this may be a stupid question but what happens in garage kids? i watched clips on youtube and yumi saved ulrich with powers in the real world, can they do that? i know what goes on in the episodes, but id like to know how it started cause teddygodzilla dosent count as a "beggining" to a series, there was no starting point.

In the original GK, Yumi had tele-kinesis powers. So, she saved Jeremie from falling off a building.

Just look on Youtube for the CL prequel to see where it all began.

You have to remember that Garage Kids doesn't count as the 'start' of CL, that's where the S3 Prequel comes in. The continuality is each is different.

Like MakeYourself said, in Garage Kids the team retained their powers in reality - according to the sales pitch at the time, Yumi had telekinesis and Ulrich could 'displace himself at the speed of light' (beats head into wall). Quite what Odd could do was never said.

The part about the powers was dropped in order to more clearly delineate between 'reality' and 'virtuality' - it now seems though that S4 is moving back towards this idea, suggesting the lines between Lyoko and Reality are beginning to blur, figuritively if not literally.

Yes - GK was five minutes long and if it had developed into the actual show, instead of being tweaked and modified along the way, would probably have been very different from CL.

For example, here's a picture of the proposed cast.

Garage Kids Characters

As can be seen, outside of the core cast the only familiar faces are Milly and Tamiya - Aelita was not a character and it was believed that in her absence, Jeremie and Milly would develop a relationship.

EDIT:

Wait a minute (looks at picture again) does that kid in front of Odd look like his design could have evolved into Hiroki's friend Joey (from 'The Pretender') - he has similar features despite being a lot shorter, and those anime-cheek blushes.

Also, Garage Kids was, in some ways, darker then CL as we know it today.

There was a Lyoko-type place, but it was called Xanadu, which I've heard means "Beautiful Place." Also, the only monsters that could be seen were massive shadow-beasts. Ulrich was wearing what have almost universally been known as "Parachute Pants," on Xanadu. Also, his saber had to charge up before it could be used, and was made of Ones and Zeroes.

Also, in my opinion, Xanadu looks cooler then Lyoko. With Lyoko, each sector has only one type of environmental feature. With Xanadu, there werer forest-covered mountains, rivers, and huge trees. The towers were different pretty much only in size: they were big as skyscrapers.

There's actually a Garage Kids/Code: Lyoko Crossover on the fanfiction section, if you'd like to read it.
