Most Overrated Characther

Postby MY85 » Thu May 31, 2007 1:59 pm

Isn't there always somebody in Code Lyoko that gets more praise than he/she deserves it? Don't you feel that there's a characther that isn't the big deal as many fans say he/she is? Vote on the poll to pick the most overrated characther from the Code Lyoko show.

I'll put down who I voted for later. Let's hope this sparks discussion.

Some people are. I, myself, am just lazy. That's why this post is gonna be so short.

If you want my opinion, I think Aelita and Ulrich are the most overrated. Ulrich seems to have fangirls, and is quite the god-moder over in Lyoko. (More in the end in season two)

As for Aelita, I think it's the amount of people who fan over her. Just take a look at the CL freestylin' thread in BKO.

I voted for Odd... he's got his share of fangirls. What the hell can Odd do besides talking crap, say a load of corny stuff and shoot arrows? The writers play Odd as too much of an attention whore, really.

I except that if this thread gets activity, one of the team members will get the most amount of votes. But the fangirls will vote for the villians. Image

I agree, though I also think Sissi is overrated as well.

I couldn't decide between the main five. =D They all get lots of praise, while the rest are just shifted, a little bit, over that way...(I noticed that in the underrated thread, their votes are at a flat zero. as opposed to an inflated zero)

I voted Aelita, just to vote.

I picked Ulrich because a lot of times in episodes it's always 'Ulrich it's all up to you' or 'Ulrich has to .... or XANA wins'. He also seems quite over powered since he's got three (at least I think it's three) powers while Yumi, Odd and Aelita have one.

To be honest I practically jumped for joy when he was the first one devirtualized in 'William Returns'.

I voted other - why? Because XANA is the most overrated character. Forget not even being a physical entity until he took over William, but until that moment all of XANA's plans failed. As a bad guy, he is very predictable, and sends minions (monsters) out to do his bidding most of the time. His stock rose with the conclusion of season three, but I still consider XANA a run-of-the-mill villian.

What about when he escaped the supercomputer? But I do agree with you, the fact that most of his plans fail diminishes his value as a villain. Although many shows do that with their own villains... I still think he's a good one because he gives the group a hard time and has managed to stay around for far longer than they had initially imagined (and is the reason Jeremie hasn't slept well in months, poor guy). All things considered... I also think Xana is the most overrated character. I have very high expectations for him in this season though.

It's a shame somebody got to the whole 'Ulrich = god mode' thing before I could. He's easily my vote for most overrated through, due in no small part to his over-ability especially in earlier seasons. S3 tried to spice things up a bit with Yumi turning him down somewhat and his Father actually appearing to cause conflict but to be honest his story is still the most linear, obvious and boring. Jeremie is an equally transparent character for example, but his story is actually the real saga of Lyoko and contains all the best twists and turns when he finds out things like Aelita's past. Ulrich is just along for the ride and his personal drama is very little except obvious plot complication.

Yet somehow the fangirls love him. This is not so much surprsing as sigh-inducing though, I suppose.

It also didn't stop him from being my favorite character to play in CLDS, A-X-A combo FTW.

Most Overrated Character

Postby Stargate » Wed Jun 06, 2007 6:41 am

Ulrich for me.

Everyone just thinks he's such a great warrior and everything. Okay, he's good at fighting, but in my mind not as much as anybody else. And to me he always seems like a brat at times, but that's just my opinion.

Odd ranks a close second, much as I like his character.

Ulrich.

Really, he is the most overrated character ever. All he does is angst about how he wants Yumi and how she doesn't share her feelings.

The second most overrated character in CL history would probably be... Sam. She makes a total of two appearances, and every fanfic writer and their grandma tries to create a backstory for her.

As some of my colleagues have stated, Ulrich is the most overrated character. He has three powers, all the others have one. Also, people depend on him too much (no wonder he has such bad grades. Pressure.) And he's always so sulky and emo-ish. Just because every show needs drama.

Odd. He may be the favorite character for a lot of people, but I don't really see why; he may tell a good joke every now and then, but what is really so great about him?

As for the couple that I think is most overrated...Ulrich and Yumi, not really too much of a reason I can give, though...

I finally broke down and said Odd. Please don't hate me, Matt  . I love Odd to death. He is my second favorite character, after Jeremie. He has a great personality and is easily the most likable, but he is too one-dimensional. His character needs more depth and complexity to it. Heck, they all do. One thing I dislike about Code Lyoko (besides the almost-nonexistent storyline progression) is how one sided all of the characters are. They all have their own personality, but it never changes. All the characters are the exact same as they were in the first episode. It's just like Harrison Ford in Air Force One. "He's a strong, tough President, who, when the going gets rough, is strong and tough." They have no quirks, no nuances, nothing that would add realism to their personalities. You know what the one time was where I actually felt an emotional connection to a character in this show? When Aelita died. Not even then. I was like, "Oh, bummer. I liked her." No, it was when we saw her past revealed in that heart-wrenching flashback (good directing in that scene, Mr. Mouscadet) just before Franz revived her and restored Lyoko. Why? Because the flashbacks added to her background story. They provided insight into what makes Aelita who she is. You can connect with her feelings and thoughts and understand her frustration about her past and her father. None of the other characters have had any background so far, and the show has suffered for it. I can live with a plot that goes nowhere for three seasons. I watched nearly every episode of Stargate SG-1. I am patient. However, if there is one thing that really ticks me off in a series, it is bland characters. I have two words of Cosmic Wisdom for Code Lyoko's creators, so heed them well: CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT. Look at Eureka seveN, or Teen Titans, or even Avatar. What do they all have in common that makes people love their characters? Developing, changing personalities that evolve like normal people over the course of the show. Now don't get me wrong. I do like the characters. The voice actors do a splendid job of bringing life to them. That's why I still watch the show, even though I know that the episode will go something like this: Yumi is emo, Jim is confused, Ulrich is emo and confused, Jeremie says something too smart for a ninth-grader, XANA attacks, Odd cracks wise, the world starts to fall apart, Aelita says something cute, Team Lyoko deactivates the Way Tower with two seconds to spare, the world is saved (Whoa! didn't see that coming from the beginning. No, Sir.) and everyone has a good laugh. No, the VAs are doing their jobs. The problem lies with the writers and/or director not giving them any freedom to expand upon their characters. Please, Mr. Mouscadet, fix this problem before it is too late. I beg of you. Don't pull a George-Lucas. Code Lyoko is your baby. Take care of it. Don't let it turn into repetitive junk that slowly but surely loses fans until it gets canceled mid season.
Did I mention that I still love Code Lyoko? Please don't kill me...

I agree with you, Zex! =D I really do!

I think ALL the characters need development.

Jim - Too much of a drill sergeant. Total opposite of his boss. Rarely pays attention to Sissi, and when he does he usually acts very cruel to her most of the time. In fact, sorry to say this David but it's true, he acts very cruel to ALL of the children. Every time we see him show love and affection, however, it gets reversed thank to a return to the past! :cussout:

Suzanne - Very critical and oppressive. Yells at her students when they make a mistake. Rarely smiles or laughs. And she needs to wear a short-sleeved shirt and skirt.

Sissi - What a brat she is most of the time! True, Season 2 allowed her to shine like a gem, but that shine faded when Season 3 began! Who does she think she is, the Queen of Shiba? I mean, come on! Sissi needs to be thrown down a garbage chute, or thhrown mud, or SOMETHING, because she is a Prissi McBrat!

Did you know: Aelita has been on Lyoko for almost her life. But since you can't age on lyoko, Aelita's Actual age should be around 20 and 24.
Aelita Rocks!!!! in my opinion......

Yes! Definantly more character development. To me, that's the most important thing in a TV show, next to a good overall plot.

Anyway, back on topic. I chose Ulrich, and everyone has already stated the obvious reasons for that. He's the cool guy who all the little kids that watch this show want to be when they grow up. He's also a bit emo, and gets all the cool powers. With the angsty relationship, and has a bunch of fangirls who want to glomp him.

jim just annoys me...and it is kind of weird how
in the episode where odd had to learn disco moves
because sissy was being very extremely nosy and listening
in on odd's disscussion at lunch...and she told everyone
about jim's disco video in the school paper, all those little girls
were swarming all around jim...just utterly creepy...i mean...i almost
could have puked....

...i am the best run-on sentence person ever....

i hate jim...(and he is the phys. ed. teacher....and some people call that class "gym" and
that sounds the same as "jim")...unless you are german...then it would be pronounced "yim", i think
"WOE TO DA TOFU COW!!!"
