What X.A.N.A. Stands For.

Postby Demonkiller » Mon Feb 27, 2006 1:24 am

Thanks to the internet, I found what X.A.N.A. stands for. It stands for EXtensible Applications Native Approach. Now I can settle all the arguments about what X.A.N.A. stands for (If there were any). If this is spam, I'm totally sorry, but I think this needed to be said.

Hmm...are you referring to this?

It's a nice concept that XANA is named after this freeware, and that his name does mean Extensible Applications Native Approach, but I'm sorry to say it's not 100% certain..

1. This XANA software was developed in 1999, Franz states he built XANA in 1994.
2. The application of this software is contrary to XANA's purpose as stated in the show.
3. We've decided that until the show actually gives a canon definition of 'XANA', all other theories on his name are moot.

Sorry if I sound like a hard@$$ - that's just what sprang to mind when I read this post - hope I havn't hurt your feelings.

EDIT: That does not mean that the writers might not have named XANA after this software - it's a cool name (XANA) and similar to the name of the virtual world (XANADU) in Garage Kids, the CL Marketing Promo.

However in the context of the show it is unlikely to be an anagram with the same meaning.

Exactly what I was talking about, it would make sense. If that program got a virus and turned into XANA from Code Lyoko and lived inside a super computer, you'd have, well… XANA.

You still miss the point that XANA the Villain was developed five years before the XANA-Software was even conceived.

Also XANA the Villain was created to destroy external networks and is clearly an Artificial Intelligence - no virus could turn a piece of commercial system application software into THAT!

Hope again that I don't sound too mean! :)

Not mean, just raised an excellent point. I read on wikipedia that Xana is the name of a goddess in some mythology I can't remember the name of. Also, XANA is a group that helps Antefilms with production. That probably where they got the name for XANA, and they probably didn't think of anything for the definition of the acronym.

If someone creates a virus that has artificial intelligence, and it attacks that program in general, you would have a form of XANA on your hands. Sadly, no virus like that exists… yet… :devil2:

This goddes?

Hmm...I always though XANA was just a nod to XANADU and though it SHOULD have a meaning maybe even Moonscoop doesn't know it.

My only other point is that the name of Thantos, the Greek god of death, is pronounced XANA-tos. A decieving, slightly villanous character with the name David Xantos also featured in the cartoon Gargoyles.

We already have several threads that discuss this. Just a general reminder to all, please please please use the search feature before creating a new topic. Chances are there is already a thread for it just a page or two behind the first one. Thank you. ^_^

Locking. :)
