The War in the Middle-East

Postby knifey » Thu Jan 03, 2008 2:31 pm

As we all know, there is a was going on in the Middle-east between Iraq, and the United States of America.

I'm not entirely sure about all the facts that may have instigated the war, but I do recall hubub being about President George W. Bush saying that there were weapons of mass destruction located in Iraq, and he would use the U.S. troops.

What are your thoughts on this?

I left the poll with vague choices for you to specify why you chose your standpoint on the war.

If you don't care, it may be best not to post in this thread.

<S>Remember Gauntlet, no posting unless a giant fight breaks out because your word is usually final, or finalizes a thread.</S>

EDIT: I don't know if there is a thread for this topic already, but if there is, please provide a link and have an authority lock this thread.

Eh, we got in this war under false pretenses. Its true that WMD's are what Dubya said we are after, and that we haven't found any. I know a guy who says they were all shipped to Syria, but I don't think Sadaam was that smart. The thing is, if we pull out, do you knwo what happens? Anyone who even tolerated our presence in Iraq's gonna get killed. It happened in Vietnam and Korea, so what's to stop it from happening there?

Right. I think the war started over a misunderstanding (to be fair, Saddam wasn't very cooperative in trying to prove his claim), but pulling out now would be bad. It would not only imply weakness, but irresponsibility. Imagine if the police tore your house apart in a drug bust (thanks to the actions of your black-sheep brother-in-law, let's say), found nothing, then left you with the rubble. It may not be easy, but we should fix what we break.
(yeah, the cool links in my old sig died. :( A few nerdy newish projects are here. )

Not just that....

Can you imagine the more anti-American Middle Eastern countries' reaction? They'll laugh at their "Great Satan" and think they're the reason we'll withdraw, when more than likely, it'll be some troop bill in Congress. That might be enough for more terror attacks.

I'd say, yes the War started off on a false pretense. But if we pull out now, it'll only lead to trouble. So Bush has got to figure something out before Clinton or Obama takes over. Now, I somewhat support Bush, as he is in a very tight situation with this whole affair. There's really nothing for him to do atm. I feel sorry for him.

14 more days until the restraining order on this thread lifts.

So, I'll leave you all with this little gem. Until then, sleep with one eye open.

North Korea ceased to be a threat after their missle test failed so miserably.
