Oban Star Racers

Postby Lyoko Wario » Sat Oct 18, 2008 2:24 pm

So over the last few months I became totally hooked on this show, another Franime created by Savin Yeatman-Eiffel and with considerable input (including character design) from Thomas Romain. It's really good, about this chick called Eva ("Molly" for most of the series) who races aliens in outer space and tries to reunite her broken family. That summary was extremely brief, but I'm assuming most of you already know something about it.

I decided to start a chat about it here.

It'll get everyone in the mood for my epic CL / OSR crossover fan fiction.

So, how do you like it? As good as CL? Not as good? Better yet? Talkie-talkie.

That is all. (... or IS IT)

Man, I remember seeing the commercial for this show and thinking it was some Star Wars thing. My friend told me she watched it and was surprised that I hadn't seen it (since it's a franime as you put it, and I was known at the time to be a huge fan of anime), so out of curiousity I watched the episode that played that evening.

I didn't exactly fall in love with it at first time, since it was that incredibly boring filler episode that focused on Oban being the 'mother planet', but I watched the rest of the series online and LOVED IT. x_x It surpasses CL in pretty much everything. The characters, storyboard, environment, music... everything is fantastic. It's one of the main things that's inspired me to have a career in animation in the future. (It was a joint effort between Japan and France, but if Europe took part in something this good, there's no reason why it can't happen again.)

As a random bit of trivia, Savin (last name fails me right now, something-Eiffel?) the writer of the series, is the great(great?)grandson of the man who designed the Eiffel tower. :O Well, not everybody would make the link even with the name...
