Dates and stuff....

Postby Lani » Wed Feb 15, 2006 12:44 am

Okay... before you shoot me for dorkiness, I just want to say that I was REALLY bored, mmkay? x3

Anyway, after learning that SVD took place in '06, I thought to myself, "Well, when did everything else take place?" And I got curious... So I started to map it all out on my school planner.

Building off when SVD took place and assuming that each episode is at least one week apart (unless they say otherwise), taking evidence from episodes (like parties/dances, tests, etc.), and if they actually mentioned a day, I managed to figure it all out. But most of it is just rough estimates, and I'd just LOVE to make it as accurate as possible... ~_^ *wink wink, nudge nudge*

Before I list everything, I have NO IDEA what the French schoolyear is like, and since I've not heard otherwise, I'm assuming it starts in the fall and ends in the late spring, just like here....

*deep breath* Here I go!
September 2nd - FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL; 2004
October 9th - XANA Awakens Part 1, Jeremie discoveres supercompy
October 10th - XANA Awakens Part 2
October 23rd - Teddygozilla

October 24th ~ November 4th - BREAK

Month of November - Seeing is Believing
December 18th - Holiday in the Fog

December 19th~January 2nd - BREAK; start 2005

Month of January - Log Book/Big Bug
Month of February - Cruel Dilemma

February 20th~March 6th - BREAK

Month of March - End of Take
Month of April - Satellite

April 24th~May 8th - BREAK

Month of May - The Girl of the Dreams (new term, new student. Then, since we never see her again, it's possible that she left after the end of school.)
Month of June - Plagued/Swarming Attack

July 3rd~September 1st - SUMMER BREAK!!

Month of September - Just in Time
October 8th - The Trap (Exactly a year since they met Aelita! It's not put on Sunday because they have no class on Sunday, and I do remember they had some tests)

October 23rd~November 3rd - BREAK

-- PENDING --

December 18th~January 2nd - BREAK; Begin 2006

--PENDING--
February 14th - Saint Valentine's Day
February 18th - Final Mix. Coincidentally, this falls on the day right before the end of the third term. o_o So I guess we're leaving this one as is.

February 19th~March 6th - BREAK

Sometime between Final Mix and The Chips are Down - Missing Link. I'm still in the dark about where this one should go... >>;
Week of March 7th - The Chips are Down. I find this interesting, because had Yumi moved back to Japan, she would have made it back in time to take the entrance exams for high school and start a brand-new school year for 10th grade, since the Japanese schoolyear ends in March and starts in April. Hmm...
March 11th - Marabounta
March 15th or 18th - Common Interest
Week of March 19th - Temptation
Week of March 26th - A Bad Turn
Week of April 2nd - Attack of the Zombies
Week of April 9th - Ultimatum
Week of April 16th - A Fine Mess/XANA's Kiss. I dunno, I kinda get the impression that they're close to each other...

April 23rd~May 8th - BREAK

Week of May 9th - Vertigo
Week of May 14th - Cold War
Week of May 21st - Deja Vu
Week of May 28th - Tip-Top Shape
Week of June 4th - Is Anybody Out there?
June 13th, 14th, and 15th - Franz Hopper. This makes Jeremie's birthday on June 14th.
June 24th and 25th - Contact. I figured after deactivating that tower in Sector 5, it took a lot out of Mr. XANA and left him dead for a while...
JUne 29th - Revelation
June 30th - The Key
July 2nd - END OF SCHOOL.

Woo. My food is getting cold. xD; I spent my entire schoolday fixing this, and my eraser got quite a workout!

The dates do go with the episodes, although the writers might have not had any time in mind.
Nice Job! ;)

xD Of course they probably didn't have any dates in mind... That's why I let my boredom organize date them for them! :3

Very very nice. :)

I thnk (if it's of any help) that Lycee Lakanal's website gave the term-times, I'll go look them up.

EDIT

Okay, Lakanal didn't help so here's general dates for high-school terms in the area from another website;

PLEASE REMEMBER: All these dates are for the 2005-2006 academic year, the 2004-2005 year might have been slightly different - again I'll go and look it up, but now I've got to dash to church!

---------------------------

TABLE ONE

START OF 2005-2006 ACADEMIC YEAR
2nd of September 2006

(September 2nd to October 22nd)

HOLIDAY (All Saints Day)
October 22nd to November 3rd

(November 3rd to December 17th)

HOLIDAY (Christmas)
December 17th to January 3rd

(January 3rd to Febuary 4th)

HOLIDAY (Winter)
Febuary 4th to Febuary20th

(Febuary 20th to April 8th)

HOLIDAY (Spring)
April 8th to April 24th

(April 24th - July 4th)

END OF ACADEMIC YEAR
4th of July 2006 - this date I find amusing, if it lines up with the events of The Key.

-------------------------------

As you can see there's a problem - the kids were at school on Valentine's day when they SHOULD have been on Holiday.

Looking further I discovered that due to changes in the schooling system, the school year is being lenthened by 12 days. The Parisen area has thus modified it's academic year to this;

2ND SEPTEMBER 2005 - 7TH JULY 2006

This reclaims three of the twelve days required. If we cut the remaining nine from the winter holiday it is shortened to a week and thus term resarts on Febuary 11th.

Therefore Kadic's Calender would look like this, assuming I've interpreted everything right;

TERM 1.
Sept 2nd - Oct 22

TERM 2.
Nov 3rd - Dec 17th

TERM 3.
Jan 3rd - Feb 4th

TERM 4.
Feb 11th - April 8th

TERM 5.
April 24th - July 7th

Hope this helps and remember, it's just guesswork based on the calenders, which apparently vary from locality to localty. This seems to work though.

Woohoo! Thanks so much, TB3! :D That helps a lot! I'll write down the term dates then re-figure the um... events. xDD

This also means that Jeremie's birthday is not on the 31st of May. xD; Belpois Day is gonna bet later~

Hey Lani! :) Glad I could help - please remember though the bit about shortening the holiday is guesswork on my part so might be wrong.

As for the 2004/2005 year here's the offical dates straight from the French Ministry of Education Website.

START OF ACADEMIC YEAR 2004/2005
September 2nd 2004

(Sept 2nd - Oct 23rd)

HOLIDAY: ALL SAINTS DAY
(Oct 23rd - Nov 4th)

(Nov 4th - Dec 18th)

HOLIDAY: CHRISTMAS
(Dec 18th - Jan 3rd)

(Jan 3rd - Feb 19th)

HOLIDAY: WINTER
(Feb 19th - Mar 7th)

(March 7th - April 23rd)

HOLIDAY: SPRING
(April 23rd - May 9th)

(May 9th - July 2nd)

END OF ACADEMIC YEAR:
July 2nd 2005

I think these dates can be taken as cannon since they came before the shake-up in the schooling system - other dates could be judged from exam documentation, but I don't think we've ever seen mention of national exams in the show, only internal ones.

Oh, and if it's of any interest, Lakanal had a 'Student Concert' on January 27th - you could use this as a base for an event if you like but it's a tenuous link at best.

Aren't the spring and winter holidays split up by zones, depending on the location of the school you're in?

Here are the times for winter and spring breaks for 2005-2006 school year, according to zone.

ZONE A: Caen, Clermont-Ferrand, Grenoble, Lyon, Montpellier, Nancy-Metz, Nantes, Rennes, Toulouse

Winter: 2/18/06 - 3/6/06 Spring: 4/22/06 - 5/9/06

ZONE B: Aix-Marseilles, Amiens, Besancon, Dijon, Lille, Limoges, Nice, Orleans-Turns, Poitiers, Rheims, Rouen, Strasbourg

Winter: 2/11/06 - 2/27/06 Spring: 4/15/06 - 5/02/06

ZONE C: Bordeaux, Creteil, Paris, Versailles

Winter: 2/04/06 - 2/20/06 Spring: 4/8/06 - 4/20/06

Where exactly is Kadic again?

The charts you posted are the charts I referenced.

To clarify, Kadic is in zone C, however within each zone there are variations (the Ministry website even admits it hasn't been able to standardise everything) - Versailles for example has now adopted a 4-day school week, wheras Paris (and thus Kadic), is retaining the current school week emulated in the show - only Sunday as a full day off, and half days on Wednesday and Saturday.

For Lani I've corrected a mistake I made - I had Kadic's 5th term starting on the same day the 4th ended - these are now fixed. Sorry if you got confused.

Hmm... nice touch with the French school dates, guys. (Well... I don't want to speak for Lani but yeah.)

TECHNICALLY, Lycée et Collège Lakanal is located in Sceaux, which isn't all that far from Boulogne-Billancourt and Paris, but.. I like correcting people on that. :P

And.. a satellite image capture. Because I can.

Lycée et Collège Lakanal, aka "Kadic Academy"

It is a bit of a ways from Boulogne. Let's see... About 4.54 miles, measuring from a starting point of the bridge to the factory on Ile Seguin.

Distance

Not all THAT far away. It probably doesn't matter in the slightest, but it's just trivia.

Yup - that would probably put it in another schooling region to Kadic in Billancourt and thus change the dates, I took that into account though (hope I don't sound like I'm bragging!).

Heh - that tunnel from the school to Ile. Seguin must be pretty long!

For some reason, I doubt they have to travel that far. If they really rush the trip from the school to the factory, it might take them maybe 10-15 minutes. In Code: Earth, the gang in the tower thought it was odd that it took Jeremie 45 mins to get back to the school and get the cd and then come back. So if my guess is right, a round trip could be may 20-30 mins.

As for the time line, if our assumption is true that this all takes place inside a single school term, we have a few benchmarks. We know Holiday in the Fog would probably take place on All Saints Day holiday, seeing as its a week long vacation. Valentine's Day of course would be February 14th the following year. I'd place Final Mix around April 8th, seeing as it was finals, so I'd guess that that would mark end of term finals. And The Key takes place around July 7th, as it was the end of the year dance. That actually puts them in a good position for the 3rd Season. Its supposed to be a transitional period to Season 4, and summer is a transition from 1 year to the next.

Now if I were venture to make guesses on the rest of them, I'd put Teddygozilla closer to the end of term 1. The last 2 dances occurred at the end of terms, so it might be logical to hold the dance around the end of the 1st term as well. Rock Bottom? takes place during a long weekend. Any 3 day weekends happen after All Saint's Day? Other than that, I can't find anything that conclusively points to any particular date.

Nice.

And yes, in CL, it is a fact that Kadic and the Factory are a lot closer together than they are in real life. (Thus befuddling the notion of "school district" even further.. :arg: )

Relative Distance from the school to the factory on the show

Map of same area in real life

As you can see, they're not exactly dead-on. So that explains their confusion-- it probably takes about 5 minutes, more or less, to get there on the show. Depending of course on how fast they're going when they go HYAAAA! and the accurateness of that map...

As far as your date suggestions/revisions... I don't see anything wrong with them, but again we don't have anything official to build off of so it's all guesswork right now.

Again... thanks guys! xD;

To put that together took me about a week and a half. Of course, it would have taken a much shorter time if I hadn't done it during school hours.

I find it REALLY interesting that they have half-days on Wednesdays... and that'll help out a lot :O

Right now I'm about to edit my first post with the dates TB3 provided, and there are some pretty interesting stuff :O

And of course... Still open to suggestions as to when they are xD;

I'd push Holiday in the Fog a bit further forward. Remember, it was a week of vacation, not a short 3 day long weekend, which would put it at All Saint's Day. Again, I feel Teddygozilla is around the the end of the first term, the 2nd day of class seems to soon for a prom. Actually, all my recommendations for dates are in my previous post if you want to give that a going over.

Hmm...I agree with Animenologist that the dates need to be tweaked a bit - having 'Holiday in the fog' so close to the start of terms seems like poor term planning on Kadic's part - maybe if it was moved up to All Saint's Week.

Good stuff with Final Mix etc though! I reckon if we can finalise it we could possibly even get it canonised! Fingers crossed, :)
