Jamiroquai? Wait, didn't he sing ending song for Garage Kids

Postby G-Force » Thu Apr 13, 2006 4:52 pm

A brief lesson in CL history for those in need of it. Way back in the day (don't ask me when cause I don't know the exact date) before CL was aired a pilot episode titled Garage Kids was made. Though it carried the same CL feel many differences were apparent, two being the absence of Aelita and Ulrich's now infamous Lyoko outfit.

Once the pilot was over and the credits started to roll a little song titled "Love Foolosophy" played over the still images and caused us to tap our toes to the beat. It's a song we've all heard as a CL community as a whole and something that we cherish. Now the funny thing is, this is not the first time the US audience has been exposed to Jamiroquai. Aside from the use of the song "Canned Heat" which was made famous after Napoleon Dynamite used it to dance his way into our hearts, nine years ago he had a breakout musical hit here that was followed by one of the greatest music videos of all time.

The song I'm talking about...Virtual Insanity

I remember seeing this video when I was ten years old and I fell in love with it at first sight. I hope given our overall posivtive outlook on the singer you too will watch this video and enjoy it as much as I had.

XD I want a room with a floor like that. Fun fun fun! :*D

I'm excedingly impressed with alot of things in this video. The moving floor (and the fact that it changes directions and not all the furniture moves with it), is very cool, and to me it recalls the famous Fred Astaire number in which he dances on the walls and ceiling of a room where the gravity appears to change at will.

I am also exceedingly impressed with the performer in this video (my apologies as I do not know the name of Jamiroquai's lead singer). While his dance steps are rather simplistic, I think that's very skilled that he was able to do even those kind of steps on a moving floor like that without tripping or appearing to lose his balance. Also, alot of those scenes seem to have been done in one take (with few cuts), which again recalls the days of the greats like Fred Astaire and Gene Kelly who also would do dance numbers in very few takes, which is exceedingly difficult to do without making a mistake.

I tip my hat to Jamiroquai for this very entertaining video. (I want that hat from the video too...it's quite spiffy). :D

Couldn't have agreed with your more as I love Gene Kelly in "Singing in the Rain." In fact I remember on rainy day I actually did the entire dance (with singing) sequence outside with my umbrella spontaneously all for everyone outside to see...true story.

But yes this can be considered "The Royal Wedding" for the 21st century, that was the movie in which Fred Astaire dance all over the walls as you mentioned before.

First off the person dancing in the video is Jamiroquai himself as he did all of those wonderful dance moves which the fanboy in me has copied and can mimic at will. Though one can see the strong parallel this has to CL. Now if Odd decides to make his next music video with a moving floor, we'll just have to wait and see.

Great vid G-Force, lovin it! :) The lyrics really seem to have CL relevance as well, so a doubly neat find! :thumbs up:

Well Odd has the availible resource for just such a video - Carthage! :) Virtualise direct to Lyoko in Human form, keep Yumi and Ulrich close as bodyguards, film it with Aelita's 'visual uplink' ability - badabingbadaboom, one neat music video that Odd can pass of as being in a CGI environment! :D

Note to self, pressure Moonscoop to make just such a video as a bonus feature for the DVDs.

G-Force - Thanks for posting the music video! Haha, I would LOVE to see Odd do his next music video with a moving floor (with the spiffy hat, of course! ^^).

Whoa, that was a confusing video. It was kinda funny how the guy's mouth wasn't exactly in sync with the words of the music. :*D

Jamiroquai? Ackkk...that was my nickname since I was this size of my brother's shoe. I loved hats, and now I think all the ones my mom thinks are nice are hideous.

I always liked looking at the pictures in GK's credits. (the picture of Yumi angrily chasing Ulrich with a pillow is a potential favourite. ^^;) But I haven't seen that video for a looong time...Jam's videos are always the bomb.

Jamiroquai... one of the best bands... EVER!!

Americans and many people have been exposed to Jamiroquai WAY BEFORE CL existed. Talking about 1994-1996.

I've listened to Love Foolosophy way before I even knew about CL's existence. And I felt totally dissapointed when "Canned Heat" appeared in ND. But Canned Heat was the first release from Synkronized, the album that came out after Travelling Without Moving, so Jamiroquai was already famous.

Napoleon Dynamite seems to be a piece of s**t, anyways. And it never arrived to Peru, but from what I've heard about it, it was crap.

If you find out who did this video, then watch other videos he made... they even rock more... especially the one involving a dude getting hit several times by a car... can't remember if that was a Radiohead video, though.

Jamiroquai isn't a he. It's a brit-pop band.

That basically sums it up... Napoleon Dynamite had no plotline whatsoever, people went around quoting it for ages (they still do), and I couldn't even sit through the whole movie because it was so boring.

Sorry for the off-topicness... Anyway, back on topic.

In the "Virtual Insanity" video, isn't the stuff on the floor at the end blood? I might just be seeing things, but it really looked like blood to me.

It's Jason Kay, aka Jay Kay who does the dance, not the entire band.

Mew, I am totally surprised that you describe the Virtual Insanity video like if you saw it for the first time.

Jonathan Glazer did the video. The videos he has done rock... a lot.

Truth be told, that is the first time I saw it. ^^; I've heard the song before, but I had never seen the video. I sure am glad I got a chance too. :D Thanks again, G-Force!

Indeed! That video rocks! *highfives*

Seriously? OMG... you're not kidding, aren't you? :P That video is so old... yet it still rocks. Although, many of the CL fans were too little when Jamiroquai began being famous, but you're an adult, Mew. You surprised me.

XD Ah, but I only first heard of Jamiroquai from watching CL. *sweatdrops* Plus, I don't have as much access to videos as I do to music. ^_^

You never watched that channel called MTV or any other music channel of the sort? :umm:

I got an idea for a Jamiroquai-CL thread... but it might be a tad bit offensive.
