"phpBB mass-hack being prepared (FuntKlakow-bot)?- general countermeasures
During the last few days a bot using a name FuntKlakow, has been
registering to at least hundreds (maybe thousands) of phpBB forums.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=com&q=F ... tnG=Hae&me ta=

Bot is also capable for posting to forums:
http://forum.uebimiau.org/search.php?se ... =FuntKlako w
http://www.alternativ.ro/forum/search.p ... uthor=Funt Klakow

But most on most forums the bot keeps silent.

Ok, what is a danger?
Next time the phpBB announces a critical vulnerability, the bot would
have everything ready (just a post click away) from attacking
thousands of sites/forums.

Best defence against these kinds of bot-members, might be setting up
honeypot-forums, which the search engines can find but to which there
are no permanent links from the web. When new bot-members are
detected, such would be listed at each particular forum makers
homepage.

When a bot would then try to register to a forum, the forum program
would check the user/bot inputted user-name (or other characteristics)
and if those would match to those catched by a honeypot-forums,
registerin such user detais would be eliminated ( and possible IP
banned for some time)

Don't double post.
or make a thread twice.
And couldn't this be placed in a PM to StarWay?

True... but you don't need to post it twice, and if it's directed at other members as well who do not own the LyokoFreak forum (And there is only one...Staar, I sound like an erynnism preist...) then it shouldn't be in site discussion.

Other than that, I completely agree, and think it's horrible.

But then again, I'm a gnitpicker my habit and generics.

Yes, they do have a right to know. But posting something twice is against the rules and you know it. The circumstances under which something is double posted does not make it okay.

If you'd wanted to warn people twice here you should have asked permission first instead of just going ahead and doing it. Your good intentions are well-appreciated but breaking the rules and then trying to justify breaking them is not very good behavior. This thread will be locked as this has nothing to do with the Discussion of LF in particular. The one in Tech Discussion can stay though.

Again, Jeremy, this was a nice action but do not do something like post a topic twice again. That's still spam.

Thank you.

Locking.
