Code: Lyoko - the Anime? (Not really ;) )

Postby TB3 » Wed Jan 31, 2007 12:11 am

As we all know, CL is getting a Japanese release, a very rare honour.

However, what if things went...a little different.

What if Code: Lyoko got remade as an anime, tailored to Japanese audiences?

For an example of the radical changes possible, just consider what happened when Powerpuff Girls got remade as an anime...

Powerpuff Girls Z

So, if PPG turned into the (admittedly endearingly cute) PPGZ - what transformation would CL go through.

One change I can forsee - instead of having three scanning chambers we have one very big machine that acts more like a portal to Lyoko.

Why?

Because that means time can be cut down on Scan sequences and instead spent this way:

The kids go through the 'scanner/portal' and arrive on Lyoko as normal humans - and then they go through a big, fancy, stereotypical Henshin Transformation Sequence! :P

And what else - Big Foreheads AND Big Eyes? Horribly pronounced names in 'Engrish' or 'Flench?' Or why not relocate the whole thing to Japan and hide the complex under Tokyo Tower? :P

This thread is for a bit of wild speculation and imagination - have fun. :)

I doubt they will change the whole context of the show.
Or they won't go through the whole reanimation process to fit them, as it hasn't been done for all its other dubs.

I'm not suggesting something like Moonscoop making it but 'different' - I'm talking about a Japanese studio buying the license and then running havok with it! :P

And I totally wouldn't put it past them to do that. Give it a couple years, and if they deem the franchise popular enough (and "mold-able" enough to the anime style...which it is ^^ )...I could definitely see that happening...although I think they'd buffer off of Garage Kids more, if not for the atmosphere, then for the real world powers and the drama that could stem from that. ;)

Just my thoughts though. :)

If that were to happen I can imagine a lonely fan praying that the amount of fan service in the series would increase by 200%

Bad dubbing, fanfictions, the yelling out of attacks, and of course, everything transforms.

This reminds me of a Game thread long past...

But I think if it was an anime, they'd all be renamed in Japanese. Except for Yumi, who doesn't need it. (And, possibly, at least one character designated as a 'foreigner'. Most likely Ulrich.)

And it's not like there isn't quite a bit of eerie fanservice already, so I mean, yeehaw.

But Lyoko already has all of thos- oh wait, I see what you did there. haha.

Anyway, gratuitous anime features you say? I think all I need say is 'XANA as a bishounen' (and hope I spelled it right.)

Hmm - I'd imagine Ulrich being Japanese (Samurai Outfit) - I mean, doesn't Odd just scream 'Foreigner!' :P

Lani...omg - the kids in Japanese school outfits, lolzors yes!...and why do I keep seeing Yumi as a Shrine Maiden? :umm:

On other notes, last night while in the mood I reimagined the setting of the factory for the more epic scale that Japan seems to envision their shows.

Complex, Plan View

Complex, Side View

Basically we still have the main theme of a complex hidden under a factory that's either on an island or on the shoreline of the sea. However the whole thing is bigger, implying that Lyoko was built by many and not just one.

Entering through the elevator the first thing seen is a massive atrium - illuminated walkways in the floor form the Eye of Lyoko and in the centre is the relocated holosphere, almost like a display.

Two pathways lead away to the scanner and supercomputer rooms. Overlooking them is a giant control room, where many abandoned workstations hum and click in the darkness, awaiting a user. There's also some couches and a water cooler in the control room and underneath toilets and a small kitchenette area for the comfort of the Project Staff, which the kids have commandeered.

On the lowest level is space for support machinery and the anciallaries rooms, containing the memory banks for the supercomputer and other essential systems - they are accessed via a ladder and trapdoor in the control room.

At the front of the control room is the main screen, but behind it is a secret passage, only discovered when the team discover a key inside a stuffed doll (Pucku-kun ;) ) - the key when turned in a slot on the workstation causes the main screen to rise up, and behind it is a tunnel leading to the dark secret that powers Lyoko, a Nuclear Pile (and this time, it IS Uranium), and another tunnel, that passes through an old airlock, it's doors frozen open, and leads into the darkness...

--------

The idea behind this was to combine Garage Kids with CL, and then apply a sort of 'clubhouse' feel - somewhere where the kids come to crash and hangout - it also deepens the mystery of Lyoko, because now it's not just a single creator who's vanished, but an entire team of twenty or so people. Where did they go? Even I don't know :P

And after all is said and done, I way prefer what we have in the show to this deranged day-dream (I need to lay off the late-night snacks). :)

Aelita-Ojosama

This art-style is from Ken Akamatsu, creator of manga like AI Love You (about an AI being materialised to reality as a young woman :P ), Love Hina and Negima.

I'll do some more within the next few days.

Woah. CL as anime. o___O; (Is it just me or didn't we have a thread discussing that a while back...?)

Nice drawings, TB3! ^-^

Yes the lab would definitely be moved under Tokyo Tower. And they would take Chinese instead of Italian. And um. Jim could actually go SEE some Sumo instead of reading about it in magazines. xD;;

If all they're doing is dub, then... probably just the names will be changed. (I'd like to see how they pull France off as being Japan as they tried to do with America...)

I had the weirdest idea for how to dress Yumi like a tomboy but in Japanese uniform.

Okay, so she wears the fuku (sailor blouse) like the other girls, but then wears a boy's suit-jacket and trousers with it - I doodled out a sketch and it looked quite good. For some reason I see her with dark blue/purple hair.

Odd I saw in normal uniform but with no tie and the jacket tied round his waist - and re-imagined his hair as blone with purple-dyed tips.

Ulrich's also in uniform but with the tie worn loose and the shirt untucked.

And for Jeremie I thought he'd wear a pressed shirt and perfectly done tie, but with no jacket.

Thoughts?
