WARWICK, R.I. - A court appearance has been postponed for a woman accused of stealing a baby parrot and cutting off its leg to remove a store tag. Prosecutors said Pamela Worden walked into a pet store in May, stole the $500 bird and later snipped off one of its legs to remove an identity tag.

Police say they found the parrot bleeding in Worden's apartment along with an amputated foot and a pair of scissors.

Worden had been scheduled to appear Monday for a pre-trial hearing, but it was postponed until November 5.

Worden previously pleaded not guilty to possessing stolen goods, a felony, and cruelty to animals, a misdemeanor. A spokesman for Attorney General Patrick Lynch says prosecutors will request prison time for Worden if she's convicted.

Oh, yes. This is just sick and stupid. I wonder if drugs are involved, though I wouldn't be surprised if they were.

"Thawt's right! I ayte a babay! Babay! It's what's for dinner! Babay! The other white meat!"

"You look like a babay! Get in mah belley!"

I couldn't resist quoting it. :D

This is so sad, though. A parrot? Baby for Thanksgiving? OMG. Just the other day some daft twat forgot that her baby was in the back seat of the car and when in to work at Hooters. The temp in the car got above 100 and when she got off of work and came back to the car she found the baby was dead. She's in court right now.
My other car is a gundam.

That's just horrible. I mean, nobody gains from it- ESPECIALLY the parrot- and cutting off its leg? Wow. That's stupidity brought to a new level because then it'll have a far lower resale value (which is probably what the woman wanted to do- sell it).
thank you all for the good memories <3

I'd rather cut off XANA's legs than to cut off a parrot's leg.

Or cook a baby. It would taste good to Hannibal Lecter and Ed Gein, though.

Heh...no, it's definitely an urban legend. ^^; That one in particular likes to crop up every few years or so, when it's relevant.

It's such a popular urban legend that it often accidentally appears in newspaper's whose reporters don't check their sources first.

Trust me, I know. I took a couple folklore classes a ways back ago(wonderful courses they are ^^ ), and one of the text books we read from explored that particular legend.

There's yet to be one veritable account of somebody cooking a baby. ^^;

...This parrot thing though, is disturbing beyond belief. O.o;;;

One case of cooking was not too long ago when a dude put his kid in a michrowave. Also yet the one was proven. Watch the show Urban Legends mostly true? It did happen.

*sweatdrops* I would hardly call that show a "credible" source...seeing as how its' sole purpose is to perpetuate the knowledge and popularity of urban legends. ...And the fact that it has "mostly true" in the title...how can something be "mostly true"? ^^;

...Especially since that "microwave" story...sounds like a variation of the classic "Poodle in the microwave" urban legend. None of them have ever been credibly proven to have happened.

If I must PM you the exact text from my own textbook on urban legends, and why that one in particular never happened, I will, but it is most certainly an urban legend. ^^;

In fact...I think Mythbusters might have covered it once...

*blinks* Woah...I ought to make an urban legends thread just so that classic myths like that can be discussed. :)

At any rate though, I find it almost ironically hilarious that the woman pleaded "not guilty" to all of the charges. What kind of excuse can she possibly give?

"No, your honor, I swear the parrot came that way when I bought it."

Oii...dishonest. irresponsible people...

Not too long ago I watched the microwave story on Nancy Grace and they showed pictures of the suspect and all. Supposedely he had also put the kid in the fridge before. I'm not saying that it did happen though, I just wanted to mention that.

I have nothing to say about the woman who cut the parrot's leg other than people like her disgust me.
