Ludlum's O.K., but he pales in comparison to John LeCarre and Frederick Forsythe.

My favourite Ludlum was The Matarese Circle.

I thought The Hunt For Red October and Red Storm Rising were terrific. Then I read The Patriot Game. I have never read another Tom Clancy novel and I probably never will. Such utter tripe that was!

I just finished 1984 a couple of days ago. Quite a bit of it went over my head, but I got the main message of the book. Pretty depressing, yes, but it was still a good book.

Reminds me that I was reading last month a Spike comic book via Internet... that link I saw it at tv.com, though.

Mmm... I'm addicted to Francine Pascal's "Fearless" books. They're like X-men. Only really short, fast-paced, and with only one mutant chick. I must've read the first ten books in the series three times.

As I child, I loved the "William" stories by Richmal Crompton. I thought they were hilarious.

As an adult, I re-read the "William" stories and realized that half the jokes in the stories when straight over my head when I read them first! I would recommend "William" stories to readers of all ages.

More than James Bond, more than Commando comics, more than anything I have read or seen of the Battle of Britain, more than the writings of George Orwell, more than any other English fiction, artwork or institution, "William" books made me an Anglophile, nostalgic for a time and place in which I have never lived.

NO!!! Dear GOD no! Don't listen to him!!

Ugh, I remember when they forced us to read Watership Down in 7th grade.. it was horrible. It was incredulously BORING and everyone hated it and it seriously made me stop being able to look at a bunny without regurgitating for a month.

We just read Animal Farm.. it was ok and interesting, just.. not -that- interesting. Only read it if you're into farm animals who secretly represent political satire.

I just said "Definately, it was somebody from USA" because most of the LF members are from that country. So it was a general assumption without intentions of offending anyone. But my question is still unsolved. Who voted for the last alternative?

I, OTOH, read Watership Down after it had been recommended to me by two other people, who I should really thank. It was well thought out and very insightful. It is a great allegory of primitive, tribal life, and the warren amidst the traps, where Strawberry came from, makes one wonder if civilization is really all it's supposed to be.

Yeah, it's probably not all that. It's only the greatest allegorical novel in the English language since Gulliver's Travels by Jonothan Swift.

And while I'm making recommendations, I would also recommend Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. It's a little different from the movie The Secret of NIMH, especially in the treatment of Jenner, Justin and Nicodemus.

I picked fantasy. Although one of my top favorites isn't really fantasy.
My favs, in no particular order:
Harry Potter by J.K. Rowling
Axis trilogy by Sara Douglass
Lord of the Rings by J.R.R. Tolkien
Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury
Count of Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy by Douglas Adams
That's all I can think of for right now.

I like fiction that has a good share of comedy, or deals with social issues. I don't read a book unless I know it'll be worth my time, but I love reading (and dissecting) books. That said, I don't have a favorite, but Stephen King can go take a leap for all I care. Ugh.

Dolores Claiborne or The Green Mile might change your mind about King... a little...

The Girl who Loved Tom Gordon is good if you don't like his books, too. It's rather atypical and very good... not really scary, IIRC.

Raven's Point is one of the better books I've read lately. Short, though.

Code Lyoko has a book?

Most of the time, people ask me for advice on books. Someone will ask me if I read a book and then ask me my opinion on it. And if I see someone with a book that I have already read in their hands, I'll be like "Hey, that's a good one. Read it." Or "Oh that book was really boring I didn't enjoy it that much"

But I have SO few favorite books that when I tell someone what my favorite book is, they will most likely want to read it. I have probably spent like a sixth of my life reading.

I am a fan of the corny kind of books. The ones with all the rich people. Where everyone talks about how rich they are, they have dolce and gabanna, prada, coach, donney and bourke, gucci, chanel, you get the picture. And the main character of the book is a stuck up b*tch and just screws everyone up. That's soooo funny to read. I love it.
