Actually...to be fair, XANA's never had the chance to voice his reasons. It's assumed he's trying to take over the world, but that sounds a bit to cliche...even for him. I'd more buy into the idea that he's simply trying to eradicate humans from the face of the earth. Humans are obsolete...we take far more from our environment than we tend to give back. And we base our actions on feelings a greater deal of the time, rather than by logic. By all means...we're kind of useless, so far as a self-sufficient computer would be concerned.

Until XANA actually announces that he is bent on taking over the world, his motives for being the psychopathic menace that he is, are rather unclear...past the fact that the virus in him is making him act outside of his established programming, and that he'd like to escape the confines of Lyoko for whatever reasons he has. He's still quite the enigma, I believe. ^^
