Danny Elfman voiced "The Clown with the Tear-Away Face" exclusively and was also Jack's singing voice. :)

And agreed. The music is phenomenal.

Thanks. :)

Well... Elfman is guaranteed good music.

:D Indeed! ^.^

I disagree completely there though. ^^; Scarier does not necessarily make something better, nor does up-ing it's rating, especially in the case of NMBC. NMBC is dark enough in it's own right. Tim Burton tends to go for the unusual scare as opposed the the "violent, blood and gore" scare. He also seems to have an interest in promoting the idea that the scary looking may not be so scary on the inside. Just look at the movie "Edward Scissorhands". This guy is frightening looking...but he's not a bad person really. Making NMBC violent and gory would have only resulted in the loss of the bigger picture of things as well as what the movie was really about which is "be true to oneself", I feel. :)

I said somehow... and we all have different views... I said a "bit", not "let's make the movie completely gorey"... as for "Edward Scissorhands"... it had something that made it better than NMBC... can't remember what that is... I always thought that Jack could have been a tad bit more scarier than what he was shown on the movie.

Gore would have been rather hard to portray in a stop-motion animation feature though. One would either have to CG it in (and possibly make it look "unreal" in doing so), or painstakingly animate it.

Either way though, I think Jack comes off as less scary, because he expresses that he's tired of scaring others in the film. Making him more scary would sort of confuse that, in a way, at least in my opinion. He was pretty scary for me anyway the first time I watched this (pokes her first post on this thread). I still have a fear of human skeletons, actually. ^^;

RoDrInCuBuS wrote:Hmm... Sweeden ratings for that movie was 11+... maybe there could have been a country where it reached PG-13 or almost close enough to it.

That was likely because of the "Christmas Present" scenes. Pulling a shrunken head out of a lovely Christmas present is kind of a vivid image for a child. ^^; Plus...some of the character designs are rather creepy. The "Corpse Child" is one of those that I would figure in particular. This movie definitely has it's infinitely creepy moments and characters. ^^

Ah, but as you said, we all have different views. :D I haven't seen Donnie Darko yet (I'm not even exactly sure what it's about), but NMBC definitely ranks on my list as one of the best movies ever for me. ^^

Danny Elfman played Jack (singing), Clown w/ the tearaway face, and Barrel. Actually, TNBC was darker at one point and Disney wouldn't except it. DANNY ELFMAN IS DA BOMB!!!! :music: (listening to soundtrack)

About Elfman... if it wasn't for him (I gotta say I saw a bit more than the second half of the movie), the movie would have been just regularly good. His music took that movie to another level, which made people like Tom Bone and G-Force fall in love with it.

*thinks about movies with soundtrack from Elfman* Beetlejuice vs Jack... :P The first guy is disgusting (but I used to like the animated show a lot), Jack isn't that scary, unless portrayed in real life... well...

I remember that head from the X-mas present box... kinda funny... but it can scare a little kid, indeed. Then again, it's a movie that evereyone can watch and probably end up enjoying it or disliking it.

Donnie Darko... well, the genres comprending that movie goes among Drama/Mystery/Sci-Fi and Thriller. Darko (performed by Jake Gyllenhaal) is a disturbed adolescent from a semi-functional upper-middle-class family. The whole movie becomes really awesome after he survived a jet engine crashing near his bedroom and by meeting Frank, the demonic bunny he can only see and told him about the world ending in a certain time. I wouldn't like to spoil that movie... I'd recomend you to watch it. It's pretty well portrayed... oh, it's rated PG-13 and even R in some countries (like Spain).

Disney... no wonder it didn't seem that scary enough. But it was a very good movie, indeed. Elfman rocks, though.

DANNY ELFMAN IS MY GOD. ...sorry, that needed to be said.

I can't remember this movie scaring me as a kid... in fact, I remember getting really sad when I lost my tape. I loved this movie to death. Still do, in fact.

I think the only thing that could have improved it were it being longer (this way, we could slow down, get a better look at the freaking *awesome* side characters and Sally and Jack's relationship).

Plus...some of the character designs are rather creepy.

I used to find the creature under the stairs kind of creepy looking, but now hes mah brudduh frum anudduh mudduh! :D

Edit 1 I just watched TNBC with commentary by Director Henry Selick and some other dude who does the animation and I learned some pretty cool crap. If anyone has on DVD, watch it w/ the commentary.

Tim Burton: What did you learn from watching the commentary
Me: I learned that Spiral Hill and the LS&B bathtub were not puppets, but mechanical.
Tim Burton: A+
Me (Homer Simpson Style): Whoo-hoo!

Edit 2 I'll put up a link to the original script tomorrow...until then

TNBC was a very good musical IMO. Kudos to Tim Burton and most of all to Danny Elfman, I admire his compositions.

Tom Bone at the Movies

Postby Tom Bone » Sat Oct 21, 2006 10:04 am

Tom Bone here! I'm here to explain stuff about the 3D movie and whatnot. First of all, I wore my Jack Skellington costume to the movies an I got a lot of the stares. Anywho, here's my review!

The Glasses 8/10: It was much better to wear these cool sunglasses-look-alike instead of those damn red and blue things. :D

3D effects 10/10: It was amazing! It's like you're really there in Halloween Town! ;) Contrary to popular belief, not only a few scenes were in 3D, it was the whole movie! There was a narrative before the movie with one of the Jack in the boxes Clown made in the middle of a graveyard. The narrator says: "Put on your glasses, the Pumpkin King beckons, Disney Digital 3D will start in 3 seconds..." Smokey numbers popped out at you. and when it reached zero, a sinister looking pumpkin bursts out and begins laughing at the audience.

Audience 10/10: As expected on opening night, the audience was huge, most of them wearing something Jack related (I of course looked the coolest in my costume. :thumbs up: ).

Tom's Advice: Some of the best 3D effects scenes were Oogie's Song, "And they call him Sandy Claws," the vortex to Christmas Town, and the snow in the Finale. Go see it today!
