Kid arrested for opening christmas presents early

Postby . » Wed Dec 06, 2006 3:52 pm

COLUMBIA, S.C. (Dec. 6) - A fed-up mother had her 12-year-old son arrested for allegedly rummaging through his great-grandmother's things and playing with his Christmas present early.

The mother called police Sunday after learning her son had disobeyed orders and repeatedly taken a Game Boy from its hiding place at his grandmother's house next door and played it. He was arrested on petty larceny charges, taken to the local police station in handcuffs and held until his mother picked him up after church.

"My grandmother went out of her way to layaway a toy and paid on this thing for months," said the boy's mother, Brandi Ervin. "It was only to teach my son a lesson. He's been going through life doing things ... and getting away with it."

Police did not release the boy's name.

The mother said her son was diagnosed in the last year with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, but that his medicine does not seem to help.

She said he faces an expulsion hearing at his school Wednesday. Rock Hill Police Capt. Mark Bollinger said the boy took a swing at a police officer assigned to the school last month. He has been suspended from school since then.

The boy's case will be presented to Department of Juvenile Justice officials in York County, who will decide what happens to him, Bollinger said. His mother hopes he can attend a program that will finally scare him straight.

"It's not even about the Christmas present," she said. "I only want positive things out of it. ... There's no need for him to act this way. I'd rather call myself than someone else call for him doing something worse than this."

Number 1: It's not that hard to sneak open a box and reseal it. Hell I can open games wrapped in celefame these days and make it look okay. This kid deserved to go to jail just for being an idoit and getting caught more then once.

Number 2: when I was a youngin' I was diagnosed with ADD. I stop medication when I went into middle school. So this is something I really cannot understand when people say that the ADD is seriously effecting their life. I can understand it as far a school work is concerned but I can not understand it at all how ADHD can explain him stealing a freaking gameboy.

Lol. That's why I really don't like kids 10-13 years old. They are a little way too immature.

TT_TT *jayslashkay*

*laughs* I'm embarrased to call myself a 'young'un' with kids like this these days. Good thing maturity is a family heritage for me. But geography skills aren't, nyahaha. x3 I'm the most mature person in my class next to Bridge, unless she's having another burping contest with Cheese again.

Seriously, though. ARRESTING? I can't get over that. xDD

Yeah, seriously. I have ADHD, and yes, I take medicene, but the only side effects that I have when I don't take it is that my brain feels fuzzy, it's hard to concentrate, and I get sleepy. I don't steal things.

Though perhaps the upbringing and how strict basic moral values are inplanted into the individual has something to do with this?

WHAT??

Arrested?

In trouble, maybe, but being arrested is way too much.

There's a word for this. It's called 'part of growing up'. But doctors call it 'ADHD' and give pills for it.

Hey, no bashing ADHD! I really have it, and it ROYALY SUCKS!!! (sorry, mods).

ADHD Does exist, but people are overtreating it a little. To claim the kid had ADHD is just an excuse not to get him in trouble, ad the kid should make ammends for his misdeeds.

I do have ADHD, and I do think that's true. Just a very badly placed joke...

My advice to the parents: Stop being so dumb. Get the belt!

That's how it used to be back then right! I was only hit once, and it hurt... but, if she really wants the kid to stop doing these things, don't arrest the kid. You'll just add to the kid's hatred toward other people that work for the law! There's a word that adults used to FORCE on kids, and that is: DISCIPLINE!

So do the parents. Who arrests their kid for opening a Christmas present early? Even if he gets away with too many things that doesn't mean you arrest the kid!

(In my words.)

Well, the world is crazy enough as it is. Why not add more? Same reason for the guy who farted on a plane and everyone jumped off....(No Joke)

What the...? When did that happen?

Anyway, I think what that mother did was lazy parenting. I mean, calling the police? Is she that desperate?

Its not about the present. The boy was going out of control before the present thing ever happened.
