Holy bleep I just got mad excited. o--o

So... PhpBB is finally trying to be cool... *is happy*

I think I'll download the beta and check it out on a test forum for now. I'm not going to install it onto LF because of potential security problems, and also because it's likely they won't issue an upgrade to stable releases from the beta when those become available. (Which would be bad news, because I'm not comfortable enough with PHP to try to edit the code and do a manual upgrade.)

But still, thank you VERY MUCH for posting about this! I wouldn't have known about it otherwise, most likely...

Oh, definitely! When they release the stable version, LF's getting upgraded the minute it comes out. *drools looking at feature list* ...

*hands you a towel* oh most noble one..thoust is drooling upon thine divine servers...you mustn't continue that action* haha..but seriously, looking at that list is very very pleasing because of the things you would be able to do with it. The final version would definitely be something I would have if I had my own website.

I noticed that the new look is a bit cleaner and not so abusive to the eyes..and just the features alone make it worth the upgrade...I may have to get the final version of it and try something with it...I think I will.

For those of you wondering, here are the reasons I'm not upgrading right now:

* Probably the biggest reason is that there's no upgrade tool, meaning that unlike upgrading from a previous stable release I'd have to go through files in the forum and maybe directly edit some code... It probably wouldn't be as hard as it looks, but I'm not willing to mess with it as I'm not *especially* comfortable with PHP, and if something went wrong... well...

* Beta versions rarely have upgrade tools once Release Candidates or stable versions finally come out...

* The point of beta versions, also, is to find bugs, meaning that the software is not yet flawless (or as much so as is humanly possible.) PhpBB also has a reputation of being rather buggy (just by nature), so I don't really want to use this software live just yet. :P

* This probably goes along with the above statement, but because the software's not 100% complete yet, there are bound to be security problems, and I'm just not willing to risk that. (I've made some enemies in my time that aren't... what you'd call computer-illiterate...)

However, I'm just as excited (if not moreso) about this as you guys are, so don't think I want to be putting it off! Like I said, LF's getting upgraded the minute it's possible... But there's no guarantee when that will be, because the guys at phpBB are never predictable of when it comes to upgrades...

To vSTI: That would be the default theme, subSilver. :P (LF isn't using that one, we have two others that weren't made by phpBB and are prettier IMO.)

To lambo: Thanks one more time for letting me know! :D :D :D

that just made my morning..I found that subsilver very nice...and easy to read as far as text that was posted.

As far as for updating when you can, thats cool...and you are very smart not updating if you are unsure of your security parameters...but when you finally do update..things will be very awesome...especially with all those features. I cant wait to see whats available for final use though..I hope they dont decide to take anything out from that list...because that is a good list.

Going into the system manually is tricky because you may accidently delete something vital...thats why I dont do that anymore...I always wait for updated things to come out, just to make sure things are on the up and up.

This will make the modaters job easyier. So, Erynn, what is the contol panel like? Baneing, bugs, anything? And how do you mannage to have a forum up on LF? How much bandwith do you get?
I know my spelling sucks, but you can still read it, right?

Nahh, that e-mail was in regards to CPU minutes, not bandwidth or disk space. (I have QUITE a lot of both of those... In fact, I believe right now the entire sum of space being used on my part of the server by this site and the others I'm hosting comes to about 2% of my total space. xD) They also stopped regulating people's CPU usage a couple months ago, so we're good!

Oh my god... I was taken by that the moment I saw it. All it needs are sub-boards and PHPBB will be perfect... maybe.

Edit: OMFG IT DOES HAVE SUB-BOARDS!!! MY LIFE IS NOW PERFECT (almost)!
