Maybe he went to another school, a private one, and didn't come back until second season? Maybe he got into trouble, like Jeremie, except for a differant reason, and had to stay there. Either that, or he was still inside with his mother at the start, and was following his mom to the car, even though he couldn't be seen.

About the wedding, it would probably be an eastern wedding because I know from experience that when it comes to the wedding ceremony, the bride always wins. My brother got married about three years ago and he wanted a medieval wedding with everyone dressed up in tunics and robes, but she wanted a normal wedding at this very beautiful reception center...my god, it was like a colonial mansion, but fitted for the modern age. So anyway, she talked him down after the next couple of months and he gave into her suggestion. Besides, Ulrich wouldn't look too bad in a kimono even if he thinks it's a dress.

About the Hiroki thing, her parents didn't have any friends except the one guy from work shown in "Laughing Fit". Plus while they were packing the car and waiting for their mom to get done, there was no mentioning of him. The thing I was always taught in college when it comes to writing, the golden rule of writing is...unless it is written down, it doesn't exist. There was no direct discussion, no innuendos or sidetracked small talk about him. So they decided at the end of season one, let's give Yumi a little brother, so we can have more conflict in the series for conflict is always fun.
Fictional Conversation after the Episode "Routine:

Ulrich - "You couldn't wait, could you?"
Jeremy - "What are you talking about?"
*Ulrich grabs and lifts Jeremy by his collar.
Ulrich - "I was this close to tasting her porcelain lips. We weren't in any danger, but noooo! You had to return to the past anyway!"
*Jeremy sniffles as Aelita appears on screen and rolls her eyes
Aelita - Ulrich, put him down.

I was reading some of the stuff you guys were talking about how Yumi and Ulrich are depcited in fan fictions, and I have to say, it blew my mind. Yumi the "tortured" one? Ulrich emo? How in the world did these people come to those conclusions? Both Ulrich and Yumi are strong, strong-willed, passionate and profound people. That's what makes their caring relationship and mutual affection so much fun and nice to watch. I've written some stuff containing the characters (mostly crossover, non-serious metafictional stuff, some of which I might just share with you guys very soon) and not once did I think of presenting them as anything other than what they've really shown themselves to be.

About Hiroki, if he was supposed to have existed all along, that's good enough for me.

Yumi, I don't get the tortured thing. But Ulrich's character in S1 and parts of S2 was rather annoyingly emo, mostly over his feelings for Yumi. However, he does have a crappy father, so he could have had a crappy childhood too...

I don't know, and I don't care, mostly 'cause I don't like Yumi or Ulrich, so I only support the couple peripherally.

There is some truth in the descriptions. Both of them have family trouble of some sort and tent to be easier to anger than the other three, and more prone to negativity. However, it is not nearly as extreme as people seem to think. They both seem basically happy.

I agree, Yumi the "tortured" one doesn't fit. She is more of a repressed person due to her upbringing, she has a whole fury of emotions that she keeps inside and never lets out until she needs to let it out. Ulrich is never emo, he is quite typical for a teenage boy...I don't care about school, I hang with my friends, and I enjoy sports.

People twist them into whatever fashion they want for two possible reasons: First, they want to give some shock value to their stories. Second, because they use their own personal issues through the characters. My fanfics try to keep true to the characters and their actions.

Instead of treating fanfiction like "I think it would be cool if Yumi is *blah blah blah* and Ulrich is *blah blah blah*", treat it more like a what-if story. My own fanfiction "Brother and Sister" was "What if Derrick and Amelia came to Paris as part of their quest and happened to meet the Lyoko Warriors?"

My answer to that question became the entire story. Sorry about getting off-track, but I thought it important to clarify the fanfiction authors' depictions with my own experience.
