CL embarrassment?

Postby Lyoko Wario » Thu May 22, 2008 10:44 pm

When you talk to people about the stuff you watch on the tube, do you ever feel a little bit embarrassed when mentioning CL? The older you get, the harder and harder it gets to say you like this kind of show without getting weird looks from people and sometimes they think you're too childish or something. Even though I love it, I tend not to mention the show unless the specific topic of cartoons comes up, and even then, I try to cover myself by claiming that it's my second favorite animated series, instead of my first like it really is. I usually say my favorite series is Futurama... and that's actually my second favorite!

How do you feel about this kind of thing?

Nah, it is another TV show. No way am I embarrassed when I talk about it, I mean I talk about Fairly Oddparents and Jimmy Neutron with other people and those shows are targeted for an younger audience. To me, Code Lyoko is the same when I talk about TV shows. The only thing you should be embarrassed about when talking about TV shows is like Dora the Explorer and the Teletubbies, unless you are a parent and you are watching it with your small child.
Fictional Conversation after the Episode "Routine:

Ulrich - "You couldn't wait, could you?"
Jeremy - "What are you talking about?"
*Ulrich grabs and lifts Jeremy by his collar.
Ulrich - "I was this close to tasting her porcelain lips. We weren't in any danger, but noooo! You had to return to the past anyway!"
*Jeremy sniffles as Aelita appears on screen and rolls her eyes
Aelita - Ulrich, put him down.

Personally I just tell people it's none of their business what I watch on TV. This has nothing to do with CL, it's just a general principle.

Nah, I've never been embarrassed about it. It's like a business man being embarrassed with being a comicbook collector. There's plently of older folks who love the 'kid stuff', so I think we're in good company. To me, Code Lyoko just happens to fall under the catagory of shows that are "aimmed for kids, but pondered by adults". It's a show that gets better with age, which is a sign of a cult classic in my eyes.

At one time, I was afraid to mention my position in the CL fandom, but now I use it as a dare. If I am struck down solely because I am a Code Lyoko fan, surely I will be avenged!

Heck, I feel embarassed talking about ANYTHING I watch on TV that my Parents don't already watch. They just don't get a lot of the Sci-fi/anime stuff that I like, so I only talk about it with my friends.

Its a bit awkward for me, because i know 1 person out of 2000+ people that go to my school that like the show. I said it during lunch one day, and everybody was looking at me weird. I really like the show, its just telling others thats weird.

I do feel embarassed. Most of people I know find watching any animated series at age of 18 the final stage of being childish. It's so tiring for me not being able to talk about it openly...

I feel embarassed is because I'm 16 and no one in my school likes CL. And... poeple laughed at me whenever I visited any CL sites, sticking pictures of Ulrich on my textbooks and personal files and lastly.... my CL image; the hairstyle and the way I talked.

I used to feel embarrassed when I talked about this famous show. Some kids saw it as horrible and so did my ex-girlfriend, but I learned to live with it.

I'm not as much of a CL fan as I was back then.

Before I graduated this year from the 8th grade, I tried to keep my CL fandom from being too well known. But now, I just realized that it is an aspect about yourself to be proud of.
However, as someone else said, saying that you like a TV show thats for an age group far younger than yours is kinda creepy. This one kid, Cameo, he said that he liked Hannah Montana in a crowded locker room, and he's actually a couple of years older than us, though he doesn't look it. Everyone just stared at him.
I really gotta fix up this theme

I've been watching the show since like...6th grade? So...for 5 years I've been into it. And my friends don't think it's too odd since I tend to get myself unreasonably obsessed with things I enjoy, so they take it in stride. I just don't run around talking about it 24/7 with them, because they don't know what I'm talking about anyways.

I don't know about the people at your school, but to me you sound wicked cool!

then again, my conception of "cool" is generally not to be trusted.

I don't feel embarassed because in my opinion, you shouldn't be ashamed to like it even if nobody really likes it and thinks its "kiddy".

Most people at my college who I've mentioned it to either didn't recognize it or didn't find it odd.

So, no embarrassment here.

Yeah, a little. Partly because there's rarely anyone whose heard of it, and it's a kid's show.

But I remember that I wouldn't be the artist I am today if CL didn't inspire me to draw. If anyone ridicules me on that, then they're not worth talking to.

I do remember that there are people at my school who tease me because of it, but I don't care. If they want to say that they hate CL just because they want to get something to insult me about, they can go ahead. I don't frankly care.

Today in first hour, some people were talking about weird shows on Cartoon Network. They talked about Adult Swim, and then I heard those infamous two words: "huge foreheads". Though they said, and I quote, "that samurai dude is kinda cool" and "that kid in the dark suit is badarse" (censored), they showed no love for our beloved Franime. I won't tell you what they called Odd. I only briefly mentioned that "I was a fan of Code Lyoko." And before you freak out, it's true. I was a fan of Code Lyoko. I just neglected to mention that I am still a fan.

Usually, I don't tell people I like Code Lyoko. If people ask me, for example, "what's that Code Whatever thing on your Myspace?" I'll say "Oh, it's this show I like." If they press for more information I'll say "It's this French anime-type thing."

Though I do not usually openly talk of Code Lyoko, and I do feel slightly embarrassed when I do, I am not ashamed of the fact that I enjoy Code Lyoko.
