How were you introduced to CL?

General original series discussion (Seasons 1-4)

I've already said this four or five times, but all of those times were on TVTome, and TVTome is gone...

So I'll say it again. When I saw the Miguzi ads for Code Lyoko, I thought it was CRAP! I thought it was some kind of children's Mission Impossible rip-off, especially with the scene where the girl in the stupid heart shirt was getting her orders from the guy (I later found out that the scene was Sissy getting her "line" from Finson in "End of Take"...). I was glad that that show would be showing while I was on my way home while I would be home for Teen Titans.

This state of ignorance lasted for the entire first showing. The second showing coincided with my April vacation. I decided to watch an episode. The episode I watched was "TeddyGozilla". It looked interesting, and I was pleased to note that the girl in the stupid heart shirt was not one of the good guys... In fact the first part of the show made me think it was a better version of the usually dumb "kids at school" shows like Saved By The Bell .

I was completely drawn in. The teddy bear attack did seem ridiculuous, but that was countered by the identifiable Mercedes-Benz A-Klasse amongst the wreckage. My only regret at the end of the show was that I wished I had started from the first episode (little did I know...)

I watched it once more during that week of vacation and then I started rushing home to catch the end of the show. My sister later suggested that I could tape the show so I could see entire episodes. That's how I came to catch them all on tape...

It was really just so that I could see complete episodes. She expected me to watch it once and then, when the tape ran out, to recycle the tape to record the others. Instead, I bought more tape and caught all of Season One.

> How were you introduced to CL?

It was something new and looked interesting.

I tuned in for a few episodes, but didn't get totally hooked until a bit latter.

One of the big things that drew me in is trying to figure out the whole plot.

It has this refreshing original plot. The characters are fun. It's funny sometimes.

I remember some people were confused by the fact that TeddyGodzila was
the first episode, but I think that mystery about how things started made it
more interesting to watch.

My story is as followed:

I was a Totally Spies fan before CL ever came to the picture, I watched in because my bro made me, just to tick me off. So I got hooked on that show, to the point where I had favorite chariters and could name episodes just by seeing a little bit of the episode. Anyhoo, they moved the show to Miguzi on 19 of April. Miguzi was this stupid lineup for little kids 10+, but I did'nt give a damn....I loved TT and started watching it everyday at five, I seen the CL ads and I did'nt say anything about them, I did'nt care about CL only Spies.

So one day, I was watching TT, I think it was one of the older episode late in the first season, and it was done so I had nothing to do so I turned off CL and watched something esle.....bored to death, turn off the TV and hit the PS2 and played some GTA or GT3 (don't rememebr the game)

After a while, I got bored again so I turn on the TV and flipped around till I saw this CGI animation on CN. I was like WTH!? I watch the rest of "Just in Time"(I remember it was that episode cause I saw Odd saving the little girls in the building)

I wacth the rest of the show with my mouth on the floor....it was so cool looking. After the show ending I rememebered the show so I could watch a whole episode on Mon. Monday came and I did'nt watch the show...i did become a true fan till I forced myself to sit and watch

But, I glad I did....cause we are all here and we are all friends now

Great post Paige.....so many good times!!!

When I first watched CL on Cartoon Network, I thought it was the most awfully-designed piece of animation ever made. But I fell in love with the theme song. Since then, I've come to like the show as well, and watch it whenever I can.

Heh. A friend told me I reminded him of Yumi (...although I'm not sure how he came to this conclusion). My interest was piqued, so I checked it out. I caught the last five minutes of Satellite on its first run, and then began watching the show daily after that.

For some weird reason, I'm utterly taken by this show, despite the weird designs, insanity, and funky animation. Oi.

But when Odd went into the sewers, through the factory, down the lift, and into the scanners I was drooling with love at this complex, beautifully realised, fantastic yet believable world.

The Factory was based, funnily enough, on a once existing factory in Paris, France. The Old Renault Factory, which has since been torn down, strongly resembles the CL Factory, both outside and in. There's photos of it at LyokoCode, and it's really striking how much influence it had...I believe even the elevator was in there too. Too cool... :D

Kadic is also based on a real school, but it's several miles southwest of where the factory was, and on the other side of the Seine.

Was there a swimming pool in Season One :umm: I can't remember. I am pretty sure there was. Well, anyway, there definitely is in season two and I recognized it. It's parisien municipal swimming pool I've been to several times. It's not far from where I live.

In "Log Book" the bus was supposed to take the class to the swimming pool. It didn't make it; it went to the petrochemical plant instead, with the intention of ramming a huge gas tank (CNG? LPG? I don't know...) and blowing the place sky-high.

cartoon network has always been my favorite channel. even when i started watching the n for degrassi, i've always loved my cartoons too! so when miguzi started coming on the air, naturally i watched it. i was a totally spies fan for a while but then i got sick of it and started watching teen titans a lot... but then erynn told me to watch code lyoko and so i did and i decided it was my favorite miguzi show. mostly because i liked the animation style. it was new and different, unlike teen titans... tt is really trying too hard sometimes to be what it isn't. but that's okay, it's still a pretty good show imo.

totally spies though... man don't even get me started. :*D

Okay, I'll finally go with how I started watching Code Lyoko.

February 2005. I was alone with my mother at home. I had cash for a month, but wasted it quickly on crap, LS and stuff (my dad and brother went to the States for a whole month). So a part of the month I was just at home, boring myself to death. The same routine and...

Until one day I just wake up, take my breakfast and started watching the tv. I was zapping through the channels, and I was like "what the h*l* should I watch?" while searching for something worth to look. For a good time, I stopped watching cartoons because of my age and lack of free time. I was defiantely more into real life series than animated ones. I ignored a lot of cartoon shows and anime as well, with the exception of Pokemon and The Simpsons, but the lack of free time and their changes made me lost interest on the first one.

But I just put on Jetix (I do watch CL there) and I see Yumi all of a sudden. Then, I changed the channel and seconds later, I switched back to Jetix and seeing the Lyoko world. And Yumi was about to kiss some boy we all know as Ulrich Stern. And I was like "awesome", while they were going for it. But then, the RTTP took place and I was like "son of a b***h!" and then I watched it through the end. Then, my boredom came back again.

In less than a week, I started to remember about Yumi. I was wondering like "where the bloody h*l* I sw her?". Quickly, I got into watching Jetix again, just to see Code: Earth and suddenly False Start[/ì]. It was cool.

Then, I started watching CL again with more frequence. Liked it even more when Sissi and Finson made me laugh really hard at [i]End Of Take
. It was like "I'm watching a show that deals with young kids, action and comedy. Yay!!" and I started watching it more often. Found out that I had it 12 times in a week to watch CL (which would be Just Like Heaven for Mewberries151 and many other devoted CL fans like her).

Later came to find info about CL. On a spanish forum I found out about Garage Kids. Quickly, I saw the 5 minute thing and I had questions about it. So since CL wasn't a show as popular as SpongeBob (I HATE that s**t), South Park, etc., I remembered that TvTome was very useful for shows like Buffy The Vampire Slayer, ER, Angel, etc. Shows were it wasn't necesary for me to join the forum. All the info were in the episode summaries. Very good and useful.

But CL wasn't that kind of show. So I joined the forum and made a GK thead about why didn't Jeremie died while he was falling. My question seemed sort of stupid the way OBoy and somebody else (I do remember OBoy's reply, it almost made me leave the forum), and I just felt crappy. Then, more relaxed, I started vaguing around the CL TvTome forum, looking around the Blob-Vili relationship, Mewberries151 and Hiroshi Yamabuki (the two persons I appreciated the most at TvTome, the first one for being a lady and the other for just being awesome and quite twisted), Voice Actors (first thing in mind: WTF? No offensse to the VA's, just in case), etc. But that's another story...

I can't believe that a apparently-pathetic-at-a-first-instance show led me to what we stand for today. Isn't it amazing?
