I sat there and watched and I was dissapointed. I have a fond love of music in films. I love it when characters sing, but the music in this movie was NOTHING worth noting. Maybe I was expecting something a long the lines of Voltair's "Brains!" song but the fact not one tune was catchy bothered me so.
Okay next thing, the voice of Jack. This was another huge dissapointment. When I hear the name "Jack" and I see the character model there is one word that jumps in to my mind: "Charisma". I need a voice evil-intention sounding, sharp and quick witted. The voice of Jack in this film is just sort of dull, life-less and much much much to low.
As I said before when I read the scropt, I complained Oggie Boogie didn't get enough air time to establish him as a decent villian. After seeing this movie, not only was he mis-handled in the way he was built up but also in the way Jack beat him. The final battle was WAY too short and at least it came off to me that it was barely a work out for Jack to beat him.
Sally, no complaints. She was a tremendous character gem in this horrilble rough. I absolutley loved the character, in addition the evil doctor as well. Sally was the main reason I didn't shut the thing off.
Overall this film just reminded me of something I got off Wikipedia:
Burton said "Anybody who knows me knows I would never read a comic book. And I certainly would never read anything written by Kevin Smith." Smith's only response to Burton's comments was, "Which I guess explains Batman."
I gusse it also explains The Nightmare Before Christmas.
