Code Lyoko Exhibition - CL.net has the scoop!

Postby TB3 » Fri Oct 20, 2006 9:00 am

Congratulations to Codelyoko.net - those brilliant people recently attended an exhibition of CL art in Paris, and kindly photographed everything of worth - check it out at their site.

Of note as well were the bits of info availible at the exhibition: i.e in Garage Kids Ulrich was 'Ulrick', and that the characters were developed from the personalities of the creators - apparently there's a lot of GK Creator Tania Palumbo in Yumi.

Of equal worth is concept art of the original four sectors showing them as lusher, richer and more detailed (I doubt they were ever animated that way) - curiously they are all labelled Garage Kids, implying that title may have been used until quite late in the production.

Most interesting for me though, is the inspiration for some of the sectors - according to the exhibition, the Forest sector was inspired by forests of Hayao Miyazaki's anime masterpiece 'Princess Mononoke'.

More surprisingly though was that the Mountain Sector is based off Disney! Specifically the movie of 'Mulan', as well as some 'Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon'.

Here's some shots I found of each:

The Forests of Miyazaki, inspiration for our beloved Forest

(interestingly this adds credibility to the fan-theory that Delmas's design is a nod to Miyazaki)

The mountains of Mulan - note the very familar shapes and the way they are shrouded in mist - why didn't we notice this before!? :P

The Region used for Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon - I swear we saw a mountain like this in last night's episode

To see the full story (and some fascinating art) - head over to codelyoko.net and look in the 'News' section of the French Page :)

MERCI CL.NET! :thumbs up:

That's pretty cool ^^ I love getting the chance to see production artwork like that ^^ I only wish that pic of Aelita, on her sheet, of her waving over her shoulder was clearer :\

YAY! Princess Mononoke!

And that is so cool how they used all those great movies as inspiration for the sectors.

Yes, TB3 says 'News section of the French page' so of COURSE I'm going to look at the English section. :pbthbb:

Because of CL.net's strucure, every page appears as www.codelyoko.net/FRA in the url bar, so sorry, can't help you here.

In the menu bar the header is 'News et Historique sur Code Lyoko' - click there and then scroll down, you can't miss it.

I like the hand-drawn versions of their Lyoko forms. Those were pretty cool!

Err, yes, you can. Go to the page in question. Right click on the right-hand side of the page in a blank space. Then depending on your browser:

Firefox - Click "This Frame -> Frame Info", then copy the URL it says in the popup window.

Internet Explorer - Click "Properties", then copy the URL it says in the popup window.

Then paste it here.

Ah interesting, I suspected MoonScoop would have Miyasaki geeks, glad to know they're paying respect to the man and did MoonScoop ever admit that they like Horror films by any chance? Because in End of Take and Attack of the Zombies, those episodes seem to be inspired by Alien and the zombie George A. Romero films.

:O~

Simply fantastic.

*sits and admires*

The exhibition poster's kinda funny, though. One side is Garage Kids, looking really dark and serious, then BEEPCODELYOKOHYPERNESSCOLOURS on the other.

Poofy pants Ulrich actually looks better NOT in 3D. xD;; Go fig.

I need to get CL merchandise. Having the Tokyopop cinemanga just isn't enough.

8DD SOPRETTY.

Dear CL.net,

You rock.

Love,
Lani <3

HAHAH I SEE THOMAS JOVILET 8D

xDD Odd's underwear is orange/red! Very VERY useful information. And Jeremie's is red. And they spell his name, "Jeremy"... how interesting. Eh, I stick with Jeremie, cause it looks prettier :P Ulrich has green boxers... no surprise.

And he looks REALLY REALLY hot in that one picture where he's like... karate-posing, next to the line drawing of him with his hands in his pocket.

Haha, Yumi's classic red underwear and pink sports bra :P

OH FOREST SECTOR. I MISS YOU. PLEASE COME BACK. And you are GORGEOUS.

OMG HAY I SAW TWO OF THOSE PICTURES ON DA :OOOO

Do I spy with my little eyes... PLUSHIES?! Nowai. Omg haha I have that Odd figurine.

Ahh that was so cool. And excuse my LOTS AND LOTS OF CAPS. xDD; Wish I coulda been there...

PLUSHIES???

*looks*

KRABE?!? ODD?!?! WHERE'S MY KANKRELAT?! I WANNA ME MUNNY BACK. ;__;

I'm kidding. I'm still excited.

The pictures are all so cute...I am giggling like a crazed child here. Ulrich's parachute pants should've been in the prequel.

...why, is that Thomas Jovliet or whoever he is I spy? Yes, I think I do...

Gonna go through the rest. Bye.

The coolest part, as somebody noted, was the 2d renderings of the Lyoko forms. I'd like to see more of that really, I think.

I wonder if the show would have played the same if the whole thing were 2d animated, even when they were on Lyoko, could it still have maintained a duality like it does now?

Holy cow!! That's my fanart hanging up there! In that second link...on the left side just under the fan pic of Odd, Yumi, and Jeremie from "End of Take". The little one. ^^

That's my piece Train Ride. I did that for SamBlob a ways back. Wowie! That's awesome! They must have got it from CodeLyoko.com...since that's where I entered it in one of the fanart contests (and won). ^^ Eeee!!! That totally makes my day! ^.^
