I believe the released DVDs will NOT be edited. I guess that's good news.

About the voices. Okay, Naruto's was done by Maile Flanagan. If you don't know who she is, she did the voice of 'Young Piggly Winks' on Jakers! The Adventures of Piggly Winks. Basically, it's a pig with an Irish accent. It sounds just like Naruto. Sigh. This upset many, many people. Sasuke was done by some guy fluent in Japanese, so that's why he's able to pronounce the names correctly. Heh. Then there's Sakura. Nobody cares about her until they get to about manga chapter 200 something. That's when she actually shows her power. Konohamaru (my favorite character) was done by the lady that did Genius (a.k.a. Genus) from the video game Tales of Symphonia. In case you were interested. Lastly, there's Zabuza. I believe his voice was done by the dude that annouced the shows for Toonami. I may be wrong, though. Isn't that weird? Anyway, I'm sure you know more than half of this information, but there's my input. Ja ne!

The anime on tv is always dubbed so you can't really get away from it, but when I watch a DVD of anything foreign I like having subtitiles. But then, I turn on the subtitles with almost everything I watch; it's kinda amazing what I miss without having subtitles. Don't know why, it's not like I have hearing difficulties. :shrug:

For me, it depends entirely on the series. There are some tremendous dubs and some awful ones, and there are some subs that aren't as good as the dubs.

Occasionaly I have seen Naruto and One Piece on Cartoon Network. Those dubs are absolutely HORRIBLE. Granted, I've never seen the subbed, though I have read a few chapters of each manga and based on that the CN version really.. sucks. xD

The Full Metal Alchemist dub, however, is absolutely tremendous. Yet, so is the sub. I've seen almost all of Adult Swim's dubbed FMA episodes and I've seen the entire subbed series. I love both of them to death and I don't think that I could possibly choose between them. It's a great experience watching both versions of this anime, IMO.

It also depends on which one you watch first, the sub or dub, and if you watch the anime after reading the manga. If I've seen the dub first, like for Inuyasha, and it's decent to good, sometimes I don't like the sub so much just because I'm used to the dub. It can also happen in reverse, if one experiences the sub version of an anime they may feel like the dub has lost too much. And with manga, sometimes the voices given to the characters aren't what you expected, so that can hinder your enjoyment. That happened to me with DNAngel.. I love the manga but the anime (dubbed, never seen subbed) is just a little.. bleh. Still cute though. xD

I am a hardcore subtitle fan, ever since Sailor Moon, I must have subtitles. Of course, I am a Sailor Moon fanatic. I've seen all of seasons one and two in both Japanese and English and find the Japanese far superior. My little sister however, still can't read very well so she's into the dubbed Sailor Moon, watching it in english after seeing the Japanese is like torture now, lol.

But I have yet to se CL in french. I really should do that.... :D

The Japanese Naruto has the best voice I have ever heard. I almost died when I heard it the first time. That's why so many people hated Flanagan and her dub.

Wow.. it's odd that we have completely opposite opinions on this. I think that Naruto's dubbed voice is.. awful. o.o;;

I remeber seeing Gundam Seed for first time at an anime con last April, it was subbed (as expected when you go to one) and it sound wonderful. I like the show because of that (even though the suits they wear make them look like power rangers). I go to see the dub (at my house), and it makes me want to *insert random violent things to say* all over their sorry behinds. Same with .hack legends...never seen the subbed, but the dub is crap (at least Shugo and Reina (sp?)).

Like Naruto, the Japanese .hack//Legend of the Twilight is won-der-ful! Shugo is so cute! Rena sounds human! I think it's because Allison Keith was the voice of Rena. Keith also did Misato Katsuragi for NGE/EoE and such. She sounded okay there, but did not make a good Rena at all. Don't get me going on Shugo's voice. Sandy Fox was Mireille, though! Woot!

That reminds me, in my French class we are given French names. I chose Mireille. Works out well, doesn't it? :D

Gah, this is where my so-called l33t anime skillz fail me. Everyone know VA's, Directors, you name it. I just watch anime, and keep track on what goes on it what episode. Sure, I know some VA's from some shows, but I've really fallen behind compared to others (call it lack-of-internet-time I guess...that and I never look at credits XD).

I like subbed episodes of shows. When we watch them, it's for kids, but in Japan, it's for adults and teens.

The only subtitled movie I ever enjoyed was called Contracara. I enjoyed it because the subtitles were in Spanish and the movie itself was in English. I was in Querétaro, Mexico, at the time. The movie is better known by its original English title: FaceOff.
