I know I am about the last person to watch "The Key" but it made me think about something. Why did Xana wait until season 2 to try to take Aelita's memories wouldn't it have been easier to take them when she was trapped on Lyoko.

It's because he thought she would always stay on Lyoko... and when she went free Xana needed her to stay until the Sychpizoa was made... so he took half of her keys.

That's just my answer.

Xana knew that Aelita wouldnt go too far while a fragment of her was missing, so it was the perfect plan to keep her nearby for the moment. Stealing Aelita's memories=Aelita bound to Lyoko until the time came for Xana to be free.

Well...her being human before going into lyoko does give her character a bit of a history, some character personality, and maybe an axe to grind while shes at it.

XANA may have been trying to kill Aelita in S1 because he knew she couldn't leave, but was the only one to fully stop his attacks on earth... so no Aelita meant world domination with in the compy.

In season 2, when Aelita can hop back and forth between earth and Lyoko, XANA thinks this is bad because if they find her fragment quickly enough, she'll be free of the compy and then shut him off... so he tries to take they keys so he too can also get out of the supercompy... :O

Here's something I wrote up a while ago, in LTT, concerning the thought. Its one of our theories concerning XANA's psychology, if you can call it that.

I also wanted to state this about XANA's thinking. I think that for most of Season 1, XANA was fairly confident that he was already in the pinnacle state of existence. He was integrated with the world's most powerful supercomputer that is getting stronger day by day and constantly evolving. And having half the keys already gave him near dominance of Lyoko and its resources, enough to wage war from safety. This is why throughout the entirety of Season 1, Aelita was treated as an enemy that must be destroyed and an annoyance to his rule since she was the only one who stood up to XANA's power and had little to no disregard for her life. Only reason he doesn't pursue her intensely is to be rid of the kids who hold the ultimate trump card over him first.

I would think Code: Earth is the first time XANA understood his mortality. It was probably around that time when XANA recognized that the kids are slowly gaining ground on him and that's when he probably planned his escape from the supercomputer. If he really seeked Aelita's keys and freedom from the computer beforehand, XANA was pretty reckless with Aelita's life, not to mention that it took 1.5 years before XANA brought out the Scipizoa again, when he could of done it much sooner and had the advantage of Aelita being permanently on Lyoko as well as Aelita not being able to actively get into contact with the gang at every moment in the day.

simple. in season one X.A.N.A never thought that matieralizing aelita would happen. he was probably laughing in his 5th sector. then they matierlized her he was like oh s---. then he decided if aelita was matierlized so easily why cant he be.

I would think that XANA already knew how to materialize before Aelita was. He did afterall, materialize the fake Yumi in Image Problem and the Kankrelats and Krabes afterwards. If he had the idea or intention of materializing himself from the get go, he already had the knowledge and more than enough opportunities. So with that train of thought, XANA only thought that a needed course of action after Aelita was virtualized, and beforehand was unnecessary.

I don't think so if she dies I think her data would be lost that why Xana had to take them not just kill her. there were time when xana saved her, if what you say is ture he could have let her die.

Remember (don't know the name) the episode where Yumi's devirtualized, Ulrich's on the other side of an ice wall, Odd's on her side but his legs are frozen and Aelita's being controlled by XANA? Odd had to shoot Aelita with Lazer Arrows to get the Schithizoa (spelling?) to drop her. So yeah, if she dies her memories are lost...

I don't know how on-topic this is, but it seems related.

Why does XANA have his monsters shoot to kill at Aelita? Is he sitting there in Sector 5 saying to himself "yeah, because I know they won't just turn the computer off when their friend who lives in it is dead, and turning it off is their only way to stop me anyway." I mean, SERIOUSLY. You'd think that through all of season one, Aelita should just be able to calmly saunter up to the tower while the monsters gave her dirty looks.
