Is Yumi really gothic?

Postby Akito » Fri Mar 10, 2006 5:35 pm

Ever since I became a CL fan, I've been hearing many fan debates. One I thought would really make an interesting topic is as to why Yumi wears black. Many times, I've heard CL fans saying Yumi was gothic, others saying different reasons... like because her favorite color is pink (don't ask). So who is right? Is Yumi a goth, or does she just plain love black.

My review:

Though she does wear gothic colors, I needn't emphasize that doesn't mean she's gothic. I don't believe that she is goth, she just loves black. I mean, her hair is black, her eyes are black. Who doesn't agree that she likes black?

One other factor also makes a forceful point. Note the fact that she doesn't even act goth. My brother is goth, just like his friends and they, and I know what is goth and what is not. Could they just be mistaking Code: LYOKO for the popular show on Nick, Danny Phantom (Danny is to Odd and Ulrich, Sam is to Yumi, Tucker is to Jeremy, and... who is Aelita)? Yumi is a bit too cheerful to be a goth.

Lastly, take a look at her room. Not very gothic, is it? So overall, I think that Yumi is NOT gothic, just... a black fan.

What do you guys think?

If any stereotype had to fit her, I'd say a rocker type person. Certainly not goth.

Yeah she's not the goth type. She's more punk if you ask me. I'm as you would say goth and Yumi doesn't fit the line of it.

I looked at her Gym outfit and it has some pink on it....so she can't be gothy. And she is too cheerful to be one. SO I don't know. (Oh by the way all of the characters have black eyes, (but Aelita sort of doesn't and on Lyoko Ulrich has brown eyes....)

Yeah, I don't think she really is. Wearing black doesn't make you gothic.

Gah that would be weird if she was. A little too cheery of a vampire.

Yumi almost has a split personality.

Most of the time she has got the depressive wow is me attitude down.
Which to me says Goth.

Other times especially on Lyoko or at the factory she seems almost cheerful.

Her outfits show the same thing.
All black on Earth bright kimono on Lyoko.

Yumi's definitely not Goth. She wears a pink bra and red panties. And not enough eyeliner (not that any of the CL people wear eyeliner, but there's your point).

I agree with Numbuh; she's more the punk type if anything.

Goth? Definite no.

Black is cool. It's the new black. Goes with everything. Never outta style.

You're having a mere concept of a trendy Goth, Supersonic Master. Obviously, Yumi isn't a Goth... not even a trendy Goth.

Dang, I miss seeing threads like this... haven't seen a "Is Yumi goth?" thread in a long while...

Yumi being a goth is...hard to believe, though her mood swings could emphatize that, they also show that she's a teenager; also, teenage goths are...laughable, Yumi isn't.

btw, a text on goths a friend asked me to post here

Goths...now these guys are a blast...

The poser goth (about 60-70% of the whole scene) basically wear black and shout out stuff bout the necronomicon or Stephen king or things of the sort...they think they should become vampires for no apparent reason, have little or no knowledge of real witchcraft and think they can kill out of the spur of the moment...these guys deserve a swift kick in the testicles (or ovaries whichever's the case).

The real goths usually come from a rich background and a rich-boy history...when maturity came it struck them and well...they saw everything in a new light...

They've noticed and analyzed society...and discovered in it a monster that feeds off ignorance like if it was a drug...

Goths diverge from this part, some taking refuge in their own world, hiding...some convert this world, from the inmplicit to the explicit, giving it demons and the such...others notice how useless it is to change it, and simply step outside...seeing everything but refusing to participate...the last...the most useless of all...simply scream out shouts of anger and rage at the world...

why they wear black is a mystery....though it could be traced to the origins of the movement, the 80's rebels...again, that's one of the hardest to explain factors...which I'll simply add this

In society...glittering whites and pastel colors reflect the truth and diverge it...while obsucure colors abosrb it...

Society is white...forever seeing a mutated truth about itself...goths are black...forever seeing the truth...

The pagan goth seeks refuge in nature...taking it as mentor and guadian against this world

The satanic goth simply shuns away and hopes to hurt via cowardly acts...

The major downfall of the goth society is their constant wish to remain secluded and surrounded by their own...mocking those that walk another path....

I nice analogy, also it pins nicely the air of aloofness many goths seem to have - annoying *bleeps* - if you can't change th world, go with the flow and enjoy it!

Yumi is more like one of those wannabe goth/emo people. Seem probably, but she's a girl so I'm not sure it really counts.

Goth-Light. Diet Soda version of Goth.

Just one calorie! Not even enough!

Ahh I know people like this, Yumi matches up with them pretty well. BTW, I'd say she was a chick that just liked Black but a few of her other outfitts have made me weary of that.

Plus Ulrich is Emo, so they go together lol

xDD emo Ulrich...

Anyway, I don't think Yumi's goth at all... I know tons of people who like to wear a lot of black (meee :D) and they're as bouncy as super balls.... Black may as well just be her favorite color ^^

Totally right on that. My younger brother used to wear black but he was, and still is, a really sugar high kid, he always insisted that his favorite color was black (despite the fact our older brother claims that black and white aren't real colors).

I agree with all of you that Yumi is not goth, as I've already mentioned.

You may also note that she is the lead singer on a "classic rock" band.

I know I've been posting the heck outta this thread but I like it a lot.

When I first started watching CL I thought that Yumi was a goth. Hence I was more foolish then. But as I started to learn more about the characters I found out that Yumi wasn't gothic and indeed she was more punk. This was all before I found out there was a such thing called Emo. Yes I was a fool back then.
Now that I see it the way she acts is more punk/emo *God I hate that word!* then goth. So that's my story of my past self being a fool in thinking she was a goth. *bows*

I'd say Yumi is more of a rocker since she's the lead singer of a so-called "rock" band, as some of you have said.
