing a frontflip. Plus, he is able to block and redirect enemy fire power. And if you include that Odd knows boxing, you should include Ulrich's Pencak Silat.

In my opinion, Ulrich is probably the most balanced fighter of the 3, having 2 very easily used in battle abilities (superspeed and ability to become 3 people). On an open battle field with a few enemies at a time against ground based enemies, he probably has an edge. Though Yumi's and Odd's abilities are a bit less friendly in open combat, they are more open to more creative usage and odd situations.

The way I see it, Odd's abilities themselves are probably the most limited of the 3. His weapon is Laser Arrows, which anyone can use with a bit of competence fairly easily in his place (if they know how). Easier to fire a gun, than wield a sword, after all and Yumi did much better with Odd's arrows than Odd did with Yumi's tessen fans. His powers, Shield and Foresight, are situational at best, and rarely dependable in long term usage. Odd makes up for that with good use of his innate skills, like his acrobatics, his climbing ability (which went nicely in Laughing Fit), and creative thinking. Add to the fact that he enjoys going to Lyoko and gets their more often and he's an excellent defender. Can't really be a good fighter if you're never there for the fight.

good point...I never realized swords could be that complicated....but I have never seen Ulrich use Pencak Silat....maybe if you could give me an example of what it is and how he uses it, then I could see if and when he does...but I do see your point about Odd being the most limited.

I also agree that Odd doesnt think too far ahead...but I see that as a good thing sometimes too, because if you start thinking too far ahead, you lose sight of whats happening in the moment..and on Lyoko, that could be a fatal mistake.

Never having studied Pencak Silat, I wouldn't be able to tell you the obvious signs of him doing it. But probably the closest estimations I could give you would probably be Franz Hopper when he did a turning hook kick to a Creeper sending it off a cliff, as well as a side kick and leg sweep, as well as a few unarmed stances in Revelation, against XANA-Ulrich. Whether that is actually Pencak Silat or not, though, I can't tell you with great certainty.
