How were you introduced to CL?

General original series discussion (Seasons 1-4)

For me, it went something like:

Me: *bored*
...
Hmm... maybe I should watch TV!
*turns TV on*
...
Boring... Maybe there's something good on Cartoon Network!
*click*
Ooh, pretty animation...

And something, I'm not sure what, was started. I must say, however, that some time after I first saw the Season 1 finale, I stopped watching and actually forgot that the show had even existed; that is, until I saw the Season 2 commercials. I was like

"huh... Haven't I seen that before?"
*click-click-click-click-click DING!*
Oh yeah, that show! Cool, new episodes!

Yeah...
I like short signatures. Do you?

Well for me, it was pretty much a repeat story of the others here. I remember watching the Muguzi promos and the only thing I remembered about the series was the title and I didn't give it a second thought. Later I can across the end of "Seeing is Believing" and my first Code Lyoko experience was that of the team singing "Mystery Girl." For some reason of God those few minutes of French animation tugged at my heart strings in a similar fashion as when I started watching Neon Genesis Evangelion and Digimon (two series that I hit me...HARD). Of course at that time I really didn't know what to do with this new sensation at it was quickly forgotten.

One day I was channel surfing, my previous experience almost non-existant. I turn to Cartoon Network to see what was playing. On that day Code: Earth was playing and the scene and by chance the first scene came across was Yumi showcasing her...*ahem* "talents" while changing. This prompted a quick double take followed by an anime-ish face fault onto my living room floor. As I dusted off the mental cobwebs and waited for the room to stop spinning I as all WTH?! cause I thought this was just going to be a kid's show. Well since I didn't want my near concussion to be in vain I finished the episode of course out of obligation I saw False Start.

Now I know EXACTLY which scene got me hooked at it was the most unlikely one for a CL fan in general. For some reason, I really connected to the characters kicking butt outside of Lyoko as I thought those scenes were more heroic and daring. Course the grand daddy of these moments was Jim with the nailgun as he made a transfromation from Jimbo to Rambo. I was on the edge of my seat cheering on the PE teacher as he laid waste to the monsters. That's when I became a fan.

Unfortunately (or maybe fortunatly for you guys) every episode of Code Lyoko generated a great deal of excited energy from me. The kind of energy that made you want to get off your lazy butt to do someting. Well I wasn't satisfied with my daily dosage so I upped it. At that time I was reading a TON of Evangelion fanfiction. Written by awesome authors that contained excellent stories and spot on characterization. To satisfy my addiction I headed over to fanfiction.net for some literary goodness. Now keep in mind, when I first arrived CL was not the juggernaut it is today and there were a total of around 180 fics posted. Feeling disappointed I started reading through the stories and I was dishearted to see that these stories did not match the high caliber stories I read about Evangelion. Of course I was also dissastisfied with the ACCs used in these stories as they did nothing to add to the overall experience.

Now this got the gears in my head turning. With that realization an idea was planted in my head. At first it was pretty small almost a joke. The entire CONCEPT of me writing was absurd. I never written a story before and I wasn't so good at the skill in the school as I would drop more C+'s and B-'s than any other student I knew. The thing about me and ideas are that whenever I get one all my mental resources are put into developing it and it was driving me INSANE. I had to do something or else I would go crazy. I started planning out characters, rearanging plotlines. Outlining future original chapters that I would write out. Then it happened. The Retelling Series was born and Teddygodzilla was released. However it didn't end there. I kept writing. I kept choreographing intricit fight scnes in the real world having my friends help me so I could later write them down. One thing turned to another and one year later I'm still here writing my butt off.

Man, this is post is ridiculously long. Almost Oboy long. lol!

It started out like TB3. When it first came to Toonami, TB3 was still in school with me and went home in his car to watch Teen Titans. During the adverts, this happened:
TB3 wrote:I saw the Toonami advert. I can't remember it fully but over a montage of shots it was something like this.

The world is in danger from an evil virus, and only Aelita can save it. To do so she needs the help of her friends Jeremie, Ulrich, Yumi and Odd.

Code: Lyoko, next Monday at 3.00. Only on Toonami.

Now my initial reaction was THIS LOOKS SH(bleep!). I thought it was some awful reharsh of the tired 'only a group on ordinary kids can save the world' formula. I also thought it was American. (No offense)

I agreed with TB3 and stayed away from it all costs. Shortly after this, TB3's final exams started and got study leave from school. Here are a few formulas: Lots of free time=Borden. Borden=Trying new things.
Towards the end of the summer term at school, I noticed that he was starting watching CL and searching for it on the net (he used world without danger to annoy me and my sister!) Then he joined a website called Lyoko Freak...
Over the next 3 months, I was willing to discuss it but refuse to watch it because of that awful theme tune. But I was intrigued.

In October, TB3 left for University. A few days later, I had a tape returned from a friend witch had the CL episode Code Earth after a few films and a Star Trek ep. That evening, I rewind the tape to watch the end of one film and remembered CL was on it. I decided to watch to see what the big fuss was about. When I told TB3 what I did...I told him I enjoyed it. Next day, he signed me up here...without telling me.

Things took off when I was on work experience (a week away from school and go to an assigned job) early this month. I worked in the evenings, so I decided to learn to program the VCR by recording CL. It was the exact week that it started to start again at the beginning. (False Start on tomorrow) I've now recorded all but 7 eps.
Now I need a daily fix of World Without Danger to keep going!

Erm...
I started back in april 2004, I actally liked watching TS, and then I saw the first three minutes of Holiday in the fog. I thought it was one of those poorly made anime shows with someone fighting dragons and getting help from theyr littl gnome friends.
Then I saw Odd fightingg and I was hooked. But I could never get how to pronounce the name, due to a small case of dixlexia.

Hmm... I remember I always wanted to watch it from the beginning because I saw the Miguzi commercials and I thought the 3D looked awesome.. but I could never catch it. I remember the first episode I saw was "Swarming Attack." I caught it in the middle but nevertheless I fell in love (even though I didn't know what happened when they RTTP'd and I thought Sissi was giving him a different letter lol)

I was -fanatic- about watching it, I had to catch every single episode. I especially loved going to Lyoko and all the.. er.. romance... (I called it my soap  )

Anyway.. I went to codelyoko.com one day (this was back when it was old school and sucky) and that was when I fell in love with the theme song cuz they had it playing over and over. I don't really remember how I figured out it was French, but one day I googled "Un Monde Sans Danger" and after pages of stuff en Francais, I finally found a fledgling little forum with an administrator named Yumi Ishiyama.... the rest was history ;) Okay, okay, I originally joined bacause I wanted the music.. whatever.

One of the first full episodes i saw was... oh, the name escapes me... It was the one with the movie monster.
anyways, I thought the computer room was under the school that they accessed through a ladder in a room or closet, and Sissy was Ulrich's older sister.

Very true.

My story's a repeat of everyone's. Except the way I found it. I found the advert for CL on the back of a magazine, and I remember thinking, "Okay, name sounds cool, but seriously...". Then, a while later, I saw some of an ep (which I can now identify with Frontier). It was when Jer was virtualized. I thought, "This is THE dumbest thing on Earth!" I must have seen it earlier, because I had a mutual understanding, I knew that Jeremie-kid (my future love) wasn't supposed to be in that world. Than, perhaps a year later, CL was reairing the eps in preperation for Season 2. I watched some of TeddyGoZilla out of boredom. I was not hooked, I still thought it was stupid. (To think...I'm now obsessively transcripting that ep...). I had many misconceptions-I thought Sissi was Yumi (GKKT!), like others, I was confused as to Odd's gender (I couldv'e sworn I'd seen small 'indentations' on his chest before...GKKT...then he opened his mouth...I was surprised. I was like, "Okay...that cool chick's a GUY?!), and...I was still thinking the show was dumb (...GKKT!).

I don't remember when I was hooked. It was either Satellite or Image Problem-whichever aired first. I loved them. This was where I first thought Jeremie was cute. I looked it all up on TV.com, and got involved in the forums. Then I went on vacation, around a few days before the 'Materializaton Finale' was to air. In the car, I came up with my first fanfiction idea (Jeremie discovers this horrible secret about Aelita, one that turns the tides on the entire battle, and leaves him doubting his own sanity).

Once this happens to me, there is no escape.

So it's now an obsession.

Yeah, I started out like everyone else, except I was a bit of a late bloomer. Amazingly, nobody was instantly hooked. Everyone hated it at first. I guess CL is an aquired taste, but when aquired, it tastes so good.

True, so true on all counts. CL is not widely popular, but to those who fell something 'click' between them and it, it leaves a lasting love. This has been my deepest obsession in years - never have I become so involved in a fandom, never.

And I don't regret a minute of it.

I was on the computer, and the tv is basically always on. I got off the computer for no reason in particular, and started to watch CN, and what are the chances CL is on. I only saw about the last part of Holiday in the fog. But after that, I just really wanted too see how they would die...

Back when Cartoon Network showed the commercials that Miguzi would be on at 5-7 PM on weekdays instead of Toonami I payed particular attention to the parts about Code Lyoko because I had never heard of it before, and thought it looked like something I might like. So I watched the first day and I did, but I didn't like it more than any other show I'd watched, and I kept watching. I became obsessed with it shortly after Laughing Fit, and eventually started to check TvTome every so often for any news on a Season 2.

This is how I got started.

I used to be such a Digimon fan back in the day(still am to a point). I used to daydream of fighting evil digimon as a digital monster, but all i needed was a themesong to fight to. (lol) So one day while i was trying to download death metal songs on Limewire, i left my tv on and the amazing "do do do do do do" part of the CL theme song played and i loved it lol. What really hooked me was the Theme song and actually somewhat of the story. So basicly, instead of thinking of kicking Digimon butt, now i think of kicking Team Lyokos butt by Xana's side. :evillaugh:

The theme song... Why is it always the theme song? It is awfully contagious, I hum it to myself a lot... But how do you like a show just because of the theme song?

I don't think anybody really knows. But I've thought about it. Besides from it being a generally awesome song, it kind of symbolizing everything Code: Lyoko is, and also the communities that have grown out of CL fans... sometimes I start to sniffle a little when I listen to it ::sniff::

I can't really listen to any music while I'm writing fanfics or I'll get distracted (Attention span of a gnat! lol)

TB3 wrote:It's just a great, upbeat song, and suitible for many occasions.

i.e. I played the music in the backgound while recording a voice message onto my Dad's Birthday Card (one of those ones with a speaker that you can tape your voice on). Not only did it make the great background accompaniment to a message wishing him Happy Birthday from me at University, but apparently Team Lyoko and our Sister both threw fits when they heard it, cracking me up when they phoned about it.

Mum and Dad however, loved it.

For hours on end, I sang it to my sister...which resulted in clawing. Ouch.

But I have to admit it, the theme is just catchy. I giggle every time I hume it.
