Is Code Lyoko....dying?

Postby Rho » Sun May 10, 2009 7:23 pm

It's only aired currently in about 5 countries, maybe more. It's starting to slip away in the UAE.

It seems to have vanished off of American airwaves. CN hasn't even acknowledged its existence in over a year. CN Video is slow, annoying to deal with off sync 98% of the time, and only has Season 1 episodes.

Moonscoop is supposedly filing copyright claims on many Code Lyoko Youtube videos. All HQ Season 1 episodes are gone, and it is not even airing anymore. Season 1 episodes I can understand somewhat, since there's a season 1 DVD, but the rest of Season 2, and any DVDs for Seasons 3 and 4 aren't even announced for America, but have been released in France.

How can we help this great show stay alive and not die off?
I've been sending e-mails to CN for over a year now. They don't care. They'd rather corrupt their channel with "CN Real", a block launching this summer... with live action reality shows. One of which seems to just be clips of people riding roller coasters. What the hell?

There's still several questions unanswered, which is why we need to somehow prove its popularity to CN and Moonscoop so they can get Season 5 going.
France 3 has allegedly agreed to help fund a season 5, but CN and Moonscoop have yet to want one.

Petitions don't do anything. I recall the last time somebody started a CL petition (about romance), nothing ever happened. This isn't going to go anywhere either.
thank you all for the good memories <3

There are three movies and a special on the way, but unfortunately that's gonna be all they'll do.
How many times do I have to say it?

Code Lyoko is ancient history!

I hate to break it to everyone, but the show is in the cartoon graveyard and is NOT coming back. The director and head writer have moved on and I am confident that the VAs have grown tired of continuing to identify themselves with the show.

Seems Lyokophiles are becoming like Narutards now. Or at least a percentage of them.

Firstly, I'm fairly sure that petitions are against LF policy. And Jeremefied is right, fan-based petitions rarely work, and one as vauge as "keep Code Lyoko alive" is definetely not going to be an exception.

Secondly, yes. Code Lyoko's time in the sun is reaching dusk. The show has been ended, and Cartoon Network has made the decision that it wants to target a new demographic with new types of programming. Television is a business, and CL is no longer profitable.

Sure, we'll keep it in our hearts with stories and art, but I am certain that the show is on a flatline. Heck, the VAs haven't made a peep in the last three years.

I honestly am sad that it had to go this way; it was a great show, but it did more than that. Before I joined Tech Links back in '06 or '07. I was just your average nerdy student with no friends. But since then, I have met many people in both real life and teh internetz. It did a lot for me, and it would be sad to see it end as such.

OTOH, Veoh still has many videos available in HQ, and unlike YouTube, they're complete.

BTW, for me at least, watching the shows now when i'm 16 is touture. I have every episode on my HD, but every time i watch them, its just boring and stupid. This is the same with pretty much any old CN cartoon, besides Ed Edd and Eddy (who dosen't want to see a cartoon wheere people are beating the crap out of eachother?).

Rho, while the gesture is appreciated, please don't make petitions and advertise them here. The creative staff of CL have asked us before not to do that as it can put them in an uncomfortable situation in the industry.

That said, I don't think there's anything wrong with reminiscing about CL and what it meant to us but unless we use this thread for that exclusively (and remove the petition information) I'm going to have to lock it otherwise.

Sorry guys. ^^;

Well, there are still the books, aren't there?

Anyway, even if Code Lyoko isn't "hip" and "cool" (as the kids say) currently, I really doubt it's going to be lost forever; remember, it's a part of the popular culture now, and even if we don't get any new adventures, it'll never really be forgotten. Besides, there are things like fan fiction, video games, and the inevitable upcoming live-action revival that'll hit theaters in a decade or two to keep it going. And as long as we keep coming here and palling around, it'll remain a part of our lives for as long as we want it to, hopefully forever.

And guys, I assure you, this CN Real bullcrap is going to die in like a year. Nobody wants to see live-action on Cartoon Network, or at least not enough people to keep that aberration alive. They may not have learned their sound lesson with Re-Animated and Out of Jimmy's Head, but I can practically guarantee that this summer will be the last to see original live-action programming on the Network, if not live-action, period.

Also, there's hope. They aired the last of Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends in a mini-marathon, so they may give some proper closure to some of their other "older" shows, CL included. Maybe other shows they started airing but never finished will get one last glorious stand in the sun, such as Hi Hi Puffy AmiYumi.

In happier news, something that isn't likely to make a difference, but I'm brimming with faith: a friend and I are putting together a moderately-elaborate video on YouTube that directly addresses Cartoon Network and tells them how we, their original fans, are becoming more and more disenchanted with them and what they can do to get better. We're using humor and act pretty friendly, so it's not like it's a big, rude, offensive tirade.

Keep the faith, dear friends. Even in a worst-case scenario, Lyoko will live on in us.

EDIT: We really should keep in touch with each other, seeing as this place is pretty much dead most of the time and whenever I show up, I'm the only one here. Everyone should add everyone else on MSN or Skype or whatever you guys use. Anyone who wants to make me an MSN contact for chatting is more than welcome to do so. (just let me know who you are)

Agreed.
I still believe that Code Lyoko despite its imperfections has potential to become a worldwide hit. Who knows, maybe in few years it'll be rediscovered and gain even more popularity... To our pride and joy :D

It was good for me too - it really gave a wonderful vibe to my three years at university, and it resulted in one of the best weeks of my life - all good :)

Taelia, you're giving off a Reaction Formation vibe. ;)

Anyways, even if the show's over, big deal. Gargoyles still has a strong fandom, and who doesn't Love Lucy?

There should be a Code Lyoko live stage show, like MMPR World Tour: Live on Stage. I know the perfect choices for Jim and Suzanne already.

Why? It'd be kinda cool. Power Rangers did it and Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon did so with Kirari Super Live, so why can't CL do the same?

I don't think that particle disintegration is an easily obtainable stage action.

Either way, CL is more dead than the Princess of Wales. The show is in the ground and is not coming back.

Let's be honest here, I understand that people can get offended by the "Code Lyoko is dead" notion because you're still a fan of this show.

But reality has never shown Code Lyoko as an extremely popular and solid show. Even during its prime (Season 1 & 2), Code Lyoko wasn't a acclaimed worldwide phenomenon.

You are right, MY85. Code Lyoko wasn't an acclaimed worldwide phenomenon.
Code Lyoko is not popular at all in Singapore, in fact, most kids there jeered at the show and some kids in my school even bullied me for liking Code Lyoko :(
