Hurricane Katrina

Postby Paige » Sat Sep 03, 2005 2:24 pm

I don't know why, but I can't stop thinking about all the damage Hurricane Katrina did to everyone and everything. It makes me feel so very bad that I am having fun where I live and living comfortably while thousands of people are suffering, dying, or already dead. When I watch the news it makes me want to cry. And I also just want to skip school and go down there to bring water bottles. This is exactly why I want to be in the military when I grow up. So I can save people from disasters like this.

Anyways. I just posted this to get your minds going. What if this happened to you? How would you handle it? What would you want people to do for you? I always put myself in other people's shoes.

Does anyone share my feelings?

I agree 100%... those poor people.

My school is selling these necklaces (they're like mardi-gras beads) and the profits all go to the efforts towards helping those down south. We made 1,000 some dollars in 30 minutes, it was incredible.

President Bush says that the death toll is worse than that of September 11th. But it won't have such a huge impact in history as September 11th. My mother also thinks that Hurricane Katrina is one of the top 5 worst hurricanes ever.

Horrible. Rather worse than Gilbert was for Jamaica.

Hard to believe a hurricane was so powerful that it was still a tropical storm when it hit Tennessee! Hurricane force winds all the way up Mississippi and Alabama! Wow!

Katrina, the 11th tropical storm for the season... in August! Last year, Ivan (the 9th) swiped Jamaica in mid-September, almost on the anniversary of Gilbert's direct hit in 1988 (Gilbert was the 7th).

Now who says global warming is a myth?

Thankfully, we only had about 24 hours of windy-dark-sprinkly weather. I think it rained rather hard overnight, but no flooding, thank goodness.

But it was kind of fun weather too. I felt really bad about enjoying it so much, actually. XD

Fortunately, Puerto Rico didnt suffer any damage since it wasnt in Katrinas path. But in the aftermath, it was just horrible. My thoughts are with those survivors getting much needed help.

I see... btw, what part of TN do you live, and how far from the zone where Katrina hit it?

..hmm...I ain't losing sleep over this incident....

think about it....New orleans has been in danger of such an event ever since it was built...since it is located under sea level...the big guys in govt have never forseen such an event...money that could've been used to prepare for such an event was wasted on an useless war...human resources that could've also been used to quickly evacuate...wasted on an useless war...

People over there are starving, dying...and basically hysterical...and yet...the war goes on...

Thing is...it was gonna happen eventually...to be weeping over it now is useless...only thing that can be done is, for those that can help, help...for those that cannot....they cannot...end of story...

If you're religious, pray for them...pray not for their survival...but for their sanity....an insane individual is as dangerous as a serial killer...pray for the quick death of the dying, and the long life of the living....

Pray for the hysteria to end...

Pray for help to come...let it be celestial, natural...or human....just let it be help...
