It's all very scientifical. |D

No - Ulrich has backbone and self-resolve. He fights because he thinks it's the right thing to do. Shinji is described as having so little self-worth he can't even take his own life, and only pilots the va because he was told to, same with playing his cello.

Well, not only that, but he pilots for affection and praise from others, mainly his dad. We do not have much parental conflict in CL to deal with, so motivations are different for fighting.
If anything, Sissi and Asuka are similar. They can be loud, annoying, and beautiful and not ashamed to flaunt it, but they are both insecure on the inside and hate their shortcomings.

I don't think Code Lyoko was influenced by Evangelion. I think the characters involved and the themes

Plus, there's also a sub-plot of friends banding together to free a character who's been imprisoned in the World. There are monsters in DotHack that strongly resemble CL ones (the Guardians...which have the same name and look almost exactly the same in both shows), and if you look at the way a character "logs in" to the World in .Hack//Sign, and the way the CL characters "scan into" Lyoko...you'll notice they both use a very similar "materialization ring" imagery.

Interestingly I was flicking through a copy of 'Animation Insider' the other day and was a bit surprised to find a picture of Aelita in the 'Question/Answer' section - the person was asking if CL was a cheap rip-off of Hack//Sign - the reply was that both shows tie into imagery of combat in virtual realities which dates back to the movie Tron.
What surprised me was that the person replying then went on to point out the connections to the movie 'Aelita, Queen of Mars' - I think we have a closet fan here...
