A Possible Virus on Lyoko Freak

Postby Chosen_one » Thu Apr 06, 2006 6:47 pm

Um... OK. I was just checking my email, and one of them was a reply notification to the topic "Free iPod/PSP (from video file to MP4) Converter!" (the URL is http://www.lyokofreak.net/forum/viewtop ... 4046#94046), and when I clicked the link, it opened repeatedly until about 55 windows were open. Then they closed themselves and started over. I had to use the Windows Task Manager to end the Internet Explorer process. Does anyone know anything about this?

And if this happens to you and you're using Windows, press [Ctrl] + [Alt] + [Delete] to open up the Windows Task Manager, select the Processes tab, select iexplorer.exe (not explorer.exe; that's the start menu, the desktop, the thing that shows your files... closed that by accident and I couldn't do anything) and click "End Process."

I can assure you this is not a problem with LF. It sounds to me like you have ad-ware on your computer.

...Good luck getting rid of it! :D

I agree with Star - the key to solving it is to get some counter ad-ware software to clean out your computer, and possibly scan for viruses as a precaution.

OK, thanks! :D I've been having a lot of Internet problems lately, and so far I've been on Lyoko Freak for a long time and nothing's happened. Thanks for the information! ^_^

Yeah. Unless we go to the exact same websites, I think it's very unlikely the same thing would happen for both of us. Maybe it's a bug in Internet Explorer.

And then I accidentally clicked on it once and like, 20 pages shot up and dissapeared, then Mozilla Firefox crshed and sent out a bug report.

There have been many reports of PHPBB forums being hacked at random, so everyone should be careful and get the latest security updates.

Oh okay - I thought it was a joke. Sorry

Well guys, as someone who's suffered first hand at a major forum-error, there's very little that can be done to guard against it but Erynn has the support of some awesome people with amazing computer skills to help pick the forum back up after such incidents, so we can take comfort in that.

I'm not having any trouble either, so I don't think it's a forum problem. It must be with your computers.
not gonna bother coming back

Yeah... seriously, it's not LF's fault, it's your computers. If there was anything wrong with this site, not only would *I* know, but there would be a lot more than two/three people complaining about pop-ups. :P

Those of you with problems probably have malware on your computers. There are a number of free programs that remove that stuff from your harddrives which you'll want to look into, like Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc. You can get those from Download.com.

...Then wy are you here?...

There really is no difference from a forum or a government site, they have the exact same changes of being dangerous. Every Webpage is broken down into the same things, so it's just logical that the risks would be the same.

Hate to bumb this but if the problem is still continuing try and run another virus scan. On monday my computer totally crashed. Which means I couldn't boot it up or nothing. My mom called some guy in India and the problem was solved. We then ran a virus scan and found 22 virus's.

Another tip try and stay away from sites like myspace or anything like that. They can gum up your computer and cause major problems. That's all I have to say right now.
