I always thought of Code Lyoko being played in Phillippines and how it would be like and how would it be in Tagalog.

Yup, it's dubbed in both HK and mainland. However, just Seasons 1 and 2. Seasons 3 and 4 are fansubbed by a group on the Code Lyoko China forums.

Yep, HK and mainland. Two completely different shows, in terms of names, voices... but the plot stays the same. IT's kinda hard to deviate from in the first place. Personally I like the mainland better.

My bad, though; from you post, it sounded like I'd finally found someone else who watched the mainland show too. Excluding the people over on Code Lyoko China, who all seem to share an undying, venomous hate for William and never update their FTP servers or their front page.

I have no idea. In America and France it's like, "Wow, William's a jerk, but at least he's redeemable." In China, it's "William is a schizo, maniac, pervert who likes to torture things with blood and knives ARRRRR!!!11! KILL HIM!" I still have no idea how they got that impression, other than William's voice. In HK it's actually pretty cute, but in mainland William takes on this extremely loud, obnoxious and affected tone, which is only broken when his voice cracks(hilariously) mid-screaming lecture. Still, screechy voice =/= mass murderer. At least not in my book.

I actually haven't heard his Canto voice yet...-Lulz, I only saw The Key in Canto at the moment. - But hmm...obnoxious voice doesn't help much even if it doesn't equal mass murderer. It's easy to start hating him in the first place, the voice gives a good excuse just to hate him even more...?

The best part is the voice fits William. At least, Chinese William with the words that they give him. He's actually a bit more believable as an antagonistic character in Chinese, if that means anything. In English he was just so... nonchalant? French too, but to a lesser extent.

Mainland show, Aelita's voice is cute. Yumi's voice is too little-girlish, though. Ulrich's voice sounds pretty much the same, and Odd is somewhere between the English and French voices.

Oh, and random notes I took of both Chinese shows. The actual list's a bit longer, but...

Mainland: 陈迪 chén dí, pronounced "chen dee" (somewhat common Chinese name, after a sailor)
Hong Kong / Macao: 阿奇 ā qí (literally, weird/strange/odd, transliterated from English word "odd")

Ulrich

You can tell that the HK version tried to stick to the American names(with mixed results), while the mainland version created names with qualities inherent to the characters. Maybe that'll help you out in your studies next year.

Anyone ever notice that Sissi and Jim have the exact same pitch and inflection, no matter what language they're speaking? Be it French, Israeli, English, or Chinese, they always sound the same. Gotta hand it to the voice actors there.

Since there was the mention of William as a more believable characther in Chinese... I'll mention that Sissi's character in spanish is much more believable thanks to the voice actor's job. Season 1 Jeremie in spanish was more believable as a nerd/loser/geek, until they changed his VA and made Jeremie a bit more believable as a serious character.

Dunno. Now that I think about it, I have a tendency to over/underexaggerate things. His voice is definitely up there on the brat scale, though.

The thing is, that's exactly what they did in HK. The transition screens still have the English names, and the HK names are all about as close to the English names as you can get. So for example, Yumi is pronounced "yow may" but still spelled out as "Yumi" except in cases that require the Chinese characters.

Mandarin and Cantonese (traditionally) use different systems of pinyin, yup.
