Honestly, it doesn't make a difference to me. But why did Rowling wait 'till now to tell us? After never even hinting at it, what's the point? That's like George Lucas telling everyone that Han Solo was gay after Episode Three was over. "Um.. Okay then. Thanks for clearing that up, George. Cause yanno, we'd always wondered."

I know Han isn't gay. I was simply making an analogy to make a point of how absurd it is that Rowling would even bother to tell us that Dumbly is gay after all this time.

I found it startling to learn old Dumbledore was gay... but after about ten seconds, I no longer cared. It's good that there is finally a very positive gay role model out there, because it will promote equality among people of different sexual orientations as a whole and teach children that gay people can be just as good or evil as straight people, and that a different orientation is no reason to stay away from someone. Dumbledore was my favorite character in the series from book one (and he delivered monumentally when he said that thing about "just because it's just going on in your head doesn't mean it's not real) and that didn't change after I heard the news.

...just imagine the costumes at San Francisco's next parade, though.
