Live action shows redone as anime

Postby SamBlob » Thu Aug 04, 2005 7:05 am

Which live action shows would you like to see redone as anime?

M*A*S*H comes to mind, especially if it was closer to the original novel. I'd love to see the Swampmen shooting out Shaking Sammy's tyres...

Yojinbo by Kurosawa, as stated in my dA journal. Based on the story Red Desert by Dashiell Hammett, it was remade as Per un pugno di dolari ("Fistful of Dollars") by Sergio Leone and as Last Man Standing by Walter Hill.

The Good, The Bad and The Ugly (forgot the original Italian name) by Sergio Leone

Actually, spaghetti westerns seem like good material for anime, comparable with samurai stories; maybe a Tarantino script as an anime? Hmm...

Oh, very much so! Airwolf, too! (the original, where Stringfellow Hawke keeps and operates Airwolf in return for The Company's co-operation in finding Sinjin...)

Harry Potter!!! Okay...yeah, that's a book, I know, but it has movies now too. ^_^ I really would love to see it become an animated series! The Anime style would probably really fit well with it too. :D

*high-fives back* =)

You know, it's actually not impossible for a Harry Potter anime to be made a reality. The HP series is -extremely- popular in Japan. I just hope that it IS the Japanese who get licesne to it instead of some idiot in America who won't do as good of a job.. =\

Let's hope the WB agrees to such idea. I would had liked to see for once and for all the Coyote murdering the RoadRunner. But the WB didn't accepted $17 million for such project. But the HP anime could work. After all, the HP cast's problems are aging and the possibility of dying.

That's because they were aware of the thousands of RoadRunner fans (and the further thousands of Plymouth RoadRunner fans) who would beat them senseless if that happened...

The possibility of dying... you mean like Richard Harris dying and being replaced by Michael Gambon (from the A&E mini-series Longitude)?

We probably wouldn't even need WB's "OK". They just own the movie licensing rights for the US. J,K. Rowling, the author of the HP books, still holds almost all the cards. If she wanted to have it made into a cartoon, she could likely do it very easily (and who would say "no" to a franchise like Harry Potter?). The trouble is...who would do the voices? ^_^

Yes. George Lucas was really lucky that Mark Hammil didn't die at the end of the 70's by a car accident, or that none of his cast died before certain episode or during the filming. Especially with the actors of C-3P0, R2-D2, Palpatine (the same actor from Return of the Jedi played Palpatine on the last three episodes), Yoda... wow, it's more than a decade between Return Of The Jedi and The Phantom Menace... remarkable that all of them survived for it...

I know it wouldn't be that cool in actual practice but I would like to see a CSI anime. If not then Who's Line is it Anyway for the heck of it.

A CSI anime would be cool; a CSI manga would probably be even better. Grissom as an anime/manga character could be even more obscure than he is in the TV series. (BTW, how many people get the joke/tribute about Gil Grissom's name?)

G-Force wrote: If not then Who's Line is it Anyway for the heck of it.

Now that would *not* work. What carries Who's Line is it Anyway? is the ingenuity and spontaneity of the actors and the interaction of the audience, which is not going to happen with something that takes months (years?) to prepare.

*nods* the manga idea sounds better, since it would allow for more impressive crime scenes, given the fact that in most anime series he details are usually toned down for obvious reasons (budget).

ER, maybe (but not a good idea, I guess)... but Dawson's Creek as anime? Heck no...

UBOS? What's that? Or what's that short for?

Speaking of crime manga (and sorry for the mild off-topicness), but I recently just saw in a bookstore Nancy Drew mysteries...as MANGA. Quite the interesting concept... :)

Yeah! They're pretty neat looking. From what I could tell they had atl least 3 volumes out already. The stories look really good and the capturing of the Manga style has been done really well too. Most awesome! ^_^
