Code Lyoko 2.0 Magazine

Postby Mewberries151 » Thu Aug 23, 2007 10:16 pm

I've checked and double-checked that there wasn't a thread for this already (so if there is one, clearly I'm going blind and I give my apologies ^^; ) and technically this is a piece of CL merchandise but...

The Official Code Lyoko Magazine

This is a French CL magazine called, "Code Lyoko 2.0"

...And the reason I didn't want to put this in the "CL Merchandise" thread was due to a very interesting discussion point contained in the magazine.

No, it's not an episode but, take a gander at page 7 and beyond. ;)

If anyone needs a translated version, I can get that as well. ^^

Enjoy and discuss! :D There should be a new one coming with the next month or so too! ^.^

SHWEEEET! Awesome find Mew! But poor Aelita--she did a major face-plant when she rematerialized. And that poor cat being used as bait for the dogs... Jeremie is as ruthless as he is cunning. At the top of page 29 Odd looks absurdly epic. He's posing like a Shakespearian actor. "What ho? A foe!" Ulrich was last man standing--again, but but then he got devirtualized...sideways. I've never seen them devirtualize that way before. O.o At the end, just before Aelita remembered the code, you can see Jeremie fending off the bulldozer with a metal pole. lol. Great comic. A lot better than the printed sludge Bionicle is coming out with these days. I just have one question. What was the XANA attack? I got that Odd and Yumi were racing, Ulrich called them idiots, and then a bunch of construction workers began to tear down the factory. Somehow it caused them to devirtualize and Aelita got amnesia. Odd used bananas, Jer Bear used a cat, and they deactivated a tower at the last second (classic). Were the construction workers ordered by XANA to tear down the factory? Maybe he called them up on the phone with a voice synthesizer.

Y'know, that publicity image they use of Jeremie is awful. It needs to die horribly.

I loved the comic! Specially Jer and the amazing metal pole. And the art for the Season 3 box set is amazing.

That comic was awesome. x3 Some of the expressions were priceless.

Naw, by the things the main demolishing guy said, he was the real deal. XANA wouldn't want to destroy himself anyway. Judging by this comic this would've been early... S2? I dunno. Odd's bananas made me laugh, and the bird. Srysly. LOOK AT IT. xD I kinda like the art in this better than the show, par a few drawings which looked REALLY weird. Like Jeremie's character art. That's just... no.

Thanks to my amazing French skillz (lawl yeah right) I understood most of the comic. If anyone's gonna translate this I could possibly help. But people here probably know the language better than I do. I've only been doing it for two years. >_>;

Between my sister's year of French and my knowledge of CL catchphrases, I was able to make out most of it. Funny...

I have a translated version, made by someguy0830 of TV.com.

Download it here.

You need WinZIP to open it...if you don't have that program...just let me know and I'll upload the pages themselves...somewhere. ^^;

It's amazing how much you understand when you're put up to it. x3

The comic was awesome,..and other things onward. I can't figure out for the life of me what was wrong with Aelita, nor what "HEIN!" means... eh well I'll wait for the translation to complete. (Facial expressions are useful these days...)

Hein is like the japanese ne, or neh. It's kind of used to show an unspoken agreement between people. It's like, well... It's hard to explain. It's like when you add ", right?" to a sentence when you're not looking for specific confirmationof what you said, but rather an agreement of the listeners.

I'm guessing that was XANA's subtle way of saying "Get a move on";It wasn't an actual attack, he activated the tower as incentive to get the kids to the factory. I assume Plan B would have been to deal with the workers directly (by possessing the vehicles? Materialise a few monsters?)

Tekirai wrote:Judging by this comic this would've been early... S2? I dunno.

Definately Early S2. Aelita is materialised, but the RTTP is still rigged to auto-activate when a tower is deactivated.

Thanks! That's actually my first successfull sendspace download in the last few weeks. Still running slow, though (11 Kb/s-ish.)

Great little comic, but now I've got another lot of writers to be jealous of!

Actually, in this case since it's a French comic, "hein" is the French equivalent of the American "Huh?" or "Wha?". It's a slang expression of confusion and/or shock.

As for what was wrong with Aelita, she had amnesia, either due to the bump on the head she took from falling out of the scanner, or because of an error in devirtualization. ^^

XD Aw, you're quite welcome. I only wish I could give more credit to someguy0830 at TV.com...he had it on SendSpace for quite some time too, however the URL has expired and the thread about this magazine at TV.com has been locked due to spam. ^^;

At any rate though, glad to hear you enjoyed it. ^^ It is a rather impressive little comic...I can't wait for the next one. :D

Just finished reading it through - for my opinions (almost entirely positive) see below (warning, spoilers) :)

Oh sweet Jebus - I was about to say this comic's first story looked awesome - until I saw Yumi's uh...'new look'

(beats head against wall)

'Kiwodd' was bad enough, but now I've got to try and reconcile this in my tech-obsessed head! ;)

On other notes, the comic's art is always of the highest standard, consistently beautiful and emotive - it's nice to see stuff that the show can't pull off easily, like dynamic posturing and non-standard camera angles (I mean, I think this is the first time we've ever seen a shot looking down on the factory in any official media), as well as stuff like some anime style effects (a little superdeforming and a lot of 'shock-line-backgrounds') Odd being SKEWERED with a sword and actually SHOWING IT! ;) - same goes for Ulrich decapitating 'Yumi' (yes, look closely, he does) and upsetting her enough to make her cry

And page 28 rules - not only does it have the Subdigitals, but Aelita and Jeremie seem to be on a (gasp) date - she also goes kinda Studio Ghibli in one panel and in the last one has this cute little jump - Kawaii! :D

And William, pre-evil - very nicely done, especially how he looks after being short-changed XD

Overall, the first story is a very nice little tale very much in the vein of Season 1 - made me feel kinda nostalgic :)

And is it me, but on Page 33, is the official magazine ENDORSING fansites like codelyoko.net and 'gasp' lyokodreamers

Ohh - and there's a second story - and I hereby dub Odd's skatebording competitor 'Dred Queen Taluma' and her lackies 'Punkie' and 'Flower Child' - the sixties are long gone hun' - it's nice however to see a story with no XANA, no Lyoko, just a story about the kids and their day-to-day adventures - very nice indeed :)

All in all, this magazine keeps getting better - long may it reign, and long may it continue to excel my expectations - to quote the grand-daddy of comics, Stan Lee, "EXCELSIOR!"

I'm a little late on the uptake on this but Issue #3 has been released.

You can read the comics at the following links:

Comic 1

and

Comic 2

Translatable Summaries can be found in the respective "episode" guides for those two comics on LyokoCode. :)

Unfortunately, it looks like this may be the last issue of Code Lyoko 2.0 as according to this news item from LyokoCode.com, it looks as though Panini is cutting production due to the magazine not meeting profit demands. D:
